I dunno about you, but I'm TIRED of seeing people raise 200 silver then make a horrible faction and then die off in a few weeks. I propose a book on how to run a good faction, including a lot of tips and basic guidelines on how to get started with one. I would like some very experienced faction leaders to help me write one up by offering some ideas if possible.

If you want a good looking city, be obsessively strict with member's houses. That was the problem we had in Farmlands, we invited a lot of less experienced builders that built big cobble boxes. At some point, the number of ugly houses were simply to many to manage / tear down.

I have more thought, but my class starts in 2s :P

If you want, I could help write a few pages. I have ran some successful factions on other servers.

Building codes are definitely something that all factions, even in real life, do or would do well to enforce. And not that I said this before, but I believe that a faction should define a purpose, even if it's just to build without getting greifed. Then maybe they won't fall apart because they have a unified design.

On new factions getting 200 silver off the bat, it's probably because new players get together with their 30 silver until they have enough. This could also be a problem for the burgeoning faction, because these original faction members may have differing styles, and may abandon their faction (and possibly the server) because making a faction hasn't turned out like they hoped.

EDIT: Vote yes, because more books. :D

Favoured, you know I would be a good writer for this. I am strict, but not cruel, and I am occasional funny. :) I'll be a major producer in this, and I am free to perform this task.

I have little experience as a faction leader - I owned my faction Rift which lasted only 4-5 months - But if you like I could help.

Ok guys, if you could post like a chapter or 2 on this thread, i can add some of your material to the book, it doesn't matter if its not polished, im just taking some concepts and adding it to the book.

Have people complain about many shitty factions

Raise faction prices

People keep complaining about shitty factions

I don't think anyone will actually read a faction how to manual, but if you want to write one, go for it.

There's only one solution;
Hbo_monitoring.jpg

Monitoring the factions to ensure standards are met.

We have assembled a team of staff members who have time spare to do this!

I think it is a great idea, but this should include
1. base forms of government
2. fair ruling
3. judgement on players actions
4. Rules and regulations
5. The Officer team
6. Diplomacy
and more... these are only few of what I think should be separate chapters.

The people who make shitty factions aren't the kind of people to read guides. The people who will read the guide are the people who don't need it.

Frankly the main key to a good faction is to be good at every thing you want your members to be good at and know a group of people you adequately trust.

Or be paranoid as hell and luck out that you find trustworthy people.

I ran a town named Olympus on a server called SN (it was shut down so not advertising) I inherited it from a guy who was item duping I was the only assistant left so I was on my own. our town was at 60-70 at that point after finding some people that luckily had turned out to be trustworthy. Together we made the largest town the server ever had numbering at 187 when the server had shut down. So yeah

Luck
Organization
A level head
And Some Towny/Faction knowledge

and anyone you get to be your officer should have these as well and know how you think, plan, and react to situations. If not tell them not to make any decisions without you.

Ha, there should be more than 6 chapters in something like this Made_By. Of curse we should use 2 chapters to explain how illo will betray and empire after he gets into a position of power.[DOUBLEPOST=1353795415][/DOUBLEPOST]But really, The key to a good faction is a good starting basis. Make a main faction goal to achieve, Have a strict building code, have reliable allies, guidelines to work from, and rules to guide a member.
