The Regalian Sewers have been absent from even Regaliav4 for a very long time, because of community de-sychronization. In the past, in the oldest Regalia, a sewer existed underneath the streets that had a single entrance. This allowed for fluid movement between the two layers of the city, but often also resulted in "mineman running" without emoting and hiding in the sewers, knowing that guards would not follow. Our second implementation saw the Sewers placed on a different Minecraft world to limit the pressure of FPS performance in Regaliav4. The problem with segregating the community like we did, was that a third of the community never really interacted with the others, and that population based tended to disappear into the sewers and simply sever the active community in half. There was also only one sewer entrance that truly ended up being used, so it felt more like an OOC exile of slum rats, than an actual gameplay feature.

With the implementation of V5, we intended to have sewers built that are actually inside the map and accessible from 10+ locations across the city. 1 exists in the Imperial Isle, some exist in New Town and many exist in Old Town. These lead to a sprawl of tunnels under the city, some more sprawling than others (some look quite long and boring in fact), and some have special travel means (like a rail cart that can be used by players). The Sewers are not intended to be lived in, but to operate like gang turf and a safety zone for those who don't want to be subject to the law enforcement of the ground floor. There's a couple of things to be said for the Sewers, so let's get to it:

  • The Sewers are released Bare Bones. This means without decoration or special features. It is purely a network of tunnels. In the course of the following weeks, the World staff will make the Sewers more interesting to look at, and add more unique roleplay hot spots which can be found in the tunnels. It's a work in progress essentially, but we considered the early release necessary for gang roleplay.
  • The Sewers come with claimable Cisterns. These Cisterns allow a gang or syndicate to claim an area of the Sewers for a base of operations for the gang or whatever organization. The scope of this claiming capacity is limited to "groups which can feasibly operate in the sewers, and are feasibly able to exert influence in the sewers by using manpower to claim a turf". This is a bit of a flexible arrangement that allows gangs, silven groups, clandestine organizations, some noble houses and other such groups to claim these cisterns, if the Crime managers feel that these groups have enough manpower to reasonable secure these areas against NPC vampires/mutants and other filth. Groups wishing to claim a cistern should mark the coordinates, and send these to Percuriam, asking him to perform a viability check. Percuriam will then discuss with the other Crime Managers whether the group in question could feasibly capture a cistern for themselves, and if allowed, will grant access to the cistern region to the players who
  • There are no Houses in the Sewers, and there will be none. This is intentional. The Sewers are dangerous, and should really be used for gang turf or conflict roleplay. We also don't want to over saturate the city with rentals and push down the market price of real estate.
  • Guards are still not permitted in the Sewers, but keep in mind there may be vigilante organizations that can perform raids on the sewers even if the guards will not officially support them. Running into the sewers when committing a crime does not guarantee safety, and one should always invest in the capacity to have a stronghold in the sewers.
  • The Sewers currently lack hotspots like random fighting pits or Kathar void Temples, but they are going to be built in the course of the following weeks while the World Staff go wild with the sewers. There are even long term plans to add additional layers of Elven/Meraic Sewers in the long term.
So, for now, the Sewers offer their primary function: A less obvious means to move around the city. They are a work in progress, and will become prettier and more fun to hang around in in the coming weeks.

Sounds exciting! Cant wait to see what kind of hotspot arrangements get put in place. If theres even half as much care put into their placement as the surface got its going to be a huge step up from Sewers 1 and still a step up from Sewers 2.

Forgot to post a simple map of the Sewers:
