To start with, a story. People from a faction near my got into my animal area and killed all my animals. It was pretty easy to figure out who, so a path of vengeance was set before me. In global chat, I learned that their faction did not have many friends, and they seemed to be generally disliked. Rumors of cheating and hacking were thrown about.

On my first visit to their faction territory while they were home resulted in confusion. What's this? I cannot hit them! So, the first thing to learn is that you can't hit anyone on their territory unless your faction is an enemy with their faction. The command '/f enemy {faction name}' is how you achieve that. Without that command, you just kind of stand there while they kill you.

My second visit had all the earmarked of being a much better visit. I had used the important '/f enemy' command so I could actually hit them. But...but, but, but. They had plugged the holes in their walls I used to sneak in on the first visit and I'm sure they saw me come in on that first visit. So, second lesson, don't let them know that you know what holes exist in their defenses.

So I had to get in another way, which I did manage to do. Now I was ready to start killing them...except they weren't there. They were hiding in the floor. Which, given that I was there with people from another faction, people with much higher skills that me makes a lot of sense really, but it was frustrating none the less. You know what else is frustrating? Getting hit by your allies because you haven't allied them before coming in to raid. So, lesson three is to use the command to make your allies your allies. I believe '/f ally {faction name}' is the command you need for that.

Now I was in their faction, and there was at least one person, who I thought was a member of the faction there because they kept getting killed. So I waited my turn, and when they attacked me, I attacked them back and killed them. They sort of blinked out and right back, right there in front of me. And of course they started hitting me again, so I killed them. Then I just kept killing them. It turns out, this is spawn camping. Even if they have somehow managed to set their spawn to a point that isn't a bed, isn't a faction spawn point or a world spawn point, it's still spawn camping. Lesson Four (in caps because it's important) Spawn Camping is Spawn Camping. Don't do it, even if you think they're being invisible, glitching or outright cheating. For what it's worth, that was the first person I'd ever killed in Minecraft, much less in MassiveCraft. I had heard so much about them cheating, I thought they were cheating.

Now get this. That person was no longer a member of the faction, so their repeated deaths had no effect on the faction's power. He was kicked from the faction just prior to the raid and left upstairs...I'm guessing as bait. The people who were there to seriously raid were just wasting their time. It gets better. That person couldn't kill anyone because (a) they were new and had low skill levels and (b) the raiders, myself included, were in diamond armor. It was futile. At some point in the middle of the whole thing, this person started flying, and taking a LOT less damage than you would expect from an unarmored person. Being the newb that I am, I thought at first that this was some sort of lag or something, but no, they were actually flying around. At this point, the raiders started to leave. I'm guessing I didn't leave fast enough because they started following me, probably to finish me off. While I'm am totally a Minecraft newb, I'm not a newb to FPS. Strafing and back pedaling kept me alive long enough to regen some health, but I was finally backed into a corner, but survived anyway and killed them again. At this point, I found a hole to hide in and /f home. The Lesson 5 here is to learn about carrying 10 feathers. I'll leave that to you to learn about.

Lesson 6? That's where the flying person got banned. I don't know about the rest of the people from that faction. I messaged the main guy from the faction we were raiding that we could pick things up later, but haven't heard from them or seen them since. Lesson 7 might be don't associate with people cheating in the game and maybe that switching to a different character to cheat might still lead back to you. I'm not sure about that Lesson 7 yet, but I guess time will tell.

So that's it. That is my tale. Learn from my Newbism and don't make the mistakes I did. :-)

Oh wait, there's another lesson. In the middle of the fight, as an apology, I sent the person I spawn camped 5 silver. I type pretty quick, so even though they were hitting me, this went off OK. Since they tried to kill me by becoming a flying angel of doom and then got banned, I wasted 5 silver. The last lesson is don't waste your money on useless gestures unless you have a lot of it.

I've done quite a few of those before and still do them sometimes like the whole "F Enemy" thing. You just tunnel vision tracking them down on the map, then going there, and trying to find a way in that you just completely forget about it.

As for the spawn camping thing, that guys bed might have been underground and there is a glitch where sometimes you will spawn on the ground above your bed. Honest mistake but still "spawn camping"

As for the power loss thing that isn't turned on for Massive. You gain/lose ten points for members but you don't loose any for dying. It would never work because there are just to many factions and one faction could essentially "war claim" everyone land before they have enough time to build up defenses or anything like that. At first I missed this when we moved maps but after awhile I realized it just would't work.

But glad to see you stayed on the server and toughed it out. Most would just leave after their precious animals got killed or one single block in their "awesome" faction base got griefed.

Oh, I knew about the animals and 'griefing'. I was a member of Eternia back before it merged with Luukerdam. We had a couple people come through and kill everyone and a couple people come through and kill all the animals, then one of our faction members got mad and that was pretty bad. There was lava everywhere, broken buildings, etc. It would have been impressive if it wasn't so destructive. Then Luuk got mad and left, disbanding the faction so I had to hide for awhile because all my stuff was still under my busted house. I will say, for the most part anyone I've met and talked to has been nice. Anyone I've met in the wilderness has killed me...so I guess it balances out somewhere.

I don't plan on leaving any time soon...I've spent too much time having fun on the server. :-) Seems to be a better run server overall...more RPG than just public Minecraft if you know what I mean.
