Justin5191's Build Show-off

You're getting there. Not as good as some of the best, but by far not the worst I have seen. Your castles don't look organic enough. You use a lot of variation of block, but not enough variation of shape. I saw a lot of the typical 4 square towers connected by walls.

First of all to everyone who replied thanks for all the awesome feedback it means a lot. Imma address some of these comments tho.

I'm glad that I am not the worst you've seen hahaha. I actually purposefully make a lot of my builds non-organic looking just because that's the aesthetic I find most pleasing. Organic building is something I'm working on tho if you look at the second castle in the slide-show you can see it. I would like to know your thoughts on that one in particular if you are willing to share. The square castles/keeps are mostly due to the fact that I've really been interested in norman square keeps and trying to emulate them in minecraft. I also just like to make square shaped things hahaha :D.

I really like it! Have you ever tried the massivecraft resource pack? C;

Here's the link incase your interested: http://www.massivecraft.com/media

Keep up the good work~
Thanks for the comment. I have actually tried the massivecraft resource pack and I normally use it when I'm playing on the server, but I just prefer the default resource pack for general building.

I love the endstone house with shubs on the roof :D
Hahaha yes this is one of my favorite small builds. I love to mess around with sod roofs cause I think they look so cool.

Your tents remind me of Pariah folk, Oh how I miss it.
Building tents is one of my favorite things to do. If you liked those I have a build world filled with hundreds of different tents and tent like stuff that I'd be happy to share with you.

I really like your sandvillages, they have a coherent style throughout and it all fits together really well.

For the medieval castles, personally, I think they lack depth. You could try to make use of stairs and halfslabs to create some outlines or elements sticking out. Additionally, the planes which are just one sort of block are looking too plain to me, medieval buildings would probably have some mossy parts, some other places were they were patched up with another material and some minor (or major) metal fenced windows. Give it a try, experiment and some of that might apply to your personal building style :)

For the small forts, especially picture 54, really cought my attention. I like the feel they have a lot, being cossy and protecting you while it looking as it was built up really fast from the people living in it. Ready to take foot in another land, but also ready to abandon the now and move into the future. Surely, the concepts stated for the castles could be applied to the outer walls aswell, but that is only a minor thing for that :)

All in all, it's a really nice Stack of pictures ;) If it was intentionally in stack size, great job on that :D ;)

This is exactly what I was thinking while building that. I'm glad that was something that was translated into the build. I was kinda inspired by the Roman forts built in Britain and wanted to build something like that on a smaller scale.

Hahaha this was completely unintentional. Thanks for pointing it out.

@justin5191 I quite like your castles. I've noticed people have a tendency to build things unrealistically in Minecraft and make them look more complicated, believing complicated is better.
From my experience that is not always the case, and when I see builds that I can understand why they look like that, I like them more. Whilst Jamziboy is very mainstream now, he is a good example of simple, however effective.

As far as feedback goes, I think with your style you would definitely benefit from playing around with window styles, and door styles. By this I mean making intrinsic borders around doors and windows to add more of a 3-D feel to it.
Also, as far as I'm aware, default is a no-no in building communities.
If it's a computer problem, void that, however if it's not, play around with either Conquest, John Smith or our very own MassiveCraft texture-pack. Over time you'll find it a lot more comfortable.
Finally I would like to say I'm a big fan of your style, and not just because it's similar to mine.
Aced it baby!

I love the little grass-roofed village, and the sun design in the sand :) There's definitely potential for a great builder.

I think pics 27-31 for the builds were all really good. I especially liked the way that you used cobble and stone brick in #27 and #28, I can never get them to go so well together like that :P

I also like what you did with the wooden roofs on #4
