Life Story & Plot Hooks
Edwin was born in the County of Eaton in early 285AC, a son of Lord Lyman and Lady Anne Croy. He, along with his brother Byron, was raised as a cousin with a father that would not inherit. He grew up with his nose between the pages of old books, occasionally but not normally accompanying his elder brother to court with his cousins.

Edwin was relatively untouched by the sudden inheritance of his father; being the second-born, the heavy expectations and training levied on his elder brother didn't touch him, leaving him to spend his time among book clubs and artists, delving deep into old bookshops and shady studios, learning to read, paint, and draw through his teenage years and early twenties.

Losing his mother early, Edwin took the loss well outwardly, but behind closed doors, learned early that he could use his noble privilege to delve into banned books, supposedly lost texts, and short stories about contacting the dead– or even raising them. Despite the obvious taboo of the matter, he nonetheless read of it constantly, developing a grim fixation on the topic of the occult. This secrecy extended even as far as the manifestation of his Magic, which Edwin took great stretches to obscure from his family and their staff.

As an adult, he became a knowledgeable man; warm, but given to disappearing between shelves in search of the next great story, fictional or real. His awareness of the world deepened, digging into old histories and obscure figures, learning much from his artistic companions and members of his book clubs. Some of these friends chose to educate Edwin on lesser-known information; profane symbols, occult rituals, magic charms– all of this feeding his interest in the world beyond the physical, all of which strengthened his grasp on his Magic.

Although he spent much of his life behind closed doors, he eventually braved the trip to Regalia– ostensibly to be with his brother, the Count Eaton, providing support both moral and political where required. However, Edwin was well aware of the other opportunities provided; the beating heart of the Empire carries with it a dark underworld, and the denizens of that underworld have much for him to gain from.
