    Personality and Abilities

    Personality Traits

    • Respectful: One of Marcus’ better traits is his respectful nature towards those who do not seek to harm or corrupt others. Still holding true to the conduct that he was told to so dearly protect, he refuses to lift his sword to any that are innocent of nature or not corrupt.
    • Protective: Something that should go without saying is that Marcus is a very protective person. Not so much to the point that he is overprotective but just enough that he is willing to put his life on the line for his honor and the people he swears to protect.
    • Incorruptible: An absolutely essential trait trait to Marcus is his ability to turn down any kind of bribe or offer to betray those he loves, greed is a foreign and unloved thing to Marcus. For him, a strong sense of honor and duty is the only thing that Marcus will ever fight for. This coming from his years in the School of Viridian, where he learned to cling tight to his code of conduct.
    • Familial: While not seeing many around often, Marcus holds a deep love for his family or those he considers close enough to be family. Often times this causing him to forget his code of conduct turning on those he sees as a threat to his loved ones. However he is generally able to regain control of himself long before he ever lashes out at anyone.
    • High-spirited: Marcus is often a generally optimistic person, even when the situation doesn’t call for it. This causing him to try and see the bright side even in a loosing fight and while this is good for himself it can cause his allies to become frustrated with him. Often causing them to turn their backs on him, leaving him to fight a battle on his own.
    • Stubborn: A more dangerous trait for Marcus is his stubbornness, often pulling himself back up into a fight even though his body is beaten to it’s breaking point. While this means that he is not an easy person to beat in combat or argument it also means that even when given sound argument, or in the face of a unbeatable foe, he will not give up and will continue going with all his will.
    • Narrow Minded: Something that proves to be one of Marcus’ less charming traits is his Narrow mindedness. For him there is only one real way that things should be done and anything different simply doesn’t make sense to him. Even when it comes to combat he relies heavily on his routined Viridian fighting style to help him through things. This often leaving him to be predictable in combat or easy to beat once one learns his style and is able to come up with proper counters for it.
    • Reckless: A true danger to Marcus’ very life is that he can often be rather Reckless in a fight. While he is able to see an opening for attack quickly, he often doesn’t think if it is simply a feint or not and will go to take it. Normally this isn’t something he has to worry about often thanks to his tough armor to protect him. However even outside of his armor and combat he can often still been caught doing reckless things.
    • Obsessive: The unhealthy habit of Marcus, his obsessive nature. Something that can prove to be problematic to him even at the most simple of times. While this doesn’t often go outside of his training, Marcus can still easily become obsessed over something that he starts to take great interest in. While this isn’t a major problem it can still be rather unhealthy, sometimes he will disappear for days to simply go train.
    Strengths
    • Viridian Training: A strength that Marcus prides himself on is his long years training under the Viridian Order. Day in and day out he continues to practice not just with his sword and shield but with his mind as well, Running tactics through his head over and over, making mock up battles on sheets of paper just to see how he could play out different scenarios. This one strength is more than just a fighting style for him, but a way of life, having grown to live and breath his training.
    • Quick Witted: Another one of Marcus’ strengths is his quick wit, a skill that he has grown and molded alongside his Viridian training to better help him in a fight, or to avoid one should he have too. It is this strength that has won him more fights than his combat experience ever has. Often he tells people that a sharp mind can quickly dull a opponents sharp blade, and that one should always watch for those with a silver tongue.
    • Humble Nature: Despite Marcus’ size he is actually a very gentle person outside of combat. He tries to avoid picking fights with people and is more likely to put himself into the middle of one to break it up. However this does not mean that he is one to be pushed around. Should he be faced with somebody who dishonors others, or should his code tell him to, then Marcus will bring up arms, and when he does he will fight with the wrath of the holy spirit behind his blade and the strength of those he holds dear behind his shield.
    Weaknesses
    • Giddy: Marcus’ often overbearing optimism and joy can tend to become to much for others to handle. This not being to true for people he doesn’t know personally but holds some weight. Often times he is asked to calm down or just relax, which he tries to do. But once he is excited and on a roll he can almost become a blur with how happy he can get.
    • Fear of lightning: A fear that Marcus has had at a young age became even more prominent when he ran across a lightning mage in a fight. It was a shock to say the least when the mage suddenly threw up a barrier of electricity around them, crippling Marcus to the ground. He was only glad that he had not been wearing his plate armor during the fight, else he would not be breathing and would simply be a charred corpse deep in the ground.
    • Selfless: Despite what one might normally think of a selfless person, Marcus is often encumbered by this. This weakness can often prove to be his biggest downfall at times that others are involved or forced into a fight. Holding true to his code he is quick to put himself in the line of an attack if it means that he is protecting somebody who either would have died from the attack or they are simply weaker than the other. This is often the cause for many of the scars and near fatal wounds that he has collected over his time outside of the school, and in the couple wars and countless fights he has been involved in since.
    Relationships

Toril Rayner (Deceased): Toril was Marcus’ birth mother who died when he was only a young boy. Leaving him with his father and a deep want to find her killer.

Daria Coiro (Unplayed): Daria is a Ithanian woman who comes from a rather wealthy family. It was due to her recommendation that Marcus was even able to attend the School of Viridian. She is also Marcus’ step-mother but looks to him as one of her own children.

Rodrik Eilert (Unplayed): Rodrik was once Marcus’ closest friends during school. But that quickly changed when Rodrik demanded that Marcus throw the tournament so that he could achieve the title of Paladin. Which of course Marcus denied, telling him that a true Paladin should be somebody who has trained their body and soul and were immune to such things as bribes or other corruptions as such.

    Life Story

Since birth Marcus has been subject to a life of unexpected twists and turns, from the loss of his mother to his first meeting with the Coiros. But let us stop spoiling the story and get into it shall we?

It all started on a cold winter night, snow covered the ground and the soft crunch of snow under the feet of camp of Kalmarra raiders was broken by the crying of a newborn baby boy. As the child’s mother, Toril Rayner, held her new son in her arms she instantly knew what to call him, Marcus. However life was short lived for Toril, for only a mere nine years after Marcus’ birth her blood would stain snow as a unknown person fled the scene, a blood soaked dagger in his hand. Where was Marcus during this you might ask? Well that is simple, he had been at a shop not all that far away. When he saw his mother drop to the ground he would not fully understand it, not until he was at her side, her blood covering his own hands. In desperation he looked about the peering eyes through watered fog, looking for any sign of the attacker, but alas, there was none. On that day Marcus made a vow to bring the man that killed his mother to justice, even if it meant losing his own life down the line.

After the death of his mother his father took to being a sell sword, believing that the death of his mother was due to his own actions as a raider despite the identity of the killer being unknown. Marcus on the other hand, had taken to training himself in both mind and body, sparing everyday with former members of raider group that his father was a part of. However all this would have been changed when his father met Daria Coiro, the woman that would pull his father out of his self blame, and the woman that Marcus would learn to love not as mother but as a person who would change the small family that he had. After adopting the Coiro name Marcus quickly learned of the more militaristic males in the family, taking to them fondly for things such as sparing. It was through these encounters that Marcus would later be encouraged to join a military school. While the Coiro’s pressed Marcus to go to a school that they knew well of, he had his sight set on the School of Viridian. This love being set the day he had observed a School of Viridian tournament. Having seen one particular man triumph over the rest undefeated sparked wonder in the young Northerner’s eyes. Everything about the man radiated what he dreamed of being. The way he spoke, walked and carried himself radiated somebody to be respected.

Three years after all of this Marcus had finally done it, he had managed to convince his step mother to let him enter the School of Viridian at the age of fourteen. Upon entering the school he knew in an instant that it was going to be different than any other training he had done before. Constantly he was forced to grow accustomed to the weight of his armor and how to comfortably move in it without toppling or letting himself become encumbered by it. The thought that this was not just armor, but a part of himself was an ideal that was drilled into his head. Marcus grasped this concept much faster than the other members of his class, quickly adopting the armour as a part of his body and nothing less. It was around this point that he met a friend, Rodrik Eilert, that would help him progress through the training and inspire him to grow to new heights. With the moral support of Rodrik, the remaining training grew easy for Marcus. His sword and shield training became so essential to him that he refused to ever let them leave his side, else he felt naked and exposed. But by far Marcus’ favorite part of his schooling was the code of conduct, their rules falling right into the views of his own and a new strength in the belief of Unionism was born with it.

As Marcus continued on through the years he progressed quicker and further, with his friend Rodrik close at his side. However their friendship was soon to be short lived as they both knew that it would come down to the two of them at the end of the tournament. Rodrik wanted Marcus to through the fight should the situation arise so that he could claim the title of Paladin, but Marcus knew that this violated the very code that he swore to uphold and adhere to. Because of this Rodrik became resentful, and chose to see Marcus as a friend no longer, believing that a true friend would sacrifice something like a title for them. But to Marcus it was so much more than that, there was nothing at this point that he wanted more than to become a Paladin, to become that shining beacon of hope that people look up to. When he entered that arena and prepared to fight against the man he once called friend, he was going to have to call upon every bit of training he learned. He knew that it would take his all to win, after all neither of them had ever beaten one another in a fight.

Greeting each other in the traditional manner the two readied themselves and like thunder the two bashed into each other, swords rang against each other, the sounds of shields striking plate and wood echoed through the cheering crowd. Marcus did not back down for even a moment, his advance continued and pressed on. It wasn’t until hours later that the two of them stood across from one another, breathing heavy and ragged, sweat dripping from under their helmets like a waterfall that finally, Rodrik dropped to his knees and submitted, no longer having the strength to continue. At that moment, Marcus was noted a member of the Paladins and had exceeded the last person in his class that he could. After which he promptly went to his bunk to collapse in bed and sleep for a well deserved amount of time.

So that is the story of Marcus Coiro up to this point. Where will he go? What will he do? Who shall he become? Only time can tell us.

    Alright, sorry about the delay:
    • Really the only request I have is adding another weakness to balance out the Viridian Expert special perm.
When you've made the change, tag me and we'll continue.

@Doc_Cantank Changes have been made in blue! Added Selfless as a weakness, I understand that the name for it may not be the best but it was the only thing that came to mind when trying to come up with what the definition of the weakness.
