I was very distraught to find a Maiar may not have large intelligence without constant focus on knowledge. I thought this was interesting with a species incredibly adaptive and evolutionary. In my scientific thought, I thought this was pretty strange. So this is why I'm posting this. I had the idea of a separate evolutionary cycle going through a scholarly idea fase. Many people believe the idea of "jaws-like beings" is a bit overplayed.

I had an idea for a maiar being more turtle-based beings.
-excuse my drawing skills

I had the idea that to achieve this evolution, one must have extreme studying for several years. Beyond that point, one has a basically normal (human) attention span. This means they can retain information without constant studying of it.

This evolution is better at jogging and will eat whatever without changing the cycle.

The body style is more skinny and weak with limber joints and large muscles around arms and legs (see picture)

It is true that jaws-like maiar are very common (heheh. Guilty.) but it is not as if the lore stops anybody from making an intelligent one. I mean, if you can think of a situation in which turtle-like maiar may evolve, the lore doesn't even stop you from doing that, and I feel that sub-evolutions are pretty much able to be made up by players, to an extent.

I have a smartish orc.

It is incredibly hard to get a scholar maiar approved due to the wiki saying "Maiar can actually lose their intelligence after long exposure to solitude. Being exposed to nothing new eventually degrades their mind into a purely instinct driven thing."

So if you say your traveled on a bout, your will get "did you study the whole ride?"

I mean, I guess Maiar are a very extreme race. They adapt to fit their habitat etc. If you want a maiar to be smart, then you can have them a scholar. To be honest, I personally don't see any problem with that (I mean, it wouldn't be too difficult to have a maiar studying on a boat. They just need to bring tuff with them.), but perhaps you do. In any event, I see how it may be tricky to have a maiar that is smart but not a scholar. Perhaps 'Maiar' is just not the best race for the particular character you are wanting, or see other people wanting?

EDIT: Bear in mind also that evolutionary physiology does not affect maiars the instant their habitat changes (or whatever is causing the evolution) and so they would have to be on that boat for several years (most likely) for them to become instinct-driven. Also, maiar can stop evolving at any point, which includes their state of mind, presumably, and thus they are free to stop studying but retain their intelligence.

Dude Maiars can totally be scholars, mine is approved and fights to battle that stereotype specifically. All you need is a really good source of knowledge and some way to encourage the Maiar to be knowledge-hungry. My maiar Akamai was taken in by a scholar and he adopted her as his child, hence she was exposed to knowledge since the beggining. Also she takes studying seriously because of the racism in her childhood.

You can join in and make more smart Maiar to change the fate of the race >:D
