    Personality and Abilities

    The Core List

    Character alignment:
Neutral good -- ”Neutral goods value both personal freedom and adherence to laws. They feel that too many laws may unnecessarily restrict the freedom of good beings. They also believe that too much freedom may not protect society as a whole and encourage counterproductive divisions and in-fighting. They promote governments which hold broad powers, but do not interfere in the day-to-day lives of their citizens."

    Personality type:
The Defender -- "Though sensitive, Defenders have excellent analytical abilities; though reserved, they have well-developed people skills and robust social relationships; and though they are generally a conservative type, Defenders are often receptive to change and new ideas."

    Religion:
    • Unionism (0 out of 10; previously more) -- Whilst more devout as a young man, the Leutz sense of pragmatic realism in combination with a wife of an alternate religion has drawn Marcus further away from practicing Unionism at all with his age. Although he might choose Unionism as his faith if the question was asked of him for the sake of simplicity, he neglects even to pray.
    • Oldt Fayth (3 out of 10) -- Despite being raised a Unionist by his parents, Marcus was easily swayed over to the Oldt Fayth by his Velheim wife; she made no attempt to convert him, but just by proximity Marcus was easily swayed by a religion so deeply entwined in something as important to him as honour.

    Weaknesses:
    • Cynical and Untrusting -- although Marcus Blackadder is unerringly loyal to his friends and family, his age and experience have left him unconvinced in the well-meaning of others; it takes Marcus a rather long time to progress any relationship past acquaintancy, provided there isn't already some link in place.
    • Fearful -- once an enthusiastic young gun, as Blackadder has settled down with a wife and children he has become increasingly scared of leaving them behind without him. Previously he had little regard for his own well-being, and so lead a life of egregious debauchery, but now he spends his time far more sensibly and safely - and he's deathly afraid of war.
    • Uninviting -- with an almost perpetually dour look upon his countenance and a dry, subtle sense of humour it's not uncommon for Marcus to come across as unkind or unfriendly; and when he comes across this way, he's often more fond of teasing the other person for having been insulted by his jokes than he is of apologising to them.

    Relations:
    • Family
      • Selvie Atwood -- Marcus' wife. When the pair met, Mark was amid a long period of despondency following the death of his previous partner of many years ago; despite the large cultural barriers between them, Selvie helped him through his grief and within a few months the pair became rather close. Recently Marcus has taken a second attempt at finding work outside of combat, prompted by a want to remain close-by his wife.
      • Erik, Bjørn, and Torsten Blackadder-Atwood -- Marcus and Selvie’s sons. Erik is the eldest at four; Bjørn is two; and Torsten is a chubby one year old. Currently the three remain by Selvie’s side in their Regalia home, whilst Marcus seeks work.
      • Margaret and Louis Blackadder -- Marcus' rather elderly mother and father. Both are still living back home in Leutz territory, and in frequent exchange of letters with their son.
    • Friends
      • Nikolas and Kolton -- Marcus' closest friends. The pair have been at his side since they were just teens, and met him in the Leutz military. Following Marcus' retirement from the service, the pair were given tutorship by him and their friendship eventually culminated into an invitation to join him as partners in his mercenary work. Recently the trio have parted ways, Marcus having been the first one to leave in a desire to remain with his family full-time.

    Life Story

    Childhood
    • [0] - Marcus Blackadder was born in the Autumn of 270 AC in Osteiermark. He was the only child of Louis and Margaret, and born into a family trade of carpentry on his father’s side.
    • [1-7] - His immediate youth was largely unassuming. Marcus was raised speaking Leutz-Vixe, but his parents took the time to make sure his common was up to par for a boy his age. Once he was old enough, his father gave Marcus tasks around his shop and began to show him little tidbits of the family trade.
    • [8-9] - Despite still being but a boy, it didn't take long for the young Leutzman to notice almost every other boy had a father in the military. Marcus was never resentful of his father's work, but he wanted nothing more than to be able to tell stories of battle like the other boys did, and so he broached the question of breaking the family tradition to his parents rather young. His father was more of a traditionalist, but his mother was rather fond of the idea of a prestigious military boy, and so she easily swayed her husband to allow Marcus to train once he was a few years older.
    Adolescence
    • [10-12] - Up until his early teens his time was largely spent in the modest storefront of his father. Shortly following his twelfth birthday, Marcus’ uncle returned home from his wanderings as a small-time sellsword; and it was agreed that next time he set off he would take Marcus with him and give him tutorship. His parents thought that would be preferable for everyone compared to signing up to the military as a boy.
    • [13-14] - During these few years he made his plans to leave, and imagining that it would soon all be rather pointless Marcus asked that his carpentry tutoring would be stopped. He still helped with the shop until he left, but he saved his father the effort of teaching someone who had other plans in mind. Additionally, during these years Marcus met and childishly thought himself to be rather quickly in love with a local girl, Emily.
    • [15] - As soon as they were able, Marcus and Emily were married, despite scarcely knowing one another at all. All of Marcus’ time was taken by his uncle rather immediately after his marriage, and so he spent a neglectfully small amount of time with Emily after the intrigue of the idea itself had passed.
    • [16-17] - He and his uncle said their final farewells to their friends and family, and the pair set off on a roundabout, indirect route towards their destination. Along the way Marcus gained a little training in swordsmanship; his uncle was barely more than a novice himself, so progress was slow, but they did what they could to prepare for the rigorous regiment ahead for Marcus. After a little more than two years of pathing about the continent, they arrived at the outskirts of Turent.
    Adulthood
    • [18-28] - Awaiting Marcus were the grounds of the School of Turall, upon an otherwise unimpressive hillside just outside of the town; it was here that he remained for the following ten years. Over the long, arduous duration he was almost exclusively in training with his time. In the school there was a large amount of camaraderie and socialisation between the students, but a majority of pupils were sent here on (or shortly after) their tenth birthday, and so Marcus found it a little difficult to settle. This was made doubly true around three years prior to his graduation, when Marcus received word from home saying that Emily had fallen gravely ill; given his pragmatism, he reasoned that by the time he made it home it was likely that she would have already passed away, and so he continued on until graduation. Regardless, it weighed heavily upon him.
    • [29-31] - As soon as he graduated as a Turall bladesman he returned home to grieve. He spent three years working for the Leutz military in positions he was overqualified for, and he was altogether discontent; on the bright side however, it was during these few years that he met two young men, Nikolas and Kolton, who would go on to be his lifelong companions.
    • [32] - Dissatisfied and with a melancholic grimness to show for it, Marcus set off to travel again in search of a use for himself and for something other than wallowing to occupy his time. With Nikolas and Kolton to accompany him, the trio ventured North as mercenaries, and eventually they found themselves entering into Drixagh.
    • [33] - Whilst in Drixagh, Marcus met Selvie Atwood. He was reluctant and abrasive towards the idea of attachment, but she was patient and kind and spent much of her own time helping him past his deep-set grief and upset with life, and the two grew close. Before the year was up Marcus was besotted with Selvie, and the pair were engaged.
    • [34-37] - Taking a more managerial role with Nikolas and Kolton, Marcus fell back from active combat; he did fight, and still often, but it was far less-so than prior to his engagement. During these few years Marcus and Selvie had their marriage ceremony, and three children: Erik; Bjørn; and Torsten Blackadder-Atwood; .
    • [38, present day] - Altogether things look up for Marcus. He has two dear friends, a wife, and three sons; and no matter how many times he dryly quips about how terrible life is, they all know he is at least less serious than he has been for many years prior. Leaving Nikolas and Kolton to finish their business in Drixagh before inevitably joining him, Marcus is now on his travels to Regalia with his wife, Selvie Atwood, in tow.
