Hi everyone, it's me again... Lamdax, if you didn't know. Well you would know, since there's a big picture - never mind.

I come bearing gifts of fresh air to encourage all you RPers out there to play some of the lesser known races.
I was looking through the approved characters section for Thylans, and I found a total of 3, including mine. One of them was probably inactive, as I haven't seen them around. That could just be my timezone, though.

However, my point is that most people play the mainstream races like Ailor and stuff. Instead, you can be cool and hip like me and play a Thylan.

Imagine the possibities! Do you ever feel like having your arms and legs removed for holding a fork? Do you ever want people to call you a rug and have you arrested for existing? Do you ever want to enjoy extreme racism and prejudice? Of course you do!

So come on down to Thylans Incorporated (trademark symbol) - also known as the Peer Review section - so that I can publicly denounce you and call it constructive criticism!

I would totes have a Thylan character if I had the time.

Hear that, people? Our great king and emperor @MonMarty deems Thylans unworthy enough to play!

What more incentive do you need?

The thing is, a lot of people start with the more interesting races, but they all get very similar reactions from people in Regalia. Since that is the roleplay capital, it's kind of hard to try something different as an interesting race, where as the mainstream can be much more diverse.

I wouldn't say Ailors are mainstream. Ailors are the most common race in Aloria, so they are supposed to be many of.

@MatZ598

Obviously, I joke. I would just like there to be more than 2 active approved Thylans, along with about 3 unapproved Thylans who have no idea what they're doing.

In my opinion, Ailors are great, but y'know...

Thylans are way better.

I want to play a race like that, but I need to kill off every character I have in existence. Because I have seven

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh

Stop complaining.

A teenage bisexual elven boy raised by Yanar is not exactly common.

As you can see, you're all not as up to trend as I am.

If you were, we'd have a lot more Thylans, but by then there will be a new trend, because Thylans would be too mainstream then.

There aren't nearly as many Tigrans as there should be. Everyone wants to be a lil kleinfolk. Be a cool Tigran like me and @Tra_kad !

Reminds me of the Maiars. I remember when there were only 3 approved applications for them. It made them that much cooler, since I dislike being a part of the majority.
I might look into the Thylans a bit more now. My interest has been sparked.

@Laach

No, I am not an expert (if I am, then I don't have the authority to decide whether or not I am). But, I guess I'm as close as you can get without contacting staff.
Thylans came out in the 7th March, 2014 (or, at least, the wiki seems to think that's when the page was released). I got my Thylan character written by the 29th April, 2014, and approved by the 2nd of May, 2014. I was the first approved Thylan ever. I have written a Write Me Lore page that was considered by Ryciera, but I don't know what's happened with it currently. I made a Thylan language with over 1000 words. If you think that makes me worthy enough to distribute information, then by all means, keep reading, but I am not Lore Staff, so don't take what I say as fact.
( Be aware that some of this I have deduced based on the given information and how Thylans are currently. Example being that they are based off of Australian Aboriginals, based on my knowledge of Australian history I believe I can draw this conclusion from it. )

General facts:
  • Thylans used to be smaller than Dwarves, but this was changed rather quickly, so they are now the height of Ailor.
  • Thylans used to be based off of Thylacines, or Tasmanian Devils. This animal is not part of the Canine genus, so as such cannot be a dog of any kind. This was confusing to some people, so they were changed so they are now based on wolves. They may have been changed back, as the wiki says they are humanoid Thylacines. To be safe, go with wolves.
  • They reach around 80 years of age, if I recall correctly.
  • Their fur colour can range from light brown to a mahogany colour, with the very rare albino.
General knowledge:

Thylans are very spiritual creatures, believing in a God they call 'Biyanga Burra' (Father of Sky). They do not worship him, however, but instead thank him for what he has done. If you need more insight on this, Google Australian dreamtime stories. Biyanga Burra made the land, sky, sea, everything. The Thylans are thankful to him, and they share a sort of mutual respect. Thylans believe their dead return to the spirit plane, and can be seen at the northern lights. Thylans find their catacombs very sacred.
Thylans are generally peaceful - except to Urs (their sworn enemy!). Thylans enjoy music very much, with their favourite instrument being the Didgeridoo (another reason to suggest they are based on aboriginals). They are very social and accepting of most, if not all other races (bar Ur). Thylans also have no written language - instead relying on cave paintings and word of mouth to distribute their creation stories.
Thylans live in Jorrhildr - a frosty tundra. There is probably limited vegetation, a lot of snow, a few mountains here and there, more snow, a few trees (maybe), and snow.

Pros:
  • If you meet another Thylan, chances are 10:1 that you will become friends with them immediately. Extremely social, Thylans will always band together.
  • A unique outlook on life - thankful for everything, even your enemies.
  • Usually very fit and skillful (having to live in a Tundra takes it's toll).
  • Can be menacing if needed. A lot of nobles are scared of Thylans.
  • Fun to play as! :D
Cons:
  • Ailor and other Human races are racist toward Thylans. Crimes are more easily committed as you are a Thylan. You get blamed more easily.
  • Hard to get support from high-ranking people like nobles - they are generally scared of you or hate you.
  • You can't read! Enjoy!
  • Not much support for Thylan lore at the moment. Lore staff are generally focused on other things.
If you need any more stuff just let me know! I'll be happy to help out in any way I can.

I tried to push a rewrite a while ago and it got rejected. It feature three new subraces seperating the Thylacine branch from the wolves to make it more clear. Thylacine share adaptions like canidae but are not concidered canidae.

Thanks @Lamdax, this is going to help a lot. You make it a lot more clear than the Wiki article's do. I wish there was a personal summary of the other races like the one you gave me...
I might make a Thylan OC. I was planning on making a third roleplay character anyway, so this might be fun.
