Hello! I would like to start a "think tank" of sorts. The idea is this: Roleplay takes place mostly in the tavern and a handful of other places. Regalia is HUGE. Not only that, but there are smaller settlements around the island. With Regalia V5 coming soon-ish, it's hard not to question how to get roleplay to take place all over the city. So, I was wondering what would get you to roleplay elsewhere? What would get you to stray from your usual paths to go somewhere else? We have other roleplay towns and worlds, but it all seems to be constrained to the Golden Willow and the surrounding area.

I was wondering, how could Regalia V6 (not V5, as V5 is already well underway and a complete overhaul would be difficult) be designed to facilitate roleplay away from the tavern? How could the roleplay world be set up to help roleplay occur on the Isle of Mull, the Regalian wilderness, etc? How can we make the idea of new quest and roleplay worlds more appealing to the staff, so that new worlds (such at Etosil) may someday see the greenlight?

I would like to put my two-cents in there:
I would like to see Regalia not be the immediate spawn place for /tp roleplay. Instead, I would like for there to be a teleport area, with Regalia, the Isle of Mull, and any other roleplay worlds lined up. Regalia may not even be the one that appears right in front of the player when they spawn. This would remove the automatic "go to Regalia" mentality that everyone has (in theory). We have a center leaning bias, after all.

Possibly, the Golden Willow could be more difficult to walk to, and instead have its own separate teleport command. Players would then be used to using /tp roleplay, and would be encouraged to find new roleplay areas. I remember the really old spawn world in Cerardia. As far as I remember, roleplay happened all over. I may be incorrect, though. The tavern was also not directly in front of spawn, if I recall correctly, as well.

Now, with that out of the way, feel free to discuss in the comments below, but keep it civil. Have a Massive day!

Taking a place players like Rping at and making it a ballache to get to just to change where people RP doesn't seem productive at all.

Beyond that, V5 is specifically being designed so players wont have to teleport, and to make things easier to get to so RP will be able to flow outwards and not just be centered on the most easy to access spots. Designing it to be the opposite of that just to justify a TP system is equally counter productive.

The two big reasons RP right now is scarce around the city is because: 1- When V5 was announced, a portion of players (say maybe 20%) stopped RPing to wait for V5. With the decrease in players, other people quit RPing because it was slowing down- people would log in to find RP and everywhere was dead. It domino'ed until it got to where it is now. And beyond that, the design of Regalia has slowly been made more and more muddled. It wasnt meant to really be what it is now, it got expanded, and redesigned in chunks until the city became impossible to navigate for some. So all Rp centered on the Main Street.

If V5's solutions (Being out and being more fluidly designed) don't work well then we can talk about how to fix that but as it stands without even seeing it, I don't think theres any point in this tbh.

Fair point. I suppose that this thread could be locked or deleted if this is counterproductive. Sorry about that.

Stay online, and stay available.

I spend a lot of time talking about this with players and other staff members in my social circles. Make yourself available to other people for roleplay, even if it means going up to a group and breaking the ice yourself. I would never have gotten better or improved or even stayed in the community if I hadn't thrust myself into roleplay. Welcome new people into your groups if you have them. Roleplay has become more about logic and winning than being welcoming and having fun.

It can be hard even for staff members. Staff members, especially lore staff, have this thing @SpunSugar and I have been calling the blue man effect. Staff members are acknowledged as great roleplayers, but sometimes players are scared to approach us OOCly or ICly for roleplay.

Message people, get them online. Make a forums post for a group. Apply to another group instead of making one. The more higher our player count, the faster it increases. Message people you would never talk to, get yourself out there. I know I love it when people ask me to roleplay, I eat that shit up and it makes me want to roleplay with them again.

So, long story short, just be online and be proactive.

No need for that, its all good. Im a bit of a no life so I dropped into the big meeting, and have read like all the threads lol. The reasoning in threads was strung out and if you missed the meeting its very easy to miss the reasons behind some of the decisions so no worries. Im just lucky to not have any limits on when I can pop into stuff atm.

Your points might end up being relevant if V5's approach doesnt work. We wont know until we know I suppose lol.

Honestly, I've always had one idea but it acts more as a negative than a positive. Discord, but the problem exists that people won't be willing to share their discord names and what-not. It's a security and privacy concern, but it is a good way to communicate.

What I am implying for this is creating a server-wide discord channel for all roleplayers on the server, which would be split into different channels for different regions. Say if you had Regalia, you could post eventing, roleplay situations, and whatnot for the different districts. You could be notified that somebody is being stabbed on in the port and your character, coincidentally lives in the port. You can pop on and help, building the heightened security Regalia is supposed to have but this feature could be abused by lack of relevance or just: "Somebody is being stabbed outside the Obscure Oyster, any residents able to lend a hand?" *Thirty people turn up, swords in hand.* It's an idea, but it can be abused very easily. This can be stretched from eventing to notifications in the tavern or even just a general question on if anyone wants to come on. Just, our community is a hand-grenade waiting for its hammer to fly. It'd have to be maintained constantly, either by staff or even a voluntary committee overseeing it.

This could be easily moved over to the Isle of Mull and potentially even Silverwind, the areas will likely sit unused permanently unless motions are put in place to signal "Hey guys, there are people here." Having this channel specifically for the towns, area, and the region as a whole would allow things to work a bit more smoothly. You could have a channel for Kalwry, the other little town, and exteriors such as a sanguine-filled cave terrorizing the towns to a bandit camp sat in the wilderness. With this all in place, it'd be easy to just send a message and everyone would be notified. Just burnt down somebodies house, great. Now people know to come on, instead of seeing it on the forums in a few hours later.

It's a decent idea in my head, just the negatives outweigh the positives.

My main concern is that we will start roleplaying exclusively on the discord, though I'm unaware of the actual probability of that happening. But, I do agree that we should take some motive in attempting to increase roleplay

Discord RP pretty much doesn't exist. Everything has to happen in game or in formal posts to be considered canon.
