I think one inherent difference between traits and races is that while with traits you get a handful to pick, with races you're stuck with one. This means that it's way watered down and it's really just one or two smallish advantages that people can just roll with if they want.

@TheLoneShepherd and have a small legion of newbs with that one race that stacks damage via proximity, races didn't make a radical difference in pvp by introducing broken numbers and weird rando logistics like traits did, which means that races were more skill reliant with one or two handy quirks, like the elven bow bonus if that floats your boat.
Also, that's not really what marty was saying. I mean, there's
always gonna be a meta in any system like this. That's just how it works. The real reason traits were removed was because when you actually used them it really just made it vanilla pvp but with weird, almost random debuffs and damages that were happening that were kinda broken.
