I Think I Might Know Why Pvp Traits Got Removed

I thought it was common knowledge that it because there was this forum thread about traits, and literally all the hotshot pvpers were in agreement that they were totally wack, and then gethelp came in and gavehelp

Most people are still mad they took away PvP traits

Everyone in the PvP community (aka the people who actually had to use these traits) is jumping with joy that they removed PvP traits.

PvP traits basically drove away 3/4 of the entire PvP community because they ruined the experience due to severe game breaking bugs that caused people to do completely random amounts of damage.

Not much reason to be upset that they're gone. Aside from any bugs that they brought, the whole point of traits was flawed. A plugin that's supposed to implement diversity and strategy into combat doesn't work when many traits are unbalanced, literally broken, or just simply useless in just about every situation. Every PvPer used just about the same meta trait build anyways, since it's clearly the most effective overall, with maybe like 3-5 traits that get swapped in and out sometimes, and negative traits that barely effect combat, if at all. And it's still like that now, just instead of stacking power/defensive traits, it's now stacking speed2 and feedalways to clear up inventory space, since there's no reason not to. Kind of surprised speed2 didn't get removed with the combat traits; it very much is a 'combat trait' given how important movement speed is and that it is advantageous to use it over carrying potions.

I mean, it just doesn't make sense to have combat traits at all when there's clearly superior options among them and everyone just uses the same build anyways.

It was one of those "good in theory but not in practice" situations. As the pvpers had pointed out, all pvpers essentially used the same traits making nobody get an advantage effectivly making the traits redundant.. but they had the balancing issues so it was best to remove them

I think the reason that PVP related traits were removed was because of one compelling argument which either Benrekt made or Jes_, I don't remember, either way it came down to: "While the theory behind traits is nice, all it does right now is make PVP exactly the same, but with really weird numbers that have no correlation with PVP on other servers".

That is pretty much the argument that defeated the merit of PVP traits, and had them disabled.

If i may ask tho, how were races any different? It just seems that pvpers would still pick the same race.. as they picked the same traits.. yet it seems they would take that still even after the traits are removed

I don't understand this question. It's not like I was arguing in favor of races or even bringing it up. Seems like a really random segway that has nothing to do with the thread.

Not.. really? I can reitterate.

I was simply asking what made races any different.. because it would appear that since everybody would use the same traits.. that everybody would pick the same race. While the ultimate reason traits were removed as you semi-quoted was because everybody used the same traits, then why would races be favored in that community, even now after traits were removed . I think its a pretty on topic question.. not trying to start an argument.. just curious

I think one inherent difference between traits and races is that while with traits you get a handful to pick, with races you're stuck with one. This means that it's way watered down and it's really just one or two smallish advantages that people can just roll with if they want.

unless you're @TheLoneShepherd and have a small legion of newbs with that one race that stacks damage via proximity, races didn't make a radical difference in pvp by introducing broken numbers and weird rando logistics like traits did, which means that races were more skill reliant with one or two handy quirks, like the elven bow bonus if that floats your boat.

Also, that's not really what marty was saying. I mean, there's always gonna be a meta in any system like this. That's just how it works. The real reason traits were removed was because when you actually used them it really just made it vanilla pvp but with weird, almost random debuffs and damages that were happening that were kinda broken.

This ^^^

Also, I think the majority of the community is perfectly happy without either, we would just prefer races over traits. Neither of them is even better.
