How far did you guys get this weekend with establishing a plan for someone creating a a MassiveCraft Style Guide? I've been tinkering with the logo for sometime now but I don't want to double up if you guys have already been reworking it.

@desmonster
We have just begun general planning and brainstorming in regards to revamping MassiveCraft's image. We have a few people starting on some mock-ups for the logo, and we would love to see any examples of work you have done / are working on.

Thanks me ol' china plate.. my question was not whether or not the meeting had transpired (which, yes, was already apparent from the timer), rather my question was focused on whether or not a new logotype had already been arrived at. Cay has answered so we're all good, however, Shadow - thanks for your input ;)

Nice to hear you are interested.
Feel free to make an attempt at creating a new graphic profile.

You can find most of the info here:

Thanks Cay, I'll chip away at it. With so many collaborators I understand the need for a central 'authority' on its 'look' as your beautiful project grows and evolves.

Truly... an incongruous brand can reduce credibility as you forge ahead attempting to create the best Minecraft Server out there.

A style guide will have the collaborators singing from the same hymn sheet... this is true... but the introductory pages should make it clear that a style guide is a springboard for more ideas and exploration - not just a 'rule book'. As talented collaborators contribute the brand will evolve into something deep, multifaceted and beautiful.

All in all @MonMarty and those other contributors (sorry I've forgotten some of the BIG names here that should get mentions) they should be recognised for their huge contribution to the look of Massivecraft. Anyone compiling a Style Guide should really only be distilling the essence of what they have established, maybe fine tuning it and then evolving it a little. It will 'evolve' from there by attrition and perhaps the format should take that into account (ie - not a PDF from and InDesign doc)?

As for 'spreading the word' I believe a Youtube channel the likes of the Yogscast (obviously not to the same scale at first) with a clear vision of engaging content, scripted 'episodes' in half a dozen 'segments' would connect perfectly with the target audience and, providing that the content has enough 'wow' factor, would 'spread the word' most effectively for this particular target audience.

AdHoc clips made by 'fans' are great but without a considered planned format they are just incongruous jaw flapping. I'll be ruminating over this one for quite some time as a I believe it must be done right. If I get enough time I'll propose a plan. The players are a fantastic resource here - if we can channel their efforts into good 'viral worthy' content we could be on a winner.

Due to my frustrations with the noob erosion of Daendroc I've taken myself out of game for a while - hopefully this will give me more time to poke around in this project. If you don't see me around for a while don't stress - I'll be here, I'll be thinking about it, I'll just be very busy.
