    Personality and Abilities
    I. An old, weathered man who has seen the sun in a hundred lands, Guillaume d’Goss still retains much of the imposing build he had in his prime, even if the golden-brown of his hair has aged to a fine white. Fellow humans could see him as a sort of father figure, strict on the table-manners though rather at ease in conversation. Race-foreigners could see him as the living embodiment of the old days, a elderly champion of Ailor supremacy and authoritarian tradition. Though he was brought up to observe the strictest sets of court etiquette, in his advanced age he has relaxed considerably.

II. Guillaume d’Goss is a man conflicted between want and duty. He is not the man he was forty years ago. The strength he had in his prime has slowly waned throughout the decades. He wants nothing more than to rest on his laurels. But, he knows that though he may be old the world still turns on, and he still has duties to perform, both to his house and to his knightly brothers. Glory and fortune are still out there for the taking, if only Guillaume could get his old bones to reach out for them.

III. Being an Ithanian, Guillaume harbors a special brotherhood with his fellow man. To his blood-brothers of d’Goss, undying love and loyalty. To his knight-brothers in the Lion Pelt, undying respect and affection. Women of all classes, he believes, should be birds put in cages; admired for their beauty but under close watch for their own sake, lest they hurt themselves. Foreigners and beast-men are met with the traditional suspicion sported by Ailor, but he does harbor a secret liking towards Cielothar.

IV. Liberté, égalité, fraternité. Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. Guillaume is a strong believer in the Princois Decelles, though obviously with a masculine touch to them. Though he has spent much of his life chasing fortune after fortune, he has empathy for the struggle of his fellow man, and believes strongly in the spirit of brotherhood. To Guillaume, honor and loyalty come above all else, which places him in the area of Lawful Neutral.

    Lifestory
Guillaume was born to Jean-Roch and Josephine d’Goss on 244 AC, in Basta’s Saint Lumiere. As a third son, Guillaume was not meant to become a leader, as that privilege belonging to firstborns alone. His life was to be spent productively in other fields. Nevertheless, the aristocratic upbringing that Guillaume was blessed with was regimented and disciplined, with faith in the Church and loyalty to de Gosselin beat into him day after day after day.

He did receive an education, though it seemed everything was gently prodding him towards life as a knight. Lessons on etiquette, on manners, on swordsmanship and poetry. Teachings on the superiority of his race and their specific strain of the Ithanian culture. Lecture after lecture after lecture on what it means to be a cultured man, a man of honor. All of it was drilled into his mind ever since he could open his eyes. He was shaping up to be the perfect example of a d’Goss man. He was almost sent off to Cairanthais for beomce a Villiers-Eclaire, as many of his relatives ended up doing. But he wasn’t.

It turns out Guillaume wasn’t very good at swordwork. Awful at it, in fact. And the heavyset youth wasn’t very good at horse riding either, leaving a trail of near-crushed ponies in his wake. These facts and his flair for the ostentatiously extravagant (unusually extravagant even among Ithanians) lead weary old Jean-Roch to send his fourteen-year-old boy not to Cairanthais, but to Carrois du Lion, home of the Knights of the Lion Pelt.

A wise decision, as Guillaume proved himself to be especially gifted with hitting things really hard with a glorified axe. Exposure to the Leutz-Vixe world and their cross cultural ways enlightened him with an appreciation for those (lesser) people who were not of his own traditions. Squiring to the glory-hound Emmanuel de la Montagne did wonders in instilling within him a thirst for his own fame and fortune. Especially fortune. Ten years after his entrance into the castle, Guillaume was knighted. Bearing bardiche and the blessing of his glory seeking tutor, he set off to make his mark.

Unfortunately, Guillaume was getting his start just in the beginnings of the Regalian Pessimism. The golden age that was Regalia’s first expansion had ended, and the repercussions of trying to rule such a large swath of territory were beginning to rear their ugly heads. Guillaume’s first employers were the Sherburnes, who were very busy in Dragenthal taxing anything who dared to breathe down to the last regal. By the end of 271, he was well enveloped in the conflict that engulfed the province, and by the 15 of December, he helped in the execution of the rebellious barons and the destruction of their holdings.

Guillaume was loyal to the Sherburnes even up until their coffers dried, even when the Imperial army was betrayed and every survivor was put onto their knees. He was loyal up until their deaths, and then he was loyal no more. In the aftermath of the Crisis, Guillaume returned to Basta, where he sought respite (and employment) in the relatively bloodless conflicts spurred on by de Gosselin. At least those could be relied upon to not result in provincial apocalypse. Guillaume moped on there for a number of years before Moriarty Kade’s ascension to the Chancellory, and by association the eventual end of the Pessimism.

Guillaume participated in more than a few campaigns since then. He participated in the Ranger Crisis, both Songaskian Wars, and the Elven War of 302. It is pertinent to note that he never did participate directly; he served as the Life Guard to the nobles that did, or at least those that pretended they did. He did perform admirably, and developed a reputation for a watchful eye, though his bardiche remained relatively bloodless despite being near very bloody conflicts. He was not present for either occupation, neither Songaskian nor Lo, occupied with work with de Gosselin during that time. It also goes without saying he was present for the Bone Horror Crisis, considering the Crisis was practically everywhere.

Today, Guillaume grows old and weary of Basta. Despite being on Aloria for near sixty-three years, his time in the Holy City has been very limited, having seen the metropolis only twice; once as a child with his father, and once with a wealthy business client. Still bearing his eternal allegiances to de Gosselin and d’Goss, he makes his way east, where he hopes to find some final adventures before the Eternal Adventure.
