First suggestion, be kind please :P

Upon deciding to make Ithania my home I came into the beautiful town of Havenreach (Bloody good job to the chap who made this and the map!) But when I left the safety of the town and into the wilderness it was a mess. Gaping holes, abandoned chests, floating blocks, floating trees (my all time pet hate) and a few other things. Something needs to be done, so here is my suggestion, and sorry if this has been discussed before or if there is a team who do this type of work already (if so please get to work :) )

Basically there should be a team of people, who play on a certain map, are in charge of keeping the map beautiful. Simple things like filling holes, removing floating trees, and removing abandoned buildings/chests whatever. If a player spots a dent on the landscape (call it griefing for example) then they can file a ticket for it to get fixed. A landscaper (can't think of another name) then gets an email and proceeds to fix the issue.

This is mearly keeping the peace, it's not changing the maps at all as they are perfect the way they are, it's to keep the maps looking tidy and presentable for newcomers and veterans alike, basic upkeep.

Thanks and hopefully this will be something to build upon.

We as a staff don't have time for this due to other duties.

There was a player iniative some while ago where people got motivated and spent resources to make the map pretty again, but I haven't heard anything of this for a long time and I doubt anything was produced.

The only solution I see is that you either report ugly chunks to firesoap/ninjabaver IF they ever feel like doing some map regenning, or start a player initiative. You can do this in the general forum section if you want.

My suggestion is a new team of people to do the duty not add more duties to the already busy staff.

Your suggestion of players doing it themselves is another good one. Have a weekend where everyone chips in and clean up the ugly places in maps.

Perhaps we should start a new society? The Safeguarding and Preservation of World Map's. :P

Or just spread the word in general as MonMarty suggested. I will gather what I can and start to rebuild on the road from Havenreach.

Myself and a few others tried this in Daendroc, but it got to the point where it was just beyond being plausible. Ithania still looks fine to some extent and its the world I play in the most now so I tear down whatever I see that is ugly, but then you have that ONE player that comes back after 20-25 days and goes "oh noez my house/chest" and happens to see my name on the HE tool...

It would be so much easier to remove floating trees if you could burn them or if the leaves would disappear like they are supposed to.

What is the time frame before abandoned houses/chests/etc... can be removed? Does the server have a rule one this?

I agree, I thought it was just me but leaves don't disappear as normal. Is there an explanation for this?

I'll just pop in to say this.

Sorry about the floating leaves northeast of Regulus. I plan to go through with shears and harvest them at some point, I just haven't got around to doing it.

I have though about something like that. I could possibly spend time for big stuff one time a week, so if you give a good dynmap link I'll look what I can do. This only goes for really big stuff or entirly annoying floating things.
Please create such a team, make a thread where you list abandonned and ugly structures and report the biggest ones to me (or firesoap or ninjabaver).

I recently removed such a cobble town and it took me about an hour with worldedit (ithania is faster because we can use regen)...
Please get something moving :)

it's going to take one very dedicated person to get this going and keep people moving on this. can YOU be that person...? hope so. good luck.

I think it's more about making people aware and if they are bored or have some free time, to please fix or report an damaged areas/abandoned sites. Everyone can get involved. I think a new parent (correct term?) is the way forward. People can then add a thread and report about areas which have been blighted and if someone is near the area or have some free time they can go and fix it and report back. Same for abandoned areas. This way it's not on any one persons shoulders. A report will contain the co-ords and a nearby local landmark or faction (even a screenshot if possible).

I'd support helping out with this every once in awhile, and I agree that it'd be helpful if there was a central location where problem areas could be reported. Rather than trying to have a few people do everything we should try to get many to do just a little. Maybe contact the various faction leaders that are actively using their Ithania land?

Any mods reading this?

We could have a system much like the suggestions area. Have players post threads in the troubled areas listing the issues and co-ords/landmarks and then once they the job is complete put the thread in a jobs done folder.
