FROM THE DESK OF THE MISTRESS OF THE HALLS
HER LADYSHIP, ROWENA VAN FRYSE, COUNTESS OF KAARTE
As mentioned in previous publications, dear reader, the position of Mistress of Halls swears a duty to the Crown -- to ensure its loyal peerage behaves with their status in mind, demonstrating respect and acknowledgement of their requirements. It is in turn the duty of the peerage to uphold these beliefs, and the trust his Imperial Holiness has so graciously given. This trust, dear reader, is what sets us apart as the upper class, the deciding factor in many matters. To forego His words and expectations is to forsake the very nature of our society.
It is with a heavy heart that the Mistress of Halls seeks to publicly condemn the ex-Jarl Godrun Nordhjem, previously Godrun Fjallslatter prior to his adoption by the Duchess-Elector, for fraternizing and indulging indecent behavior with a member of his staff, concealing the presence of an afflicted individual within his employ, and scorning the good Baroness Endheduanna Abansaddi in the process.
This is a repeated violation, witnessed just recently in regards to respecting the Master Servant relation. One urges the peerage to review the codex of court protocols, and to familiarize themselves to the best of their ability. To reiterate, for those that might be unaware of these directions:
Fraternization towards Servants or Commoners is strictly forbidden. Flirting, Fornication, Debauching and other interactions normally reserved with close relations are strictly forbidden towards Servants, as they interfere with the Master-Servant relation.
Mister Godrun, whilst engaged in courtship with the Baroness Abansaddi, found himself at the whims of his own desires. Humouring and indulging in the indecent attentions of one Valyria, a katharic crimson witch, currently in the employ of fold Nordjhem as both a house guard and employee of their forge. It begs the question as to the Baroness Revna av Jorrhildr's competence in maintaining fold Nordjhem's house staff, and to the Duchess-Elector Nordjhem's standards and involvement with the process.
Though fold Nordjhem has taken the necessary steps to expel the offender at hand from their flock, this does not undo nor make up for his crass and unadvisable actions. The Baroness Abansaddi's honour and image have suffered through this ordeal, and as with every adult adoption, the responsibility of one's crimes falls not only upon oneself, but to their family in kind.
To remedy their standing with the fold Abansaddi and the eyes of the peerage at large, the Mistress of Halls suggests the following course of action to be taken post haste.
- Offer a public apology to the fold Abansaddi for the mistreatment and misdeeds of the ex-Jarl.
- Allow a single-use of their navy, as promised in the courtship treaty published by the Duchess-Elector Nordjhem mid February of our current year.
- Aid in the capture and curing of the afflicted individual, providing resources where necessary.
- Remove Miss Valyria from the service of fold Nordjhem as a house guard. It is suggested to their guard captain, Baroness Revna av Jorrhildr, that she keep a watchful eye on those she employs.
The Mistress of Halls finds this an ample opportunity to remind, and to advise the peerage on matters of adoption. Whether for financial boon, procuring an heir, or indulging someone's desires, to take on a new member carries weight. One's better judgment must be used to determine whether the adoptee is indeed worthy of the possible strife, hardship, and weight of their new name. It is not something to be undertaken lightly. For where they once stood alone, they now stand hand in hand with whomever sought to share their surname. Responsibilities are shared -- as are consequences.
