==================================================================
Hello, and welcome to my Architecture blog. This will be updated daily during the next two weeks (Christmas break :D), and beyond that I'll update it when I have made decent progress. Enjoy!
==================================================================

=========== [ About Me ] ===========

My name is Mindarchy and when it comes to Minecraft I tend to dabble quite a bit in architecture. I specialize in nordic-related styles, but also terraforming landmasses, other medeival styles, and true dwarven architecture. I began building at a higher level around this time last year when I ran my own creative building server. Now I just build for the personal enjoyment, and to make my minecraft scenery look more beautiful.

The Kingdom of Feyborn
sHcf5kX.jpg

Information:

Style
: Nordic/Germanic
Inspiration: Damorn <3 (Made by @SaintsDemon)
Size: Upon completion I am estimating ~150x150 (100+ tall)
Type: Militaristic
Details: My idea for Feyborn is a city built on-top of a city that is built on-top of a city. Every house in the city will be connected through walkways or just by being built into one another. The lowest layer will be completely for defensive purposes; with 50+ cannons (Both semi-automatic and Fully Automatic), 10+ double layered portcullises that will act as checkpoints to hold and guard, and 4 entrances to the city that are synced to be able to all lock-down together.

Normal members of the city will live in the upper half of each house of the city. This will be limited to be accessed from the ground level where fights take place and will include housing, crafting and smelting facilities, shops, and everything else necessary for survival.

This city will be transferred into MassiveCraft when a new map is released. The reason for this is because:
1.) Any maps before New Ceardia are not new enough for me to find a reason to make a new city on them.
2.) New Ceardia and Fenderfell don't have FactionsRestore (Or else I'd consider them).
3.) Teled Methen is far too riddled with small 1 person factions and elven spires everywhere that take too long to take down.
4.) And probably my biggest reason: The build isn't finished yet. So no need to worry about land until it is done. Right now I'm just worrying about resources and constructing it in singleplayer.

Main Resources:
Oak Logs: 8 Double Chests / 10 Double Chests ::: 80%
Oak Planks: 1 Double Chest / 15 Double Chests ::: 7%
Oak Stairs: 1 Double Chest / 7 Double Chests ::: 15%
Brown Stained Clay: 5 / 5 Double Chests ::: 100%

Donations are always appreciated. If you donate a substantial amount of items, you can get a part of the city named after you such as "Mindarchy Hall":D.

=========== [ Future Projects ] ===========

Ideas for future projects:
- Airship City: I might begin constructing an airship city if I begin to get builders block on Feyborn.
- Dwarven Raiding Outposts: On every world I might design a well-structured abandoned Dwarven-style base to act as raiding outposts for the new Feyborn city.
=========== [ Want Architecture Help? ] ===========

I don't make video tutorials or anything of the sorts. However, if you want tips to add detail to your already created structure, then send me some "/mail" and I will check it out when I get online. Once I get you started you can try to build off of it and add the detail around your entire build. I won't help you build from scratch, though. You need to already have an attempt made at the design.

Regarding Commission:

I don't work for commission in regals or USD. The reason for this is because regals are useless to me. I used to earn upwards of $300 for my builds, and I could buy as many regals as I wanted if it came to that. However, I don't want to do that because I want to keep my MassiveCraft experience genuine. As a result, if you want me to make some large changes for you or completely redo something you can pay me in resources. I'll do just about anything for a double chest of oak logs, or possible some potion ingredients, or even armor and weapons. I know I could just buy those things with regals that you pay me, but I'm thrifty and I would just end up saving the money for no reason.

=========== [ Tips ] ===========

Here I'll just list some tips that I've discovered recently...
  • Make a palette before starting your build so you can easily grab blocks from the palette to use.
  • Make a story-line or lore to build your structure around. Is it a military empire? Farming village? Waterside trading city? Mining hamlet?

Hey Mindarchy, I would be happy to supply you with about 100 double chests of Spruce logs if you are willing to build a housing district for my faction.

Update #2 : Housing additions
I updated the bridge and added a lower area to it so it drapes over the city more.

I added a new building. This one is a mix of a bridge and a house. Based on the sheer size of it, I'm guessing this will become a bridge in the center with two large rooms on each side for 1 person to live in each. I tried a new style for the tip of the roof. It looks good from the side, but a little odd from the front. Any other opinions?

Critics are welcome. I'd rather have ideas now than when I'm almost done with the build.

Although I think this looks great, I think it's a bit too similar to the style of Damorn. Even though @SaintsDemon managed to create a masterpiece (if an unfinished one) it still has it's flaws, one of them being poor planning on how we should do the interiors of the smaller buildings.
I would recommend that you change it up a bit more(maybe just by changing a few block types), giving it a more personal touch. By doing this I think you would appreciate the build a lot more once you're done.

That said, I would very much like to see this when you're done. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, it means a lot :D.

I agree with you. I've been thinking about it and here are my ideas:
1. Add Hardened Granite to the base of the builds to give it more support and strength
2. Experiment with black windows on the base and orange windows on the upper half of the build to give more seperation
3. Add spruce slabs and stairs as trim since it matches the oak very well (I think this one will make a lot of differecne)
4. Finally, I might swap out the roof colors and experiment with stonebrick trim or something of that nature

Good ideas, I'll get on them. I knew I'd end up getting too familiar with his design, but now I'm just going to begin adding my own touch of customization behind it.

Update #3: I've been very busy lately but was able to sneak in a few hours this weekend to work on this part of the build. I've began combining components and I've decided to build things integrated with the city from here on out, rather than as separate modules. I think this will solve the space issue that Damorn has by creating the interiors as I go as-well, and in doing this I should be able to stay inspired to add more to it.

Next Projects:
Finish the clock tower and it's building
Work on the arena (I'm planning for it to be 32x16 as I've seen that to be optimal for PvP faction arenas)
Layout the rest of the city (I haven't shown a pic of the interior yet, but it's very defensively built and I'll need to plan out what I do with the rest of the space.

In the end this should look far different from damorn through the use of curves, circles, a different architect style, new blocks (Which I haven't had the time to add yet), and some other icing like a different biome.

1 pic only. Sorry, it's the pre-finals week.

Update #4: I took out the clock tower as it was looking rather odd in my mind. I also did some work removing a part of the wall and adding a building there. I began working on the inner part of the city, and even added the epic cannon defense in it.

I have not began construction in Massive yet (Not until Jorrhildr), but I have calculated a need for a massive amount of oak wood, logs, and stairs. If you want to donate meet me ingame, it would help a lot :D.

Update #5: I added a design on the front right building and began construction on the inside buildings in the city. I'm going to be modifying the building on the right since it's very flat (especially ingame), but I think it turned out nice. What do you guys think?

Update #6: I got this done right after update 5, but I felt it important enough to post. I started the roof of the back building and I'm starting to design the second "tier" to the city (Following the concept of houses ontop of houses). The second photo looks really amazing ingame and I can't wait to be pvping in the city. It will be absolutely amazing!

This is so much Damorn...

and you didn't even gave me credits :'(

In-fact I don't think my last post did you justice, so let me just explain myself a little more. So, basically, the style of Damorn and the style of Fey (Renaming from Feyborn) is very similiar. However, this was partly because the pallette that you used was already so well-thought out and the roofing style is so easy to duplicate across an entire city that up to this point I've had no reason to change it. However Just to clarify, I will be changing a lot of the design in the future. My next update (coming soon) already starts to begin this flare with some stripes of cobblestone on the otherwise wooden roofs. When this is finished, it will undoubtably look inspired from Damorn, however It won't look nearly as similiar as it does is right now and will look like it's own standalone city of Fey. In the end, I could decide to completely worldedit the brown clay to white or something, really the options are endless and construction has not begun yet on Massive so I'm still open to influence. The fact is, though, that I would never have begun this project (Or even any somewhat large build on MassiveCraft) without the experience of extreme awe that Damorn gave me the first time I was able to walk it's halls. So Saint, you will get proper credit, do not worry. You're the entire reason I'm building again in the first place.

Also "lore-wise" I feel this could be somewhat of an opportunity to intertwine lore. Maybe somewhat of "Sister Cities" built to defend and conquer the entirety of Aloria from two main outposts or something. I never copied any part block by block, and the WIP's can prove that. I just simply got the itch to build and needed a reference to bounce off of. Since Damorn is possibly selling for some like $150 or something, I said screw it to the idea of buying it and instead decided just to build my own wonder city.

My respect to you though SaintsDemon. I know very few people that can take an idea and build it in survival with such detail as you built Damorn.

Update #7: I got a lot of work done over the weekend. I added the top-most roof in finally and am planning to begin working on the walls now. I've realized that almost all the houses are facing the same direction, so for the next few photos I will be taking them from a side perspective (Which means I need to work on the side). My plan is to add a big tower (45x45) to the right side where you can see the top of the unfinished roof extending to. This will be the "War Tower" and a main highlight for the city. It will feature a 4-chunk warzone. I will have arenas stacked on-top of each other. The rooftop arena will be "The Fey Arena" with only access given to Fey's best fighters and closest allies. Below that will be "The Royal Arena" which will sport stands. This will be where pvp competitions and things of the sort will be held. Below that will be "The Training Grounds". This will feature trait builds and potions lining all around it, built for 1 on 1 tutorial and combat. And finally the lowliest arena will be an underground arena called "The Chamber" with access portals for other factions to train it it.

After the tower is complete, I will start adding side-facing buildings branching off of it and looping around to create the back of the castle as-well. I am loving this project so far and I think most of it is looking great. I will be going over a lot, as my style and experience has changed throughout this city's contraction as-well.

The inspiration from Damorn is... clear but I guess you explained that. The issue I have is that the colours are the same as Damorn's changing that would make it more unique in my opinion.

In my opinion. Right side looks odd compared to the left side, I think you could work that side a bit out, add a window on the roof or something, just to fill emptiness :)

This is really good :D If you want a dwarven faction, or become part of the Dwarven Council just say man :P
Thanks! I have a very nice faction at the moment, but if I ever get into roleplay I'll definately look into your Dwarven Council.

Okay, I will play around with some colors and things in Worldedit and post my results here.

Thank you, I love critics. I think that front window on the far right needs to be completely redone, it's far too detailed and repetitive. I think I could also add a tower over on that right side building (As the tall spires and towers with beacons in them are planned to be one of the defining features of the city), and that could spice things up a bit.
