DESCRIPTION
You travel throughout Aloria with your money, but nobody really knows what a Regal looks like.

CONTEST
I challenge you, the community, to dig deep inside your coin pouch and look at that shiny Regal and draw your interpretation of it. We at MassiveCraft already have a general idea of what we believe a Regal looks like, but this contest seeks an alternative view. You can use many artistic renders such as Photoshop, drawings, etc. Considering that this artwork will be used in future media it is best if the image is in full color and fairly high resolution. Extra points go toward those who can tie their artwork to current lore. Make sure it is medieval in nature and imagine it having a silver core with gold exterior.

Your artwork has to be original and not plagiarized from the internet. We will check each image for authenticity. Those images that are against the rules will be disqualified.

JUDGE PANEL
The panel will be devised of several members from the MassiveCraft PR Staff and lead by me, Ha5h. We will screen each art and the one with the most votes by PR Staff members win. The PR Staff cannot apply for this contest.

HOW TO SUBMIT
Attach your final image on this post. One entry per person please. It is ok for others to give feedback on the artwork posted in this thread, however if you submit your entry and need to change it, just edit your submission post.

REWARD
The winner of the this contest will have their artwork featured throughout MassiveCraft media and possibly in the lore. Additionally the winner will be given 1,000 Regals to spend in any way they wish. NOTE: Anyone with access to this forum can apply. If you are temp banned and also the winner, we will try to give you your winnings when you return.

DEADLINE
The deadline for this contest is May 1, 2014 at 0001 EST. This post will be updated with a lock to symbolize the closure. The winner will be announced at a later time. I will update this post as the drawing comes to an end.

I gave it a shot in Illustrator and Photoshop. If you need the un-annotated versions just send me a pm. Brighter colour means a raised surface, yadayada.

I can't quite draw and I don't have a good program to make it, but I have an imagination of what it would look like.
(Of course this isn't going to be of actual value to the Contest, it's my thoughts, and how I FEEL that they should look like)
-Metallic color, Gold was reserved for the highest of nobles and leaders of Regalia, so that civilians cannot just melt it down and try and sell it for more, hence it being made of Silver or perhaps even Iron
-Contained a "1" on the front of it, however the "1" supposedly looked back then, symbolizing it is worth 1 Regal, and on the back would be the current leader of when it was made, with their family symbol on it over a flag, family name above it, and a Specific chosen symbol would be behind the 1, depending on what the leader wanted behind it
-The words surrounding the "1" would say "Regalian Crafted, With Pride."
-Ones dropped from mobs would be slightly rusted, and perhaps have blood on it, as well as differed symbols behind the 1, depending upon how old they are and how old the coin is

I leave that up to you artist :) Ideally I am looking for a single denomination.

I'm under the impression that a Regal would be made of gold, though I'm not sure of its purity. It is a standard currency, since Regalia is the trade capital of the Known World. Using gold, one can determine prices and adjust values based on the value of gold, which is often used as a staple for economic comparisons. I honestly don't know why the most of you think the most holiest of currencies are made of silver or iron that can very well be used for more useful purposes.

Rather easy Tinks, while it would make sense to make the coin valuable itself through going with gold or another expensive material you have to keep in mind that the Regal is a currency with only 1 coin. That means even for a slice of bread you would have to pay at least 1 Regal. So you would have to pay 1 golden Regal for only one tiny slice of bread, meaning the Coin would be far more valuable than the bread. To avoid this problem the coin has either to be tiny or it has to be made out of another, less valuable material, Bronze for example.

The Florin of the Republic of Florence was minted between 1252 and 1533 and is generally considered a hallmark of renaissance currency. It did indeed have 3.5 grams of relatively fine gold and would have been worth roughly $200USD, but one must bear in mind that the Republic of Florence was a small portion of Northern Italy, much smaller than Regalia is assumed to be. It was small enough in population that the poorer farmers and peasantry which lived outside of the cities could rely on trade and bartering to stay afloat.

Since the Empire is much bigger and a vast majority of the Regalian Isles are large, agrarian societies as opposed to the small Republic of Florence's largely metropolitan society (during the later years of it at least), a bartering system would be hard to maintain. Rather than having one very valuable denomination and many lesser denominations as the British Empire did, it would be cheaper and easier for an Empire such as Regalia's to maintain one denomination of fairly low value.

i don't think gold is very valubale (irl it is) you can just "send" some adventurers/freelancers in teh rift to kill a whole bunch of pigmen and have them tehn return teh golden nuggets and as reward they get fame and teh rest (or something)

Gold is still very valuable, other than in actuall Minecraft Zombiepigmen are very hard to kill, at least lorewise. And who would risk their live for the small chance to get a golden nugget that can be turned into 2, maybe 3 Regals ? That would not even be worth a drink ;)

Lore wise, I believe that humans print their emperors on their coins, because they praise them as gods. Money is very important to humans as well, so there has to be a connection.^^

I had not much time drawing it, so it looks kinda messy. (original resolution is 1754x1754) I can rework it, if needed, but this is the picture I use for the competition... can't do anything better because of the lack of time I have. >.<

OMG, this is going to help define currencies to much for the lore I wrote. I did put down that Regals have the state animal and then the emperor's head on the other side...wonder what's going to be picked.
