Scribbed by the Hand of Johann Buchanann, Curate of the Sancella in Regalia
Spirit's peace and benediction to all who walk in the will of the Spirit and the glory of the Empire.
I intend to keep this as a lax and to a degree informal response towards the recent Proclamation of Her Eminence the Lord Chancellor Peirgarten. I wish to keep this devoid of political intrigue or implication as that is not the intent of the Synod, nor do we wish to interfere with this fragile process of the Empire. Personally I hold a degree of respect to the Lord Chancellor for some actions she has done in her tenure, but I do wish to clarify a few points as are implied from her address.
Firstly, the Synod has recently conducted a Diet in which the Lord Chancellor had passed through her husband to a reverend that she wished for Synod support. To stand with her amidst the growing rejection of her rule. In return for this we were led to believe that we would receive a 'military based charter' implied to replace the Inquisition which had fallen under the structure of the Violet Order.
We voted to reject this offer, not with intent of malice, but simply that we do not require such a charter and anonymously agreed that to accept such an offer would hemorrhage the State coffers even further than the current amount from the lack of taxes being delivered. We the Synod felt that it would be in poor taste to accept on those grounds and the grounds that we do not need a military institution. We trust in the good work of the Violet Order and an additional charter for a similar purpose would be a poor use of resources in this present time.
Secondly, on the grounds of neglect of donations to the State, we were under the impression that this is a free will donation based on if we feel that the State is performing well. Additionally, given that the State was giving donations to the Synod it created an ironic paradox where if we donate back to the State with the donations from the State we end up circling around where the funds don't mean anything to each other. As it stands for the course of my tenure, the Synod has appreciated the donations from the State and have used them to expand the Unionist church, the Archrevery of the Ascension thanks the State in that regard as its formation couldn't be done without them.
But on that note I have not felt the need to return a donation to the State. Anything less than the 10,000 regals would be viewed as questionable to myself. And in addition to that, the State has never offered anything to the Synod or the Unionist faith that we feel is in need of reward or acknowledge. Just as the various regions of the archipelago pay and withhold taxes for their support or lack there of for the State, so to does the Synod. However, I wish to clarify that we do not object to the State, nor do we support it. The State is in essence static in the eyes of the Synod. In no place for praise and in no place for rejection. And wishing to uphold our honest image the Synod will continue to not donate funds to the State for that reasons.
The State may continue to withhold their Synod donations as we know this is a difficult financial situation, but the Synod will not respond to the States request given that the State has only begun to reach out to the Synod once everyone has turned away from it. We will not act as a political wild card to salvage the State, but we pray for its security and to be brought back to structure.
Thirdly, as High Reverend I respectfully decline to meet with the Lord Chancellor. For reasons listed above I do not feel that we will come to an agreement, specifically for the point above this one. That the State has never looked for a relationship with the Synod until this recent political turmoil and we feel that this is disingenuous. If the Lord Chancellor requires religious guidance in this time the Synod will provide it, but providing any degree of funding or support to a passive State we simply cannot do. I offer my deepest sympathies and prayers to the Lord Chancellor and the State.
To the Unionist congregation I ask you to find strength within your faith in this difficult time. We have cycled through governments that have succeeded and fallen time and again. If anyone finds themselves in need of spiritual guidance in this present turmoil the Synod will provide. Only through our Unionist faith will we persevere. And at times all we can do is step away so that things may repair themselves.
Oratario Ode
His High Holiness Henri I
High Reverend of the Synod
Reverend of the Sancella in Ragulia
