"Time slips away like grains of sand never to return again." Robin Sharma
One second...
Two seconds...
Three seconds...
"Is she home yet?" a child's voice asked, stark and bold against the gentle pattering of the rain.
"Not yet bud. She'll be home soon." a somewhat deeper voice replied, though it still seemed to be childish. He ruffled the child's ginger curls and they both turned their gaze to the window, watching the rain slide down the glass.
Seventeen seconds...
Eighteen seconds...
Nineteen seconds...
The ginger child lay a hand against cool glass, letting his finger trace the raindrops as they fell.
"She's been gone nine hundred and seventy two seconds, she promised she'd be back by five hundred.." he sighed, dropping his hand back to his side. The teen wrapped his arm around the boys shoulders, "I know, but maybe she didn't want to walk back in the rain so took shelter for a while."
Twenty three seconds...
Twent four seconds...
Twenty five seconds...
"Ma would never do that. When the bell rings six times, count five hundred seconds and I'll be home! That's what she always says." the child shrugged of his brothers hand and stood up, going to move towards the door.
"Milo don't you dare leave this house to go looking for her. She'll be home when she's home." the teen stood, going to step towards Milo and pull him back towards the window.
Thirty six seconds...
Thirty seven seconds...
Thirty eight seconds...
Milo followed him back, sitting back down by the window. "Sorry Ant. I won't go looking for her. She's just been gone longer than five hundred and she's never longer than five hundred!"
Forty two seconds...
Forty three seconds...
Forty four seconds...
A man shook himself away, the gentle sound of rain hitting glass filling his ears. He pushed himself up from his bed and made his way to the window, laying a hand on the glass.
Fifty seven seconds...
Fifty eight seconds...
Fifty nine seconds...
"You've been gone longer than five hundred seconds Ma." he traced one of the raindrops with his finger, a small smile on his lips. "Maybe one day you'll come home and tell me why."
Sixty seconds...
