"Do you know who you are, boy? Do you know who you come from? You, are a Kostolansky. You bear a name that drips with blood. A name that strikes fear into beast, pagan, and reprobate alike. These halls you live in, that food you feast on- a generation ago, it was not ours. Ours were the humble homes of the village smallfolk. Ours were exhaustive days and nights of hunger without solace. We lived as dogs once, begging for the scraps of the boyars. They walked these halls, leeching off of our hard work, hoarding their gold and possessions like the she-dragons of old. But those days are no more. Their heads rot on the pikes. All of them. And what once belonged to them, is now our's. With fire and blood, boy; that is the way of a Kostolansky."

Samosokhraneniye [Self-Preservation]
Every house maintains its own retinue of personal guards, but generations of hard times and empty treasuries have forced adaptation. While bandits, beasts, pagans, and demons stalk the forests of Svetlost, the Kostolansky have become accustomed to arming themselves to the teeth. The tradition of carrying arms has carried on even with the slow immigration of the family to Regalia, forsaking a house guard to simply defend themselves. All males, and even the females, are heavily encouraged to train themselves in some sort of weapon, even if they do not expect to see battle in their lifetime.
Solidarnost [Solidarity]
Vladno are resistant to culture change. The Kostolansky are doubly so. It took two hundred years after their first arrival onto Regalian soil for the House to accept conversion to Sancellist Unionism. Today, the House maintains a number of stances, written down in matching tomes kept in the Palace Basilica. The Kostolansky take a vicious stance against Ithanians and Allar, and harbor dislike for Qadir, Allar, and Daens. Most patriarchs only tentatively permit romantic relations with Regalisch and Anglian folk for their kin, preferring that Vladno marry Vladno above all.
Krovnyy Zakon [The Blood Law]
The Blood Law is in actuality two traditions melded into one. First, all who call themselves Kostolansky must endeavor to solve their legal arguments not through the court but through a duel to first blood. Lawyers, they believe, have a useless profession, and prefer to skip all the bureaucracy that comes with a Regalian lawsuit. Second, the Kostolansky are loyal to their name. They might not agree with the reigning patriarch, but no man or woman would attempt to sabotage their own house for their own personal gain. To do so is near unthinkable.
The Ancestral Bones
When a Kostolansky dies, it is custom for the corpse to be removed to the summit of Mount Iremel to be picked clean by the buzzards. The now meatless bones are then returned back to Novyy Lezhaysk and cleaned before being inlaid and gilded with the finest gems and gold House Kostolansky has to offer. It is an ostentatious affair that stands as a stark contrast to their humbler lifestyle. Unfortunately, many of the decorated bones have been stolen over the years, pilfered either for their value or for more nefarious deeds, leading to the ancestral crypts of Lezhaysk to become a stronghold second only to the Palace Basilica

Rings of Mirnoye
These Vladno of Svetlost have not forgotten their past. Through myths and legends they remember that they were born in a land that is now alien and foreign to nearly all civilized folk. When they immigrated from that land of Mirnoye, they brought with them plows and axes forged from the finest blacksteel. While most of these tools were lost to time, a number were melted down and remade into rings inlaid with the intricate patterns of their homeland. Dozens of these rings are now in Kostolansky possession, and it has become tradition for all family members to wear one of these rings, so that they might remember where they came from.
