Family Appearance:

Primary Line:

Males: Males of the Primary line of House Winslough bear the black hair to claim Alt-Regalian ancestry, despite their bright, distinctive green eyes. For the most part, House Winslough members are tall and lithe, making natural hunters and duellists. Winsloughs are known for their agility and quick intellect, not necessarily for their strength.

Females: Females of the Winslough primary line share the raven hair and striking green eyes of their male counterparts, and also tend to be taller and willowy, though this has more exceptions in the women than in the men. Women of House Winslough are as clever as their male counterparts, and some even share their lithe athleticism as well.

Second Line:

Males: Men of the secondary line of House Winslough tend towards heavier set, warrior builds, though the lithe build of the primary line is not unheard of in this line. The thing that sets this line most apart from the primary descendants is their fiery red hair, which they are fiercely proud of.

Females: Females of the Winslough secondary line would be indistinguishable from those of the primary line if not for their fiery red hair. Otherwise, their striking green eyes, and lithe, tall builds bear a marked resemblance to those of their cousins.

Distant Cousins:

Members of more distant lines vary greatly in body type and hair colour, but almost always sport distinctive green eyes.

Family History:

Once a powerful noble house of the ancient Wirtemcaller Kingdom, House Winslough ruled over a significant portion of Hinter Calem on behalf of the Wirtemcaller Kings, one of the important Houses holding a critical position on one of the eastern bays of Hinter Calem. When the Skagger Hordes swept through the Kingdom, House Winslough was driven into their strongholds, staunchly fighting to stem the tides of Skagger foes while none of their neighbors seemed willing to help. When at last the Regalian armies cut their bloody path through the Principality, House Winslough opened their gates gladly to the Empire, submitting to Regalian rule and committing their seasoned pikemen and archers to the Regalian assault on the Skagger Hordes.

Habichtsburg.jpg

With the fall of the Wirtemcaller Kingdom, however, and the loss of any importance to their lands, House Winslough began to lose relevance, and in a very short time became little but a hunting lodge for Regalian nobles to entertain themselves with boar and fox hunts through the wooded highlands of Hinter Calem. In a desperate bid to remain relevant, House Winslough converted wholeheartedly to the Alt-Regalian culture, but remained in a steady decline, losing most of their castles, lands, and wealth. Today, House Winslough only holds some small lands in the coastal mountains of Hinter Calem, where their family's main ancestral stronghold of Habichtsburg still stands, but the family dreams of regaining their prior lands and glory.

It was not until 274 AC when Albert Winslough decided to capitalize on his House's ancestral military tendencies and their creative combined pike and archer tactics to form a powerful and well-organized company of soldiers, which he trained for ten years before signing on to the Regalian army as a mercenary detachment, winning fame and glory in the Chrysant Wars, glory which only accumulated in the later Songaskian Wars. Albert's brother, Leopold I, the Patriarch, seeing Albert's success, decided to also capitalize on the militaristic nature of Regalia by opening smelteries to convert the raw iron available on Winslough lands into steel for the Regalian war machine, a decision which began the slow rebuilding of House Winslough's wealth.

To this day, House Winslough maintains its old tradition of hunting boar and foxes in their forests, and often invite fellow noblemen to join them in the hunting and in the feasting that comes after their hunts. However, their industrial abilities have grown and the House now primarily serves as armorer and trainer for the armies of the Empire.

Family Holdings:

Habichtsburg: The longtime stronghold of House Winslough, Habichtsburg is the last remaining castle in House Winslough's possession. The castle consists of a strong keep nestled in the mountains, with various small towers, turrets, walls, gates, and miniature forts along the winding mountain access road. Long considered impregnable, the impressive array of fortifications protected the family against the Skagger Horde and Vulminer Principality, and has since been renovated to better defend against modern weaponry and tactics.

Habichtsburg Village: The small village in the hills below Habichtsburg, this village gains its wealth from the forges and foundries that provide the wealth of House Winslough, as well as from the touring noblemen and their entourages when they visit for House Winslough's famous hunting expeditions.

Family Values:

House Winslough is an old house with old values. They had been a powerful family long before Regalia was the entity it is today, and they fully intend to rise in the Empire, and, should it inevitably fall, they intend to outlast it. The family is intent on using all of its collective wit and cunning to take back the lands they've lost from falling into obscurity within the Empire, and to further their gains into what they hope to be lordship over all of Hinter Calem.

Cultured and intellectual, the Winsloughs value good conversation and fine company, preferring the company of nobility to those of the less educated classes. Most members of House Winslough enjoy playing games like chess, and matching wits in debates, as much as they enjoy matching blades in duels.
  • Ambitious and cunning, the Winsloughs are always intent on climbing the political ladder, willing to step over any others if need be, though that is not their preference.

  • Loyal and steadfast, the Winsloughs will never betray a friend or abandon them to their fate, knowing the value of allies in their efforts.

  • Disciplined and careful, the Winsloughs operate like a well-oiled machine, especially in situations they are used to, and they are careful to only take risks when they are truly worth the cost.

  • They hold their male members in higher esteem than their female members, though with the prevailing times, they are much looser with the restrictions they place on their women.

  • House Winslough is made up entirely of reverent, if somewhat ambivalent, Sanchelle Unionists.

  • Most members of House Winslough work as generals, mercenaries, trainers, smiths, politicians, and strategists.

  • House Winslough is almost entirely made up of Pro-Military Conservatives.

  • All members of House Winslough are New Regalian in culture. The Main Line is apt to refer to themselves as Alt-Regalian in order to raise their standing in the eyes of other nobles.

  • House Winslough is exclusively Ailor Supremacists, and most other races are considered subordinate, at best.
Family Members:
Main Line (black hair, green eyes)

This line of the family can trace itself directly from the original Dukes from the Kingdom of Wirtemcaller, and they are proud of their military heritage, even though they prefer to be considered Alt-Regalians, and make little mention of their family's descending from the Wirtemcaller Kingdom, preferring to be considered Regalian in entirety.

(Italicized additions married into the family)
  • Leopold I Winslough (67) - The former patriarch of House Winslough, Leopold has recently passed the mantle on to his firstborn son and now merely watches the family and mentors the family members when needed. He is a fairly wise man, with a deep insight into life, and a dry wit that comes with his clever mind for politics and economics. @Greenie
  • Maria Winslough (61) - Deceased.
      • Leopold II Winslough (44) - The previous patriarch, Leopold is a trained warrior and leader, who seems to share his father's wit and intellect, and he is bent on raising his family higher. @OnyxXIII
    • Dorothye Winslough (38) - The wife of Leopold II, loyal and intelligent.@ParisaPax
        • Peter Winslough (25) - Current Family Patriarch. At the age of 25, Peter Winslough committed suicide in a prison cell in Regalia after being accused of treason, August 3rd, 306 AC. @NathanPlayzMC_14
        • Sabine Winslough (21) - The oldest of Leopold IIs twins, Sabine is clever as her father and grandfather, and often enjoys playing pranks on her family. Flayed to Death August 2nd, 306. AC. @katieisdecent
        • Simone Winslough (21) - The younger of Leopold IIs twins, Simone seems to have inherited the tactical mind of her uncle and great uncle, and is training with a private tutor, though she wants to attend a combat or leadership school. @Demotria
      • Sebastian Winslough (35) - The younger brother of Leopold II, Sebastian is very close with his brother. His mind for military tactics and troop movements is practically genius, and his attendance at a leadership academy and tutelage under his uncle have molded him into the perfect general.
      • @CorrosGaming
      • Leon Anton Winslough (33) - Leon has devoted his life to the Spirit since he was a young boy, and has long wished to become a Priest as a member of the Synod. @H0on
      • Elisabeth Winslough (29) - The youngest child of Leopold I, Elisabeth is probably smarter than both her brothers combined. Her close relationship with them has led to her advising both of them on family decisions, life decisions, and in their family chess matches. @Cipherition
    • Albert Winslough (64) - The famous mercenary commander, Albert is now retired, and spends his time at the Winslough fortress, overseeing the training of the House troops and hosting the hunts that nobles from all over the Archipelago still come to Hinter Calem for. @BansheeLord
  • Leana Winslough (59) - The wife of Albert, Leana spends her time with her husband, organizing feasts and relaxing on the family lands.
    • Niko Winslough (38) - The eldest son of Albert Winslough, and the commander of the Winslough House Guards, and a formidable warrior in his own right, Niko is the shield and sword of Leopold and Sebastian. @SpudManDom
    • Markos Winslough (20) - Open to Customization. @Swaki__
    • Lilianne Winlough (30) - The daughter of Albert, Lilianne was never destined to be a normal girl. Trained alongside her brothers, Lilianne was sent to a combat school and is a formidable fighter, often sparring with her siblings. @Maranbella
    • Frederick Winslough (27) - Frederick, unlike his siblings, didn't seem to inherit their father's talent for warfare, instead bearing the quick wit of his great uncle Leopold, and his appetite for politics is insatiable. Due to this difference, he prefers his cousins to his siblings. @_JayP_
    • Alister Winslough (25) - Open to Customization. @Nano_Kay

    • Mary Winslough (26) - The wife of Frederick, Mary is entirely customisable. @IGutTheMidasTuch
      • Augustus Winslough (4) - The son of Mary and Frederick, Augustus is a quick learner, and pretty clever.
    • Samuel Gray (35) - @FlemishSupremacy - The bastard son of Albert from one of his campaigns, Sam was raised among the Winslough levies and learned combat, but upon reaching adulthood he was sent to Regalia to fend for himself. This turn of fate led him to drinking and gambling, and he turned to crime to feed his debauchery. @FlemishSupremacy
Secondary Line (Red hair, green eyes)

This branch of the House is descended from the brother of a Winslough lord three generations back, who remain loyal to House Winslough, and are closest to the succession after members of the first line.

  • Ferdinand Winslough-Süttner (63) - Ferdinand was the orphaned son of a Winslough mother and a father from the small - now extinct - House Süttner. He was raised at Habichtsburg, and he adopted his mother's famliy name, attached to his own, to show his new loyalty to House Winslough. He is a fairly carefree man, who delights in matching wits at board games and debates with his distant cousin Leopold I, and his other relatives.

  • Sarah Winslough-Süttner (60) - Open to customization.
    • Fritz Winslough-Süttner (37) - Fritz is an avid swordsman and duellist, and has trained nearly all his life to become a champion of tourneys and duels. He is a bit arrogant about his skills, but this arrogance is well-deserved.
      • Anne Winslough-Süttner (30) - Practically Fritz' twin, Anne is also an avid duellist and somewhat arrogant about it.

      • Karoline Winslough-Süttner (27) - Karoline's head for numbers is matched only by her charisma and her appetite for men and women. She serves the family as the salesman and dealmaker for the forge businesses, taking charge of ensuring profitable sales to the Regalian military and any noble houses or mercenary companies who might want to take advantage of superior Winslough steel. @Puagrace

      • OPEN TO CHARACTER CREATION.

Distant Cousins (Hair color varies, but eye color is almost always vibrant green)

These distant cousins can trace lineage back to the House from various brothers, sisters, and other relatives who diverged from the family tree, but wish to return to the House and serve its Patriarch as loyally as if they were close relatives.

  • OPEN TO CHARACTER CREATION.

Terribly sorry to say that House Winslough is no longer accepting new members for the time being. Upon being ejected from nobility this House has gone extremely inactive. Most have shelved their characters and sent them back to Habichtsburg, or left the family to continue Roleplaying in Regalia. I'll be sure to let you know if Winslough ever decides to make a comeback. But for the time being I regret to say I am closing this thread to recruitment.

@Demotria

Upon that note. House Winslough is CLOSING Family, Guard, Smith, and House Staff Recruitment for the time being.

Sorry guys!

House Winslough is now OPEN for RECRUITMENT of Family Members, Guards, Servants, and House Staff!

House Winslough is CLOSING RECRUITMENT of Family Members, Guards, Smiths, and House Staff.

I'm also stepping away from House Winslough, and will no longer be leading the House. It seems to have gone inactive. Though if another Winslough wishes to continue and take the reigns of the House then they may. And it will be their responsibility to create another thread for House Winslough, or watch and reply on this one.
