((This is a non-lore compliant story based in some Massivecraft lore. It is purely meant for fun.))
Having traveled passed known Aloria, beyond Sendras, the S.S. Dachsil finally arrived in a strange land. Throughout their journey, the air around them seemed to get thicker. The air became more muggy, and it slowly got harder and harder to breathe. Each member of the crew reported feeling clammy and ill.
As the air continued to thicken, strange flying creatures seemed to have appeared. They seemed much too large and bulky to be able to fly. However, once reaching the new land, the explorers set foot on a place completely alien. The crew felt heavier. Each step was hard to take. It was as if the gravity had gotten stronger. They had noticed this a bit, as well when they were traveling. Some members collapsed under their own weight, such as the orcs and urls. The dwarves, with their stocky frame and shorter legs faired the best. What was this place?
The shores quickly gave way to a massively tall forest. The trees were at least 6 feet around at the trunk, with extremely thick bases to support their weight. At the tops of the trees lay not branches, but instead bulbous structures. These structures were covered in very dark leaves. The purpose of these bulbous tops was speculated by the scholars on board. Some believed that they developed to keep the center of balance in the middle, balancing out the wide base.
As they traveled inland, the light disappeared. The canopy kept most light from reaching the bottom. Strange flashing lights came around the adventuring band. But these were not fireflies. The lights were shaped in linear patterns on the creature's abdomen. The flashes of light revealed not an insect, but instead something completely foreign. The creature was built like a mammal, with sturdy hind legs, but was covered in what could only be described as feathers, yet it did not have wings. The creature clung to the bark of the trees. The lights did not stay on for long enough to get a better look, and not even the bravest amongst the band were willing to get closer. However, some of the explorers claimed that the creature had 4 sets of limbs.
The terrain got steeper and steeper, until the forest had finally ended. The terrain continued upward, until reaching a peak of sorts. On one side of the peak sat what seemed to be a bed of water, tinted an off-color. The "mountains" they thought they had been climbing up turned out to, instead, be a massive crater. The crated was at least 500 yards in diameter. However, with the thick air, the other end seemed to blur into a haze. Looking back overtop of the forest, the trees' bulbs had their purpose revealed. They collected water. Inside the hollow bulbs were small ponds that had unique plants growing in them, ranging from wildly shaped flowers to lily pad like structures. The ponds seemed to form a unique ecosystem, and the trees and the ponds' residents seemed to live in harmony. The trees were given the name "Basin Trees" after their signature water basins.
Other strange plants also grew out of the forest. Most notable of which being that which was dubbed the "Balloon Plant". This plant acted as a living airship, floating high above the ground, with a height rivaling and exceeding that of the Basin Tree. They were hollow on the inside, and likely filled with a gas. This would likely be the agent that makes them float, with the thick atmosphere. The Balloon Plants were each tethered to the ground by a set of vines. They would likely float away if it were not for these vines.
The explorers set off for the lake in the crater's center, thinking themselves ready for what they were about to find...
TO BE CONTINUED... (Probably later this afternoon/evening)
