The sun had begun to slowly sink behind the far off Hadrian Mountains as Volkner von Karlisle's carriage arrived back in Brückenburg, the capital of Hinterberg. The streets were beginning to quiet with shops closing, cafes bringing in their outdoor furniture, and the taverns along the Rroine slowly filled. The mundane city was peaceful, but the Count's mind was filled by anything but. Word had come recently to the Lothar Knight of the attack on a Grauwald Safehouse, and he was eager for retaliation. As his entourage closed in on the Lowengrube Citadel, Volkner peered out the carriage windows back towards Hadrian's chain, watching the last of the day's rays slip away.
He had called for a council to convene to discuss the Arken attacks, with his father Strathorne, uncle Wilhelm and brother Wulfhram in attendance. However they would have to wait, as the ride from Regalia to Hinterberg was long, and the day was over. Instead Volkner retired to his quarters where he was greeted by his loyal hound, Fitzroy, who gleefully wagged his tail at the sight of his master. He sat with his companion at his side, his appearance orange as the large roaring fireplace warming him reflected its light, shadows bouncing around the room. He felt a slice of the peace he was looking for, free for a moment of this war against magic. He was engrossed in the latest adventure stories from Acksfoort when Fitzroy let out a low growl, which Volkner first mistook for a yawn. It wasn't until he saw the shadows flicker strangely in the corner of his eye that he took notice of the figure mere meters away. The Count froze, though he couldn't tell if it was his own inability to move, or the doing of the stranger. His eyes moved to meet the others, only to see something.. Familiar.
"I'm home."
And then, he was gone.

A memorial for the victims of this unhinged attack against House von Karlisle will be arranged. Count Volkner will be remembered as a strong Lothar leader against the threat of magic in the Regalian Empire.
