Language, Roleplay Convenience And Powergaming

just wanna say that dwarven isnt on this list, probs cause it is an actual language but nobody knows it cause either tolkien was too lazy to invent it or secretive (i mean dwarves are secretive)

I think it was just that those Elves were scholars and had taken the time to learn Ancient Dwarvish; after all, the company of Thorin Oakenshield couldn't read it themselves, and they all were Dwarves (except for Bilbo).

Sorry, I've forgotten-- They were Lore Masters. They knew Ancient Dwarvish because they were Lore Masters.
 
Hmm, good point. Did Dwarvish perhaps die out in LOTR then? There was never mention of it, after all, and the dwarves all spoke, er, human?

wow, you guys are way off
the dwarves couldn't read the dwarvish cause it was special moon-writing, plus i think is was elvish, not dwarvish, only written in dwarf-runes
the elves knew dwarf runes, not the language
dwarvish is very different from elvish
dwarves spoke common, not *shudder* human. there is no human, there is gondor and rohan, etc, no human.
you guys' lack of knowledge of Tolkien is practically killing m-....

it is the account of the creation of middle earth, the creation and loss of the silmarils, the war for said silmarils, and other events of the elder days.

in english: its about the elves and what happened before Sauron

very confusing cause there is no main character, so once you think you know who they are talking about when they say someone's name the guy up and dies or the book just stops talking about them.
summory: mr. long-dead elf created beautiful jewels and he and his kin take a vow to avenge anyone who would keep the jewels from them. mr. first-dark-lord takes them and goes to his fortress and, well, yea. defies mr. elf. mr. elf and all his friends leave the undying lands where they have lived for almost forever and go to war against Morgoth (the dark lord). of course Morgoth is almost 100x more powerfull then sauron, so yea, the war is hopeless. however the elves can make a stand in middle earth enough to keep some lands fairly safe. eventually the Ainor (the "gods") and the Maiar (the "angels") eventually help the elves in their war. Elrond half-elven and the great-great-great grandfather of Aragorn are born near the end (they are brothers.)
