Hi, so uhhh.... I really like to roleplay but I have found that I am really REALLY awkward when it comes introducing myself / starting roleplay.... So I thought "what better place to seek help than the forums!" And I would like some tips from any role players that can help.. I guess...

Welp. I find this hard, but I generally pull a sort of "I'm bored. Hmph, guess I'd best talk to that loser over there."

EDIT: That said, it depends on your character. You don't always need that great a reason, because once you're talking, they'll forget your introduction.

I personally just find trying to jump into something is the best way to go about it. I'll roleplay with you sometime! :3 I'm quite open to role playing with others and I can be a bit awkward too. >,> Maybe we could help each other! Hahah. My IGN is Miss_Confined so whenever you are on feel free to shoot me a PM or something.

It always helps to start off with a question-- such as, "Hello, ser, I'm fairly new to Regalia and I'm not sure where the Old God's temple is; can you perhaps point me in the right direction?" Then you can be all polite and ask for the other's name to thank him properly. If you ever ask my character, Ysrael, for help, he will gladly. :) I'm on my phone, or else I'd give you more suggestions~

I like to make characters who are a tad over-familiar and just ask the person next to them if they'd care for a drink. Works pretty well, I find.

Just be nice. Unless they're a child. If there a child... Destroy them poke them randomly. It gets quite interesting and you can get some fun RP out of it.

ą¹–Ū£ŪœPersonally, I just approach people with anything whatsoever. Vague, but here is how one could meet in my most common used ways;
  1. Compliment their clothing. Then, move the topic onto 'where is it from, how much did it cost', and then say your will use your manners and give off your own name.
  2. Tag along with parties. Little groups have their own little roleplays, so when one of them needs assistance such as an argument, walk over and be the peace-keeper. One of them is bound to stay and thank you.
  3. Go to parties. The Golden Peacock has a few of them randomly, and they often are public. Join things like those, and just find someone you can say "Nice ale, huh?", "You having fun?", "I've h-had one too many..." that sort of thing. Remember, your character doesn't always need to be in their smartest or their healthiest point to meet and greet!

It's important not to seem too contrived when approaching this subject so I understand your quandary x'D
I've found it simply works best to have something about your character, or do something with them that attracts people's attention- but not in an extravagant way.

For example Wuvee, my Vespid, cannot speak in adherence to the practices of the culture he comes from. So he often has to spend his time writing, or if that's unavailable, miming it up! Which as you can imagine, can be a little goofy and sometimes problematic. So there's kind of a domino effect with how much interest he gets from the individuals he's surrounded by.
You just have to give someone something to react to first; and it doesn't have to be big! You could simply be sitting by a fountain and sneeze. Or, for the more adventurous, in you come across someone in the forest, you might hide in a tree and accidentally drop a twig on their head. Voila, instant-reaction garners.
And the best thing about it, is that it really only takes one little thing to get the ball rolling, and once you have, it's easy to keep it rolling so long as you remember that people want you to react to their character too!
Always be sure to give sufficient reaction to the actions of the other person's character, otherwise there's a good chance they'll get bored. It's never much fun to roleplay with someone who's too self-absorbed. In the end, that's pretty much like roleplaying with yourself.. In which case you'd be better off simply writing a novel.

1. Stalk someone
2. Learn everything about them
3. Bring something up
4. ???
5. Profit!

But no, you shouldn't stalk people. If you see someone talking about something your character knows about you should always feel free to jump on in, as most are pretty open to let other rp with them.
