    House Description

House Spathous is an emerging Etosian Family from the homeland of Etosil. Recently cutting their way to the top from lesser nobility. The family’s major trade is the exporting of olive oil, and candle making. While typically isolationists, when not further educating themselves or fighting a war; the main host has decided to immigrate to the Crown Isle after Imperialization to further their political goals.

    History Synopsis

The origins of House Spathous go back to the First Schism of Unionism. Pre-Schism, the original Spathous were common men of no renown living in the Crown Isle of Regalia. After the Schism, the early Spathous family members aligned with the Evintarians and were similarly exiled to the island of Etosil with the heretical sect of Unionist Reverends. The first notable Spathous was “Parísi to spathí '' or Paris the Sword. He was famed as an early commander of the church who led religious militia men against the Island’s exiles and bandits. His valor earned him the moniker “The Sword,” and a prominent position in the local city state’s garrison. His glory would trickle down the generations, the rest of his descendants taking his name, Spathous.

In 128 A.C. Vladimer Kade’s invasion of Etosil had begun, and with it two prominent Spathous saw their claim to fame. The brothers Diomedes and Androkles, who were in the clergy and garrison of the city-state, respectively hatched a scheme. Diomedes used his sway in the clergy to convince the local ruler to vassalize under the Empire, rather than fight a siege. Once that had taken place, Aias led the city-state’s army into battle alongside the Regalians. For Androkle’s contribution during the invasion, he was ennobled. He was granted a fief, and had his family’s legacy formalized into the island. Here, the family was given lands which had a large amount of olive farms. Philomena the I aided in maintaining the olive farm, keeping the family in consistent trade. In 169 AC, the undead rose from the mountains and started to attack the local population. The border of House Spathous’s lands suffered for a while, but Adrokles, son of Aias, ordered a quick militia to take care of the threat. After the outbreak of undead was pushed back, order was once more preserved within the family and its neighboring lands.

The Spathous family remained as low nobility in Etosil for generations. In the early 200s, until the reign of Christosphoros Spathous II, the current house head. Christophoros inherited the patriarchy from his father Theodoros, who had passed of an illness in the winter of 308 A.C. Before Christosphoros’s reign pushed forth, House Spathous lived as one of the local lords of Etosil. The current generation of the family lived within a villa until Christosphoros sought more for the family. Christosphoros had seen an opening in the Regalian Archipelago, and seized the initiative. Through an underhanded source of intrigue and diplomacy, Christosphoros secured a claim on a duchy in the main isles and pressed his claim during the decline of other notable houses. He abdicated his land in Etosil and moved the family to the Archipelago.

    Reason for applying:
I'm hoping to find a way to connect with my friends in roleplay through a family. I'd also like to approach the noble system with a more eccentric and excitable character than I did previously, and a character I'm more comfortable with.

    • Character Sex & Age: Female, 27

    • Character Appearance: Black curly hair, brown eyes, dark brown skin, 5'7", heavy-set, wearing Néa Epochí style.
    • Character Background & Skillset: Born as a child of Dorothea and Theodoros, Magda was raised as a craftswoman to continue the family trade. She took after her role in the family rather quickly, and found herself more intrigued by financial manners than that of combat or commanding. Interestingly enough, she found herself intrigued by alchemy later in life, and pursued an education in the sciences. Other than that, she keeps up with current fashions and spends much of her company on the successful, albeit small trade company she holds in her homeland. More recently, after establishing herself as an alchemist, candle maker, and olive oil maker by trade, she has pursued education in archaeology and linguistics, curious with her own history, and that of others as well. Additionally, in an effort to stay fit, despite her general disposition towards craftiness, she has taken up swordsmanship, with the addition of a shield.
