Hello, I'm pretty new to the server (MC multiplayer in general) and slowly start to feel homely here. :)

However I got some questions concerning mining&Co.

I wanted to get some wool for a bed and decorations and hence needed shears. Shears need Iron so I went mining somewhere in the middle of nowhere on fendarfell. I found some tiny deposits of coal but after digging up half a castle worth of stone I still haven't got not a single Iron bar. (I did take care to dig below layer 64) Meanwhile after some serious excavating work I got a little bit of it. Just enough to craft myself the most important stuff.
Now I've just seen peeps in chat who are selling stacks of diamond or emerald BLOCKS. :|

Is there something to mining that I've missed out? Like do certain continents have ressources in abundance while others are more flora & fauna focused? Or did I just have really bad luck?

That gets me wondering: If the old members of the server who play here since months, collected so many diamonds and stuff, can I even find some myself? Do the maps reset somehow? Or does the underground gets more and more barren like a field that never sees crop rotation? :P

I hope I will be able to craft an Iron sword soon...

Fender has no caves, the best place for amazing caves and a lot of resources would be New Ceardia or the nether gate in the noble park in regalia. The nether world is a specially crafted resource world.

You can purchase most of these materials in t: (trade) chat or buy them at the market for a fairly low price :)

Ithania has a really good resource rate, although don't expect to much (if any) gold.
Fenderfall may have no caves, but it is full of resources to be mined and used. New Ceardia is also good, though I find less resources there than Ithania or Fenderfall.
This is based off of my own experiences, and I will admit that you may have different results.

First of all, welcome to MassiveCraft(party),
all continents (Itharia, Fendarfell, New Ceardia, Ellador, Daendroc) are full of ressources. I bet you did just have bad luck.
My suggestion for you is: Mine at layer 11-12, there's a higher chance to gain valuable minerals, such as coal, iron, gold, emerald and diamonds. You have to spend a lot of time to gather ores/ingots, though|-).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. 8-)

Heyo o/

Thanks for all the answers! I went way down to layer 10-20 and just started digging randomly and actually found some more ores. I guess I was just mining in a place where maybe someone before me collected already everything or just bad luck. Also got some Iron ingots from Zombies. :P

Will look into the other continents soon too to check out the caves. But I bet most f the caves are already explored and all the shiney stuff taken.

PS: During my digging I found an unprotected chest from a player that hasn't logged on for over 6 Month now. Can I take the 10 or so Iron from it or does that count as griefing?

Nope. If he's been inactive for 6 months, you can take it all.
