Lol this is never daily anymore.

Anyway recently I've noticed there have been a lot of complaints about "scamming" and "bandits". From what I see its people being mad because the people who role play the villains are evil, which is a absurd complaing. If its a role play server, will there not be that "evil overlord" or that "bandit leader"? I mean come on, there is always a villain in fantasy worlds, there will always be lots of warmongers. There are always thiefs and scammers in fantasy worlds. If you want everyone to hold hands and sing together go to MLP. This is a minecraft role play/PVP server. I like the danger of the server, it adds tension. It also leads to nice role play as there can be "knights" who protect weaker factions, and it leads to alliances and empires. Note that I don't raid often at all. I think I've raided like 3 times total on Massive. My faction is very peaceful, but I like the danger of getting invaded and defending your home.

I forgot to say put your thoughts below, but Tax has already done it :)

Echoing your own sentiment a bit favoured, I find MassiveCraft so engaging because there are all of the risks and dangers involved. If PvP or scamming was entirely removed for example, I feel it would be a major take-away as everyone would be safe from problems, which would make the role-playing environment worse. You can't be a "good guy" if there's no "bad guy" doing immoral things worth fighting against. Both roles are needed to fully flesh out the role-play, so yes we do need some "bad" people doing things like stealing, lying, or just earning themselves general infamy (within the rules of course, rule-breakers are an entirely different matter). That doesn't mean the actual person is bad, it's just a role they're playing to contribute their part of the environment. It's how we develop our character and persona in general in a game. If people want no-risk role-playing, it can still be done on the forums, and to a degree in-game when in a more controlled situation.

One of my most exciting MassiveCraft moments so far was in relation to Algaron a while back, when our faction had an enemy that we felt was truly worth standing against. There were some minor PvP skirmishes and quite a lot of role-play done by a few key individuals on both sides over the course of a month or so. Through talking we found there were was disagreement within the ranks on how Algaron was treating other factions; little factors like that show how role-play can also make PvP more interesting. Your enemy can come in, kill your members, steal their items, clear out your (unprotected) animals. You can get scammed out of some silver or items. A person can join your faction just to steal valuables, and run away with them. Or maybe they're a spy from your greatest enemy. A power-hungry leader could try to conquer all of their neighboring factions and force them to pay tributes. Those same factions could unite and fight back. This can create moments of sadness, frustration, or anger, but also in turn makes for other moments of great satisfaction, accomplishment, or happiness. Being able to overcome real obstacles or accomplishment difficult tasks is what adds so much flavor to the experience, from my perspective.

I Think thewaymaker is Looking at it the right way, the experience of medieval multiplayer with small villages, Grand castles and epic stories is in Great need of evil. Everything from the smalltime scammer and stealer to the evil masterlords starting world Wars. :)
