What happened to them? I dislike the fact that the Vigilant Shield Headquarters has become a brick box with a floating island in the sky.

All guard charters were disbanded and replaced with the Violet Order. There are now chapters under the single order with each having a commander to lead. As for the ex-Vigilant Shield HQ, it was in the process of being redone when the change happened.
