- The slice of industrial empire Edmund Hawthorn raised in Rosendale is tarnished in bankruptcy, scandal, and death. Despite such failures, this does not keep his son and sole surviving heir, Everett Hawthorn, from being his greatest disappointment. Though possessing every skill one should have as a product of a house prided on its Steamtech shipwright engineering, this self-acclaimed poet insists on wasting his hours in creative lament for the disgraceful rebellion of fancying himself as a playwright instead. For the young master's shortcomings in appropriately adopting his father's expectations, he has consequently earned himself an arranged marriage to one of the brood spawn of red-blooded House Adamvosky so that he may just yet contribute to Hawthorn's revival of wealth. Such troublesome circumstances shall only invigorate our dearest dejected Everett's penning hand, for his favored muse is misery.

- Slender, for who needs muscle when father hires it all, and pale, for who does the sun shine upon in cloudy Rosendale, Everett Hawthorn is a perfectly typical specimen of isolation and affluence. He is most separable from every other morose Cearden gentleman by what local elders call "ink smudges" over his eyelids and the three (no more and no less) beauty-marks pinned across his countenance.

∘ Technology Hobby - There wasn't one tiresome day that Everett's studies did not orbit his father's vocation in shipwright engineering. By meticulous design, he learned exactly what a Hawthorn heir would need to; harnessing powers of the preferred methods of Steamtech - among a secondary grasp on Gothitech for respect of his city's native Wirtem roots. Perhaps these teachings will someday be of unexpected use.

∘ Soon-to-be-Adamovsky | O, to be in sacred union with a beloved! Alas, the engagement between Everett Hawthorn and his betrothed Evelina Adamovsky is as much of a heartless obligation for one as it is for the other. Assuming that proof of his family's insolvencies do not reach certain red eyes, this anticipated groom may acquire the expanded enterprise his father is transacting him for.
∘ Well Advised | One would not expect this antisocial aristocrat to be always flanked by an Amandaros Godborn, but such is the face of his seven-years-loyal valet and hired advisor: Victor Lavigne. It's supposed that poor, exhausted Victor is the single pillar elevating Everett above the complete humiliation of Hawthorn Enterprises, for when left unattended in a privileged venue, he is unfailingly bound to offend a duchess with his despondent and insensitive manner of communicating.
∘ A Poet's Soul | If there was a single thing that no rattan cane could ever discipline out of Everett, it was his stubborn calling to poetry, ballads, elegies, limericks, and verses of the theatre. Though identified as having an "inventive mind" from toddlerhood, certain tragedies which unfolded a decade ago set a pen inseparably between Everett's fingers to contend with the grief.
∘ Hawthorn's Ghosts | Most Rosendale locals will recall a time ten years prior where Hawthorn's industry suddenly fell from the peaking cliff of its profit. The beginning of their financial end occurred upon the strange and sudden deaths of Ethel and Elisabeth Hawthorn, Edmund's cherished wife and daughter. In a house emptied of all but himself and his less favoured child, "Everett" (as he was liking to call himself these days), the widower devolved into reckless spending and anguished solitude. A misfortune shrouded in mystery, a patriarch's rapidly declining presentation, and the abruptly closing doors of a once bustling estate were delicious ingredients to a wildfire of rumour and obfuscation of events which have since departed into the past of old news.
