Hi all,

with all the comments floating around in the forum about how PvP is dying and how RP is too strict, I got curious what types of players are mainly active in Massivecraft.
Please simply click what applies to you, thanks!

:3 Sephi

You forgot the option of "All and then some". Besides being somewhat inactive, I generally build & chat rather than things as pesky as roleplay or pvp.

Lmfao this almost exactly describes me.. Even down to the occasional inactivity XD

Some building, buying and selling Regalian Houses (Not nearly as much anymore), exploring/looting abandoned fac ruins, and chatting with friends.

I do PvP on other servers like a Prison and Hunger Games server I play on, and I've played major roles in RP in ESO (Say what you want about the game, but the RP community is amazing there.) .

But Massive tends to be my "Chill" spot. Always a place to come, relax, enjoy the community and explore the beautiful worlds they've created. Don't really RP, dont really PVP but I consider it my "Home" server and always find myself having a great time.

Lol im actually both sad and happy pvp is dying . Mainly when pvp die , I can raid all dem rp people lol but when pvp is lively I got buisness around my castle base

Conculsion of this: RPers and PvPers seem pretty well balanced at this point and if PvP is really dying, it doesn't show in numbers yet.

Thanks for participation!

you're kidding right? Numbers don't mean anything.
SEEM

You also have to bear in mind that this survey is already about a week old. Things could have changed within the last few days, but to see that, you would have to make a new poll. Thus my wording: Numbers don't show it YET.

And never blame numbers. Numbers never lie. Also : don't forget that we just have a small sample here of the people logging onto the server every day, but this is still the best I can do as a normal user to draw a picture of the situation. I found the outcome very interesting.

Can't really say it's possible to call the numbers balanced when theres 10 votes for PvP and 12 for rp on a server with thousands of players.

Sure, numbers don't lie BUT they can be decieving.

Well I thought the gap would be far wider :)

You also can't take this sample as overall statement, but I didn't want to make a server review. Therefore a lot more samples would be necessary and other factors would have to be considered too. So just to point that out once more: This thread here simply draws a small picture of which types of players are out there and is NOT - in any means - a proper server review that tells us exactly what's going on at this very minute...

Maybe, but this poll might as well measure how many people of each playstyle are on the forums and reading this thread

Aye that's why it's a sample. And that's why I wrote you would have to consider other factors for a proper server playerbase-review.

PvP is dead.

The server is 95% RP, with the 5% of PvP only due to the fact that PvP factions get so bored that allies have to enemy each other just to get a little action.

Thats really sad but true .
I had to taunt people repeatedly in pvp chat and repeating the sentence "im the world best pvper" to make people angry and wanting to raid me . Building those traps of mine were literally useless with no one wanting to raid me

Pvp is dying
Rp is blooming
Either way It doesn't matter, both don't have huge influences over each other. If Rpers are going to Rp then thats completly fine. If Pvpers are going to Pvp, then again thats fine. Both sides tend to horde of each others with their facts such as Rpers criticizing Pvpers for their lack of intelligence and of course the Pvpers criticizing Rpers for their lack of skill. Personally I think that Pvpers should learn to accept the rules that were made by Rpers, and Rpers should accept that us Pvpers are foul mouthed. Both sides won't accept each other and never will. However there are some similarities that Pvpers and Rpers have in common, for example Pvpers will tend to harrass noob pvpers, and Rpers will intend to insult and shoo people who are bad at roleplay (for example god Rpers). YOU in the otherhand is in a certain fraction of the community called "Trolls", and your very bad at it...

Oh my lord , and u dint state the fact that pvpers raid rpers causes rpers to hate pvpers . And im a pvper and restoner not troll gosh .

Pvpers usually raid Pvpers... Majority of decent and good pvpers raid other pvpers.
Man u dont know what majority is , many pvpers are raiding rpers and thats one of the reasons rpers complain . personally i dont raid , i only build at my own faction and darkroom for cash .

The numbers are actually a bit more complex than most simplistic analyses imply.

The average prime time population between worlds is about 50%-50% between Regalia and the survival worlds. This implies the relation is 50% Roleplay, 50 Survival.

The average prime time spending spent on PVP in survival worlds is maybe like 10 or 5? so probably around 20 to 10%. Which sort of means the other 80 to 90 is not PVP'ing, but unlikely all roleplayers. It's kind of silly to say all people who don't PVP are automatically roleplayers, as Mecharic points out above.

To say PVP is dying and RP is blooming is only half a truth. Contrary to beliefs, the "hardcore PVP core" of MassiveCraft grows at a fairly stagnant rate, where-as the other "communities" literally explode out of nowhere. Strict Rp wasn't even a thing before Regalia came around, and that has taken off so well since its inception that it is almost half the server now at any given time. The faction survivalists are also still growing, largely because that section cannibalizes from the other communities. Roleplayers haven't replaced anyone. No core PVP'er suddenly switched over to RP. They simply came out of nowhere and didn't impede on any other group.

At the end of the day though, it's silly to make number predictions because you shouldn't try to label people : D . Others will simply flock to such a thread to use it as a platform to spread their own beliefs and opinions, no matter if they are wrong or right.

And here go the other factors I was mentioning earlier.

That's something where numbers are really not enough. I dare to say that the numbers could maybe capture the percentage of people pvping but not who is actually doing so. I can just speak about things I observed in my own faction and in the ally chats, but it feels like a lot of old members of the rather PVP-focused community are leaving/pausing and being replaced by new people with low stats who are in no means worthy opponents for the long term members (because it takes time to learn techniques and build up the McMMO stats). If we develop that thought further, I would say that new pvp-focused players and RP-focused players are in most cases both not able to defeat a long term hard core PVPer, which results again in non satisfying fights and leads to boredom of the latter, causing them to leave/pause or - in some cases - start to show interest in RP.

Roleplayers haven't replaced anyone. No core PVP'er suddenly switched over to RP.
I have to say here that it might doesn't show in Regalia, but I know quite a few people who are deemed to be PVP-only, who asked me how one would start to RP (not that I know so far), simply because of the fact that there are less and less satisfying fights, probably also due to the observation mentioned above. They might haven't shown up in Regalia yet, but the interest is/was definitely there.

They simply came out of nowhere and didn't impede on any other group.
I think that the questions "why, how and where from" go beyond the simple try to pin down what people are currently doing on the server. Nonetheless very interesting questions.

At the end of the day though, it's silly to make number predictions because you shouldn't try to label people : D . Others will simply flock to such a thread to use it as a platform to spread their own beliefs and opinions, no matter if they are wrong or right.
This thread was never meant to be a prediction. It was meant to capture (a PART of) what's actually really going on on the server and how our community spends their time. I admit I forgot to add "questing" as an option to make it complete. I know we shouldn't just divide people into PVP and RP or PVP and non PVP, thus the poll also included the neither nor (=Survival) and the "both" option. I also don't mind other people spreading their beliefs (because I think there is no right or wrong between the two extremes and it can be interesting to learn the view of others) - as long as it doesn't go up in flaming each other and stays topic related.

I'd like to remind some of the people on the comments here that this is only a sample to someones curiosity to what people are "into" and prefer. In NO way has Sephite imposed this to be a true reading of the rates or "numbers" of massives players. Even if it was it doesnt matter to whom or who hasn't voted and who plays on what worlds. Have you ever read the small print on adverts for new products? they testify ratings to the viewers which can be based off of 10 to 100's of people, they don't go round asking everyone who has bought it to give there rating on it. So implying that Sephite is trying to do this is greatly and ignorantly misunderstood.

Also Monmarty i find your comment quite rude (not to try and be rude myself here but...). To technically try and claim that "labeling" someone is bad is quite profound when all massive technically does is label. I mean honestly, what is PVP chat for again? sure anyone can post in there...but wouldn't it be better to call it "chat for people who want to flame and fight each other"? Ya'know so people aren't labeled as being PVP'ers if they chat in that chat. Or how about call the tp for Regalia "People who might want to role-play"? instead of just "Role-play". So hopefully my point here has been made...please do tell me if it hasn't.

(Sorry if anyone finds this to be rude or hurtful)
Love & Peace, Charlie

Whoa chill. I made a joke to introduce the fact that people will seize on this thread to propaganda their own agenda as opposed to having a meaningful debate. I've always had a strong disdain for forum polls because they reach less than 2% of the server's population.

Besides which, Massive doesn't label. Your point falls in the water when you consider that PVP chat is for "PVP related activities". If we had a whole plugin dedicated to segregating players from each other based on play style I'd agree, but that's a fallacy if I'd seen one.

And in Mag all we do is fight Wolves.

This actually made me notice a serious problem the community has... The ego.

I've seen multiple PvP facs try to tag along on the large battles but since they aren't as skilled or experience so they die a lot. Then either Mag or Wolves depending on who's ally just forces them to leave.

Now I get it I really do it sucks taking a loss but don't we all agree we want a huge community with multiple enemies to target not just one? How do we ever expect that to happen if we shun all the newer folks from the battlefield?

I think for the time being we should all agree to put the egos aside and do what's best for the community, be inclusionary not exclusionary.

I think if we could just forget about the scoreboard for just one month and let everyone who wishes to be involved get there shot we'd see a huge rise in the community.

*edit*

To further illustrate my point with an example I was about ready to give up on Massive 'til I joined back up with Mag and then pulled a complete 180. I'm having a blast again and I've been reinvigorated. Some times all it takes to keep a person around is that feeling of inclusion. People want to feel like they belong so make them feel like they do and they will stay.

The probably isn't us, entry into PvP is too complicated currently and it's too hard to get into it with traits, god gear and especially McMMO.

Why would people bother spending hours of grinding McMMO to join the 10? at most 15, people who PvP regularly.
