It would be a sunny day on the Great Middle Sea as Christopher Black and his Carrack sailed due east towards Farah'deen, their bounty, a Qadir merchant vessel ripe like a grape vine in spring for the picking. They flew a stolen flag of Qadiriyye, one that would allow them to approach merchant vessels without suspicious. Accompanying Chris was Damian Steere, a seasoned swordsman, Chalden, the hulking Tigran, Kamal Vilamorte, the Qadir Wind Mage, and Rerik Ulster, the weak Orc with an uncanny skill at blowing things up. Kamal pushed their ship to speeds unseen by other Regalian vessels, right up to a Qadir merchant's brig. The Kapudan of this boat was not a bright one, and so they assumed the Black Carrack to be one of the Qadiriyye, apart of some sort of legal inspection. He was mistaken.

Christopher spotted a good twenty individuals aboard this ship as he gathered his men together. He had one of his crewmen raise the flag of his house as the Carrack approached, and upon realizing the Kapudan's mistake, the Qadir surrendered. Christopher himself manned one of the several rowboats the crew took to cross the gap between the ships, fifteen men in all. Unfortunately, the boarding party of the Carrack faced relative hostility upon climbing aboard. It seemed the Qadir were in fact not prepared to surrender their goods, and so battle ensued.

Christopher led the charge, but before he could swing his cutlass at anyone, a Qadir Wind mage of the merchant vessel knocked a barrel of fish off a pile, and straight under Christopher's legs, breaking them upon impact. Enraged, his loyal crew charged in. Damian Steele charged straight in, killing the Wind mage as well as one other Qadir. Kamal managed to knock several Qadir off balance with his magic, though he killed no one. Chalden defended Chris' collapsed body, though he was unable to do any real damage with his focus set on Chris. They had anticipated Rerik Ulster being able to blow up groups of Qadir at a time and save the day using a swivel cannon, but unbeknownst to them, the Orc was especially excited to blow something up, and had stuffed a little too much gunpowder down the barrel. The cannon blew up in his face.

The crew grew tired, and had to surrender while reinforcements gathered on the Carrack. Chris Black lay in a corner, while the Qadir tied Kamal and Damian together. Chalden never was "captured" since the Qadir had nothing big enough to hold him. They just tied him to a mast to slow him down and had two guards with sharpened stakes watch him at all times.

On the Carrack, a plan was brewing. The crew that remained turned their ship, and let the winds of the sea do their work as the bow of the Carrack rammed into the merchant vessel. Wood splintered as the Qadir lost their balance. Chalden escaped the rope, and freed Damian and Kamal. Chris Black was then carried out by his crew, who only escaped by jumping from one ship to another.
