Given the sour company he keeps and his lack of combat training in comparison to them, he often finds himself on the wrong side of a fight; this, combined with an iron-willed stubbornness, means Efi will sooner find himself beaten half to death than backing down. Life Story Childhood [0] - Efraín Flores was born in the Spring of 281 AC in La Portée du Paradis (Havenreach), to a family of middle-class classical artists. His family traded in art and music, and the children were largely allowed to focus on where their aptitudes naturally lay. With life being so simple in the port town, it allowed for the family to invest most of their money in improving outward appearances, and so they largely appeared more wealthy than they actually were; they lived on simple meals and in simple beds, but wore fanciful clothes and jewellery. [1-3] - Efi was raised to learn Daendroquin as his first language, with sprinklings of common heard around town. During this time his parents had two more children, a brother named Felipe and a sister after him, Magdalena. [4-9] - Little Flores was less talented than his father had hoped; in a youth of study Efraín garnered only a subpar skill in music, and so as his brother and sister grew older his parents' focus was primarily upon them, leaving Efi to pursue interests of his own. Adolescence [10-12] - Even by twelve Efraín already developed the attitude that would stick with him for life. He was playful and full of confidence; and he started to develop a natural ability to get away with the misdeeds any young man would hope to, due to his cheeky grin and an affinity for simple lies. [13-15] - Efi's attitude started to become a problem for him and his parents. His quick tongue led him into frequent trouble, and it was rare he'd go a month without a black eye or cut lip from a fight with the local boys; over the years, he was exposed to a lot of fights and opportunities to hone his tongue. [16] - An arranged marriage was organised for Efi, unbeknownst to him at the time. [17] - A few months after turning seventeen, Efraín's father revealed to him his bride-to-be, and the young daen thought the idea abhorrent. He could imagine nothing more terrible than being stuck for life with someone he barely knew, and so he did everything he could to dissuade his parents, but it was to little avail. Seeing that his parents were unable to be convinced of his right to romance a girl of his choice, he instead opted to dissuade his bride's father, and so he spent much of his time being a nuisance to the family in the hopes the wedding would be called off. [18] - Eventually his idea was bore fruit, and after many months of delays his bride's father cancelled the plans to wed his daughter to Efraín. His father was incredibly disappointed at Efi's constant misbehaviour, and issued him an ultimatum: Efi would buckle up with the family business, start to remove the marks from his reputation, and find himself a wife, or he would be kicked out of his parents' home. Adulthood [19-20] - Despite a pitiful few weeks of trying, Efi had a natural distaste for authority and obedience, and so he soon gave up on the ultimatum delivered to him. He continued to brawl and lie to get his way, but by now he returned home with far fewer cut lips; and as he and the town boys got older, fights got more dangerous, and so Efi started to carry with him a simple dagger he'd purchased in secret and kept hidden from his family. [21] - On his twenty-first, his father's ultimatum was finally delivered. Efi was cast from home. His parents weren't cruel, however, and gave him money enough to safely start a life of his own. Efraín decided to take a ship over to the City of Daenshore. [22-26] - Over the next few years Efi travelled with most of his time. He quickly wasted away his money in bars and lost a large amount gambling, and so he was forced to find work sooner than he would have liked. He decided to put his childhood brawling and skill with small blades to use, and began to work as a sell-sword, drifting from town to town alongside parties in need of him. [26] - Marking five years since leaving home, Efi decided he was ready to find a place to settle, at least for a little while. He set his sights upon the city of Regalia, and he spent the following year slowly making his way there. [27] - A short amount of time past his twenty-seventh birthday, Efraín arrived at the city he'd been aiming for with little more than the clothes he wore and a dagger carefully nestled in his boot.
