Intro
Hailing from the sparsely populated forests of Lloriesta, house Ruden developed almost in complete isolation and only recently joined the Regalian empire. Since then, steady trade and immigration have increased both the wealth and power of the house. This has changed the once humble house but the Rudens hold to their roots and remain fervent followers of the old gods.
Traditions
Duty plays a central role in the affairs of the Rudens, more so than in other families.
In the Ruden family one maintains self-respect, not by choosing what is good rather than what is evil, but by choosing what is expected of one. The old gods expect worship, family demands glory and society expects decency. Actions that allow to fulfill one's duty are acceptable although not necessarily good or desirable for an individual. In fact the Rudens often find themselves troubled by the contradiction of what duty demands and what they want or consider good.

It is the belief of the Rudens that the old gods communicate with individuals that perform the correct rituals and sacrifices. This personal communication with the old gods is important in the family and divination rituals are always made when difficult decisions need to be made.
A particular element in the culture of the Rudens is the practice of longhouse kinship. Several generations live under the same roof and children born in the longhouse are considered kin and raised by all members of the family. Family members establish relationships outside the family but do not marry.
