OOC: Knowledge of this battle become active lore one hour ago due to the preemptive strike by the Qadir force predating the Friday battle rolls. The fourth army's battle will be posted tomorrow and become active lore 24:00 PST that same day.
The army led by Ludwig Fuchs dug in at the castle of Watif Esballah and awaited reinforcements from the fifth army by von Treppewitz. Unfortunately for the Regalian troops, the Qadir army led by Basrallah Dulliallahd used scouts to sabotage the movement of the fifth army to delay their arrival and force a direct assault on Watif by themselves. The Regalians were outnumbered 5000 versus 8000, as well as the castle being in a severe state of disrepair. Tristan Lampero was mounted on the main gatehouse while Leah Kade protected the right section and Ludwig Fuchs the left section. The defenders of the castle had to fight valiantly, for they knew a loss would result in utter destruction of the third army, and the lives of hundreds of wounded Regalian levies lay in the hands of their officers. The battle proceeded with the Qadir spreading their numbers out over 5 sections, so as to overwhelm the flanks of Lampero's force while keeping him busy with a smaller force. This tactic was largely effective as Leah Kade and Ludwig Fuchs were defeated, though only just barely.
Ludwig's side was outflanked by the vanguard that was able to scale the wall besides them, as they did not have enough troops to support the battlements. With the push from the side and the front, Ludwig eventually called for a steady retreat to the central column while allowing the weary troops to retreat to the inner citadel. Ludwig lost two of his retainers in the fighting here, one of Kamal Vilamorta's wind spells backfired when an enemy Qadir wind mage funneled the air back to him and he was launched off the wall onto a building down below breaking a few ribs and knocking him out. Eamon Ó Loinsigh also received a round, having an arrow penetrate his shoulder before being carried off the wall to the keep. Emrik Ebonhelm did not distinguish himself particularly strongly, being just average. By far, Ludwig himself outshone all his retainers on the wall, even his tactician Piero di Orazio's tactics.
Leah fared similarly. Her troops were quickly outflanked and she called for the retreat of the soldiers, sending the mage retainer Malik Sabah away first with a minor cut on his forearm. Jeruad Ithildin-Drossier was stabbed with a spear in the stomach, quickly being hurried off the wall by fellow soldiers as Leah and Charles Handorian together with a handful of loyal Kade bannermen held the advance of the Qadir down by just the twenty of them. The Kade soldiers died one by one but Charles and Leah distinguished themselves as extraordinary fighters as the soldiers behind them orderly retreated the wounded. If it wasn't for the retreat that she sounded earlier, the performance of those two might have actually been enough to route the Qadir troops on fear alone, however she chose to salvage the lives of her troops.
Tristan Lampero's central column however faced trouble from three sides now. With the flanks successfully retreated to the keep, he alone fought a sizeable force outnumbering him Kemion Alvaris's lack in tactical skill similarly to Neil Black's proved to be of no assistance, the central column relying purely on bravery and skill to hold the gatehouse. If the gatehouse was to be lost, the castle could fall and everyone inside would be in serious trouble. Luckily, Tristan managed to rally the troops and only just secure victory at a very costly manner. Cedric Kade held the left side by himself with some Kade troops battering the weary Qadir that had come from the fight with Ludwig, and Roklah and Ook Irongmonger helf the right side by themselves with some Kade troops and the occasional orcs battering the weary Qadir that came from the fight with Leah. Tristan faced the ladders alone with his Lampero troops, kicking them down occasionally and knocking Qadir off the walls as they went. At the end of the battle, the retainers were all pushed up against each other having lost nearly half their troops, but the battle was won and the siege was broken.
As a sudden sunny break of a stormy day, the army of von Treppewitz arrived at afternoon. The military commanders in the fort decided to rally out so as to pincer the Qadir troops between them, and as such the wounded were left behind and the weary soldiers marched out. With von Treppewitz's fresh troops and the battered Qadir in the middle, the Regalian troops led by Leah Kade, Tristan Lampero and Ludwig Fuchs were to act as a hammer to an anvil. Unfortunately, the battle quickly disintegrated into a complete mess due to an unfortunate casualty. As Basrallah Dulliallahd came charging on horseback for Tristan, Cedric Kade stepped in the way attempting to halt the charge. As the horse reared, it kicked the prince in the chest briefly before the Qadir commander descended, sending the prince flying back into the dirt. Leah Kade and Tristan Lampero immediately abandoned their commanding positions, Tristan picked up the bloody mangled body of the prince who was unable to breathe and raced back to the castle where the healers and doctors were while Leah attempted to defeat the Qadir who went into persuit smelling the death of an Imperial on their heels. It is safe to say Tristan thus did not participate in the battle, or very little, and Leah Kade received several cuts before retreating as well. Ludwig Fuchs then challenged Basrallah Dulliallahd in one to one combat, which he accepted as the battle raged around them. Unable to control the troops around them, the Castle troops became disorderly and more people fell wounded. Roklah Ironmonger had a sword smash into his jawline, which was luckily made of iron, but dazed him enough to knock him out of the battle. Charles Handorian also received a cut on his arm, retreating. Ook Ironmonger and Emrik Ebonhelm were eventually the only retainers left on the field next to Ludwig, who performed averagely and at least tried to keep the troops together while Ludwig was engaged with Basrallah. The fight between Basrallah and Ludwig was long and hard on both, Basrallah was clearly the much better fighter. Ludwig gained some upper footing however when he managed to evade Basrallah's strike and slash him from behind. As opposed to fighting the duel to the end, Basrallah chose to flee on horseback. The flight of their commander caused the Qadir army to stand down, ending a battle that was unnecessarily costly though resulted in the entire destruction of the Qadir army that had been sent against them.
Back in Regalia the court presented its pleasure for the victory on the Qadir army and congratulated Leah Kade, Charles Handorian and Ludwig Fuchs in particular for their performance in battle. Tristan Lampero received mixed reviews, praised for holding the fort, but utterly criticized for allowing such harm to befall the Imperial Prince, which by far overshadowed the battle. The third army and fifth army were merged and marched north by von Treppewitz's orders. He returned to Regalia to resume command of the sixth army while Ludwig Fuchs was given command over the now replenished third army. Ludwig Fuchs had achieved his first goal during the war, and eradicated 2 armies in doing so. The military campaign against Osmanli appeared brighter than assumed, though it was known that Saruhanna was mobilizing its troops and the Hadravian state was being exceptionally slow with its own support troops.
