It was a warm yet calm autumn afternoon in Daenshore. The potted palms along the balconies of the Viceroy's palace were gently dancing in the wind as the Viceroy of Daendroc, Alejandro Anahera, was enjoying an afternoon high tea with his daughter Camila and mother Theresa. They were seated in such an angle that they could see the Regalian ships in harbor, and the various columns of Anahera troops marching below in the streets and staircases to the Palace which sat atop a mighty hill, overlooking the city of Daenshore. Alejandro had closed shut the gates of Daenshore to prevent any rebellious elements from entering the city, or so he had claimed in the week before. Andrieu had sent troops under the guise of reinforcements, some 4,000 strong had come from San Selin and Girobalda in the Regalian Archipelago. Theresa and Alejandro were having a vague conversation about letters and titles while Camila was dipping her spoon into the strawberry jam, preparing to put some on a biscuit to have with her cinnamon tea. Suddenly, a servant burst onto the large balcony, disrupting the serenity with calls for the viceroy to meet representatives of Andrieu's troops in the room adjacent to the balcony. Alejandro wiped clean his hands and his mouth before striding towards the room, where Atilio Amaya awaited him with a number of Anahera guards in shining armor wearing the traditional Anahera berets and feathers. Theresa motioned for Camila to come closer as she started inquiring after Camila's new wedding plans. She kept her vision positioned to such an angle that she could keep the corner of her eyes fixed on the doorway that showed Alejandro and Atilio talking. She couldn't quite make out what they were saying, but it was obvious that the discussion was heated as Alejandro was waving his hands in gestures and some guards entered the room. It made Theresa feel uneasy, so she pulled away from the scene, standing up from her seat and pacing over to the balcony with Camila in hand. She was about to start telling a tale of Anahera ships back in the days of Celine before she was stopped in her tracks by Camila letting out an agonizing scream.
Theresa immediately dropped her saucer and teacup as she whipped around, only to see Alejandro slowly sink to the ground with Atilio Amaya impaling him with a sword. The guards inside the room were already fighting with one another, it was hard to even make out who was fighting who as it was Anahera guard versus Anahera guard. The men inside were momentarily distracted, just enough for Theresa to grab Camila's hand and run her crying granddaughter down a flight of stairs next to the balcony down towards the gardens. She just saw Atilio pacing onto the balcony with a horn as they stepped into the gardens, before he blew the horn. There was a moment of silence where the fighting in the meeting room ceased, before cries started rising from all parts of the upper district and the palace. Theresa quickly took Camila by the arm again and started fleeing towards the staircases past the cypress galleries and the statue galleries. Everywhere around them Anahera soldier turned on Anahera soldier, a squad of them raced to escort Theresa down before two of them suddenly pulled up their swords and stabbed the others in the back.
This flight now turned into a full blown panic as courtiers around them were getting stabbed left and right, the screams of the servants filling the sky as the sun was setting, filling the clouds that were now forming with a crimson red light. Glass was shattering all around them as guards were thrown from windows and when they passed beneath the windows of Alejandro's office, soldiers were tossing burning papers out of the windows, whole stacks at a time. Camila was completely in a daze, Theresa kept purely running despite her age and weariness for the sake of her granddaughter. When they reached the lower staircase that lead out of the upper district, they found the entire staircase littered with the corpses of Anahera soldiers. They couldn't even distinguish the difference between who had attacked them and who tried to defend them. They continued down the stairs, both their dresses now soaked in the blood of the soldiers that continued to run down the once white marble stairs. When they reached the bottom, night had fallen and the sky behind them was lit by the fires burning in the Viceroy's palace. Theresa recognized the distinct rooms where the smoke came from, Alejandro's bedroom, Alejandro's office, the meeting room, the library and her own office. Theresa and Camila took off their dresses and took some woolen cloaks from a dead servant girl nearby while wearing nothing but their under dresses underneath to avoid being recognized. They continued along, staying close near the walls to avoid detection down the streets towards the harbor. Theresa hoped one of her own loyal ship captains was still alive in the harbor, avoiding the killings that had occurred in the upper districts. occasionally a squad of soldiers passed by in a hurry yelling "Seize the traitors! Filthy rebels!". Theresa did not know if these soldiers meant her own kind, or those who had attacked them. Either way, she decided she didn't want to find out and try to draw as little attention as possible while she came ever closer to the harbor.
When she did finally reach the harbor, her heart sank when she saw all the merchant ships burning, mere driftwood was left of the ships that had anchored before the rebellion broke out with several Anahera battleships forming a blockade in the distance, shelling a coastal fortification that was still holding out. At that moment, Theresa sank to the floor, Camila trying to urge her to stand as the clanking of metal was heard behind them. When Camila turned, there stood Atilio Amaya holding a piece of paper with her uncle's seal on it. He proclaimed: "By decree of the Arch-Chancellor Andrieu Anahera, rightful Lord of Girobalda and the San Selin protectorate, Theresa and Camila Anahera are hereby to be placed under arrest for treason against the State, the Empire, the Emperor and grand treason against the Sancella of Union. For your crimes you are to be imprisoned in the Castello dei Girobalda until further notice. Be aware that if you resists arrest, we have the authority to use lethal force!". Camila tried to urge her grandmother to her feet again, this time with a more desperate tone, but it was of no use. Theresa had given up, tears were rolling down her cheeks as the light of the fire was reflected in her eyes. The last of the Anahera sigil flags bearing Alejandro's personal shield was cut down from the post near them, it slowly twirled down to the ground until a gust of wind blew it into the water to join the chests of opium and driftwood and corpses.
Back in Regalia, news to this occurrence was very mixed. The Chancellor announced that his brother had been found guilty of treason against the state and that he had discovered his intent to join the rebellion with the entirety of the Daendroquin Governorate. When an arrest party was sent, he had resisted arrest and in the chaos of the fight that ensued, he was slain. All other Anahera relatives were imprisoned until further notice and shipped to the Castello in Girobalda without visitation rights or communication rights. The Chancellor had submitted papers bearing Alejandro's sigil and stamp that implicated his knowledge of the rebellion and a pledge to join it to the State Council. At court, courtiers heralded Andrieu as a savior and the man to defend the southern half of the western continent from falling into rebel hands. Both the State Council and the Emperor as well as the extended Imperial Family however remained silent as the grave, though let the passage of titles pass down as they would in Daendroque tradition. Andrieu inherited all of the titles held by Alejandro with the exception of the Daendroque Governorate which was temporarily given to Duke Gabriel de la Sueva of San Aruellas.
