    Arend Alder.jpg

    Basic Information:

    • Arend Luis Alder is a 29 year old male Alt-Regalian Ailor.
    • Arend was born in Anglia to Lennard and Frieda Alder in 274 AC. Arend was an only child as Frieda was unable to have any other children after having Arend. Some familial relations include:
      • Lennard Alder - 51 - Alive and currently living in Anglia - Father
      • Frieda Alder - 49 - Alive and currently living in Anglia - Mother
      • Derick Alder - 72 - Alive and currently living in Anglia - Grandfather
      • Tresa Alder - Deceased - Grandmother
    • Arend currently lives in a house paid for by Thomas Kade. The house is located in the Ithanian district. Though he lives here, it is not uncommon for him to spend a majority of his time at the Cadar Estate as he spends a lot of time around Thomas.
    • Since becoming Leibgarde to Thomas Kade, Arend's main goal is to prove himself capable of this duty. Although he has known Thomas since a young age, he still feels as if he has something to prove to him, but mostly to the other members of his family. For the time being Arend has put many of his previews ambitions aside, now focusing solely on his duty to Thomas, hoping that he can make a name for himself through this. He also hopes that since he is back with Thomas that he can continue his studies and finally become a knight.
    Visual Information

    Body Description

    • Arend stands at a height of 6 foot 3 inches and weighs around 216 lbs. Overall his body is typical of a warrior or fighter, as he has trained most of his life. He is quite athletic and he is very toned. His arms are particularly muscular with his legs being just slightly less impressive. Arend has broad shoulders and large torso overall. Arend has a bad left wrist due to an injury in his child hood. His wrist never healed correctly and causes him a great deal of pain from to time.
    • Arend has a skin tone similar to many Regalians. It would be about a 5 or 6 on the skin chart. He has a fairly clear complexion aside from the occasional blemish or freckle. Arend has various scars covering his arms, chest and legs. The most prominent ones being on his arms. These scars are a result of cuts, scratches and bruises earned through fighting, and similar events throughout his life.
    • Arend has a fair amount of dark brown hair covering his body. His chest is the hairiest part of his body other than his head, followed by his arms. His legs also sport a fair amount of hair as but are not quite as hairy as the rest of his body.
    Head Description

    ArendAlderBust.png

    • Arend like many others in his family has a very angular and squarish face. His features are very rigid and defined. His jawline is a fairly prominent feature of his face, as well as his wide brow. He has a fairly average sized nose though the tip is a bit flattened.
    • Arend has pale blue eyes typical to those of the Alder family. His typical expression is quite friendly as he usually has a smile on his face. He usually looks fairly laid back and approachable.
    • Arend has dark black hair also typical to members of his family. His hair is kept short on the sides, and is slightly longer on the top. His hair spikes out slightly at the front, the rest laying flat. His hair is generally fairly wavy. Arend has been known to have a full beard from time to time, though currently he is sporting a goatee type beard. He switches back and forth on his decision to have facial hair or not somewhat frequently, and has just recently switched from clean shaven to his goatee type beard.
    • Arend has no facial accessories currently. He doesn't have any major scars on his face as of yet, though it's not uncommon to see a few minor cuts or scratches on his face from time to time. Currently he has no facial disabilities.
    Clothing and Accessories
    • Since becoming a Leibgarde to Thomas, most of Arend's clothing is provided for him. He would typically wear an outfit signifying his position, meaning his clothes are typically Thomas' colors of blue and dark grey. His clothing would be less elegant than that of the Kade's themselves, but much nicer than that of a commoner being made of finer materials such as silks. He typically also wears some armor with with his clothes, especially while with Thomas. Though uncommon now, if Arend isn't wearing the clothing provided to him, he will wear simple clothing, usually being whatever is comfortable.
    • The only accessory that Arend currently wears is a simple golden ring given to him by his previous wife. They are no longer together but the fact that he still wears it shows a lot about his opinion on the situation. He holds onto it as a reminder of his former wife, and his way of not completely letting go. When asked about the ring he will usually make something up and is not very forth coming when it comes to the subject.
    Behavior Information

    Personality Traits

    • Independent - Growing up as an only child Arend learned quickly to depend on himself. While he does enjoy the company of others and their help he doesn't require it. Arend is very capable on his own if nessecary and doesn't need constant attention to feel content. He often dislikes those who are overly dependent on others seeing them as unable to fend for themselves and taking advantage of others.
    • Easy-going - Generally Arend is a very laid back type of guy. He knows when to take things seriously, but typically he is very relaxed about things. This trait usually makes Arend fairly easy to get along with as he tends to go along with the flow of things. This also means that Arend is fairly easy to influence as his thoughts on most subjects are not very strict.
    • Compassionate - Arend is usually a very Compassionate person when it comes to friends, family, and sometimes even strangers. Arend is very eager to show his close friends and family that he cares about them. He will do almost anything he can to help out these people and geuniely cares about those he holds close. This however is sometimes faked as Arend would rather show compassion towards others then let them know his true feelings. He doesn't typically like talking about his emotions and will usually opt for acting happy, or Compassionate towards others regardless if he actually is or not.
    • Ambitious - Arend always feels like he has to prove something to someone. His worst fear is probably that he would be seen as a failure to his friends and family. He has always been a very hard worker and strives to always be doing something of use. The opinions of others weigh greatly on him and being seen as some kind of success is something Arend longs for.
    • Sensitive - Arend is very sensitive but very rarely outwardly. Due to his desire to succeed Arend has a hard time dealing with criticism. He takes everything to heart and being criticized affects him immensely. Often he will hide this not telling anyone when things bother him until ultimately enough builds up that he let's it all out at once.
    • Reticent - Arend is very secretive when it comes to his emotions especially negative ones. Arend would much rather look happy then let others know how he truly feels. He often chooses to mask his true emotions behind a smiling face and overly caring attitude towards others. He finds it easy to be there for others but is very rarely able to open up to others. There are but a few people in Arend's life that have ever heard him open up entirely to them.
    • Conflicted - Arend is often Conflicted on his opinon and views of the world, as well as his own emotions. He is very easy to influence so he constantly finds himself debating how he feels about something once introduced to a differing opinion. His emotions are even worse as he tries to convince himself some of them don't exist leading to him being very Reticent about his true feelings.
    • Optimistic - Despite everything Arend tends to be very optimistic almost to a fault. Arend likes to see the bright side of everything often convincing himself there is a bright side to every situation. He chooses to take most negative situations or opinions of his and turn them into something more positive. Even if Arend truly doesn't believe there is a brightside he will almost always make one up and outwardly portray that he believes it to be true, even if deep down he is Conflicted about it.
    Likes
    • Combat - Arend has always enjoyed a good fight. Whether it be training, a spar, or the battlefield Arend gets excited by fighting. He enjoys having spars or duels with his friends to improve his own skill. He has served in the military and he enjoys it for the most part. Arend also finds that training is one of the ways he can relieve some of the stress he builds up day to day. Arend does not have many ways of relieving his stress as he hides most of his emotions from others so training is often one way he can get these frustrations out.
    • Drinking - Arend has always loved drinking. Wine is among one of his favorite drinks, and he drinks quite often when he has the money for it. To Arend drinking with friends is one of the best ways to pass the time. He doesn't love drinking quite to the point of being an alcoholic, but he does drink quite often.
    • Meditation - Arend has found that meditation has been a great way to rest and relax his typically Conflicted mind. Arend values his alone time when he gets it and meditation has become one of the ways he generally spends it. Meditation helps clear Arend's mind and ultimately calms him down some. Meditation helps delay the almost inevitable eruption of everything Arend bottles up but it is not a cure for it.
    • Recognition - Arend loves nothing more than to be recognized for achievements of his. He is constantly seeking the approval of others and wishes to be viewed as a success. Upon receiving recognition Arend will typically have a very large confidence boost. Arend is easily won over through recognition and praise, and would likely adore anyone who payed him any form of recognition.
    • Music - From a very young age Arend's mother Frieda would typically sing to him to put him to sleep. She did this for most of his childhood, and sang around the house quite often. Arend always loved hearing his mother sing and it helped develop his love for music. Arend learned how to sing from his mother and she taught him well. Being the easy going guy that Arend is, it's not uncommon for Arend to start singing along with any bards he might come across.
    Dislikes
    • Dishonesty - Though he isn't typically dishonest, this is almost hypocritical of him as he tends to hide his own emotions or lying about how he truly feels. Still, Arend hates when people lie to him. He prefers that people are open with him and he's not a fan of deceit. Arend wishes he could be more open with people, but typically he just convinces himself that he's not really being dishonest.
    • Losing/Failure - Arend takes losing or failing at something very harshly. Arend doesn't deal with accepting the fact that he can't succeed at everything. Arend's ambition causes him to constantly seek approval from others and failing at this is something he despises greatly. Whether it be combat, a game, or just being seen as a failure in general, Arend dislikes it and doesn't deal with it well.
    • Qadir/Naylar - Arend is very distrusting of these two races. The Qadir he has personal experience with as up until returning to Regalia he has been a soldier on the front lines of the war. Due to this he can't stand their kind and would most likely be extremely rude to them. Arend is also not very fond of Naylar due to the events of the Chrysant wars. He firmly believes that the Regalian empire was right in eradicating most of their kind, and still takes great caution while around them.
    • Emotions - Arend does not like talking about his emotions, often hiding how he really feels or faking happiness. It is not uncommon for Arend to say he is doing fine when asked if he is alright even if he really isn't. He will avoid almost all conversations involving his emotions but generally only negative emotions cause this. He is very confused about his own emotions but he pretends like he understands them, so those questioning how he feels or if he actually feels that way, irritate him greatly. This dislike is mostly only for his personal emotions, but there are cases in which he dislikes hearing about the emotions of other people as well.
    • Opium - Due to an incident in his teenage years, Arend has a strong dislike for the substance. He refuses to use it, and feels uncomfortable around people who are using it. He doesn't hate it enough to leave the room entirely if others are using it but he will definitely avoid them if he has the option. This is mostly in Arend's head and he probably wouldn't have a dislike for it if it weren't for what happened long ago.
    Abilities and Disabilities

    Strengths
    • Trained Swordsman - Arend is very well trained in using a long sword. He has been training for years, and spends a lot of his free time sparring or training with it. He also has seen quite a bit of combat giving him lots of first hand experience with fighting. His athletic and somewhat muscular build make him a formidable opponent.
    • Easy-Going - Due to Arend's laid back and easy-going personality he is very easy to get along with. Arend makes friends very easily because of this, and is typically seen as a very friendly man. He also tends not to make enemies as often as he is usually quite agreeable to most things due to being so laid back. In most cases this trait of his is beneficial to him as he uses it to form relationships quickly.
    • Quick Learner - Arend is usually quick to pick up on things whether it be a new subject, how to act in a certain situation, or a new combat technique. This is partly due to his easy going nature as it makes him very adaptable. Typically Arend is able to pick up on new concepts very quickly and most times with ease. He enjoys learning new things and often finds himself trying to find new things to learn.
    Weaknesses
    • Left Wrist - Due to an injury during his childhood, Arend's left wrist causes him a lot of pain. It never quite healed right so it's more difficult for him to use two handed weapons or lift heavy things. He often holds a shield in this wrist but over time it becomes increasingly hard for him to keep a grip on it. He still insists on fighting with a shield, but the longer the battle goes on, the more likely it is to be dropped and the less useful it is for him as it becomes harder for him to hold on to it.
    • Conflicted - Arend is very conflicted about his emotions. He tricks himself into believing that he feels a certain way because he'd rather people not know his true feelings, and in truth he probably just doesn't understand them himself. Arend is constantly battling himself as he tries to keep up a positive appearance but it does weigh on him greatly. From time to time the stress of this gets to Arend and he can become very different from how he typically is, almost unrecognizable to his normal self. Very few people have seen Arend in this state. If one were to see him in this state, it wouldn't be unlikely for them to think of differently of him.
    • Easily Influenced - While Arend's easy-going nature is usually a good thing for him, it does also cause him to be easily influenced. While it isn't usually so bad that he can get along with almost anyone, this can be used against him as his opinions are typically easy to sway. One could win over Arend fairly easily if they wanted to, and use it to their advantage. Arend is usually to caught up in is desire to please others that he doesn't even notice the fact that he is so easily influenced by people.
    • Intimidating Posture - Arend is quite tall and a fairly large man so he is very hard to miss. It's generally very hard for Arend do any type of sneaking around. Being as large as Arend is, he's typically able to be spotted from quite far away. His large stature also makes him difficult to approach at times. From time to time even though he is generally really friendly, how large he is will often scare people off.
    Combat Styles
    • Sword and Shield - Arend typically uses a longsword and shield in combat. To Arend the best offense is a good defense and he typically fights very defensively. He uses his shield to block and his sword to parry waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike his opponent. He rarely takes a strike unless he is sure it will hit, and is quite calculated when it comes to his fighting. Due to his left wrist being weak, when it becomes tired his usual style turns a bit more aggressive as he tries to make up for not having or being able to use his shield. Generally though he tries to beat his opponents through endurance and calculated strikes.

    Weapons of Choice
    • Longsword - In combat Arend typically prefers to use a longsword in combination with his shield.
    • Fists - Arend is no stranger to a fist fight, and is quite skilled when it comes to fighting with them as well.

    Relationships
    • Lennard Alder - Arend's pretty much deadbeat father. Arend didn't really understand it much when he was younger, he even adored him for quite a long time. He thought so highly of his father when he finally decided to get him sword lessons. Over time Arend learned that his father was more interested in drinking than anything else and now he hardly visits his father. He mostly sees him now when visiting his mother, but rarely interacts with him unless he has to. He doesn't think fondly of his father anymore.

    • Frieda Alder - Arend loves his mother, he spent so much of his childhood with her, and he could be considered a bit of a Mama's boy. He frequently travels back to Anglia when he can to see her. He is a bit reluctant however because that means he has to see his father, but his mother is very important to him. He cares highly of his mother's opinion of him and just hopes that she is proud of him and everything that he does.

    • Derick Alder - Derick is Arend's grandfather. Arend considers Derick to be more of a father to him than his true father ever was. He is quite fond of his grandfather and wishes that he could see him more since he figures Derick doesn't have much time left. Derick is now 72 and his health is failing him. Arend tries to visit Anglia as much as he can to see his grandfather, but he doesn't get to as much due to his duties in the military. Arend hopes to see him more soon since returning to Regalia and being within travel distance.

    • Thomas Kade (@Tahmas): Thomas is a childhood friend of Arend's. Arend always enjoyed being friends with Thomas and still feels as though they are pretty close. Thomas is one of the few people Arend will open up to, but he still is hesitant around him especially after being away for such a long amount of time. Arend is excited to be back however and wishes to prove himself a capable Leibgarde to Thomas.
    • N'omiel M'triche (@Omnomivore): Arend met the klein only recently, and it was actually his first run in with the species. He instantly fell in love with how cute the tiny girl was and wanted to have her as a pet. Soon after Thomas Kade agreed to adopt her, and she now as her very own room next to Arend in there house in the Ithanian district.
    • Jehenna Lampero (@Bellaa): Arend knows Jehenna through his best friend and master, Thomas Kade. He actually is quite fond of Jehenna, and approves of her and Thomas' courtship. He hopes the best for the two and genuinely likes talking with Jehenna as well.
    • Elemmire Seregon (@CheshireKitten): Arend just recently met the Nelfin woman in the tavern. Arend has been trying to meet some new people in his free time that Thomas allows him, so Arend decided to introduce himself to her. The duo talked in the tavern for quite some time before venturing off to the park, and then Arend's home in the Ithanian district. Arend has already become quite interested in his new friend after a quick kiss was exchanged before the end of their first meeting. He enjoys her company and being the easy going type of guy he is, he doesn't even mind her stutter at all. He hopes to continue their relationship as Arend feels as if he could use some company for when he is not on duty, especially the company of a woman.
    • Marie Fleuette (@LlamaDelRey): Arend has only met Marie quite recently. The got to talking in the tavern one night and eventually ended up back at Arend's place. Arend was interested in her as more than just friends but isn't quite sure she shares the same sentiments yet. He is interested in continuing their relationship and is quite intrigued by her after finding out she is a light mage. He figures even if they only remain friends he may have a use for her.
    • Emelina Alder (@SunShineRainbows): Emelina, or Emmy as she prefers to be called is Arend's daughter. Arend only recently met his daughter when she ran away from home to hopefully find him in Regalia. She is the product of Arend's failed marriage between him and Lisbeth. Lisbeth hid Emelina's existance from him, and now that Arend has met her he is not sure how to feel. He is overjoyed to finally be meeting his daughter, but scared and confused as he missed 12 years of his child's life. Arend hopes to be able to catch up with his daughter and make up for some lost time.
    • Apollonia Tzavaras (@Goldzillaa): Arend has recently started to become quite close with the Etosian woman. At first he was interested in purely friendship but since a recent trip to her house, he is unsure of how he feels. He finds that he can now relate to her after finding out he has a daughter. Before the end of their last meeting they exchanged a rather long embrace, further confusing him on how he feels about her.
    • Nerys Typhonus (@Annju): Nerys is one of Arend's newest, but closest friends. He instantly clicked with her, and bonds with her over there similar love for music. He enjoys talking to her and being around her. They recently had a bit of an issue when there were rumors of the two flirting, which would've been highly inappropriate for both of them. It was quickly settled however as Nerys was able to convince her brother that Arend had no ill intentions when it came to her. Arend cares about Nerys a lot and is just happy to be able to talk to her once again.
    Life Story

    Birth:

Arend was born in 274 AC on the 3rd of January. He was born in Anglia to his father Lennard, and Mother Frieda. Frieda's pregnancy with Arend was not a simple one however and she almost died in child birth. Fortunately she lived, but due to unknown complications, she was unable to conceive again, leaving Arend as an only child. At the time Lennard was a Kade guardsmen in Anglia. He was constantly busy with his job so Arend spent almost the entirety of his early life with his mother, and his grandfather Derick. In many ways Derick acted as more of a father to Arend then Lennard ever did. Lennard provided a decent amount of money for the family through his guard work, but only enough to make it by. Derick made up just enough through farming to allow the family to live comfortably but they were still far from being considered rich. By most standards the Alder family were quite average.

    Childhood:

Growing up as an only child was very tough on Arend. Arend didn't have anyone to play with and often spent most of his time making up games by himself, or playing with his grandfather Derick when he was home. With Derick in the fields, and Lennard on guard duty, Frieda was usually left the job of watching Arend by herself. Frieda tried to show Arend as much love as possible to make up for what she felt he was missing out on, since his father was rarely around. When Lennard was around he mostly ignored his son rarely playing with him or teaching him anything. Lennard would much rather come home and drink his problems away, then spend time with his family. He was not always this way, but after finding out his wife couldn't provide him with any more children, he became quite a bitter man. Lennard could be considered an alcoholic and it caused his marriage with Frieda to suffer greatly. Up until the age of about 5 Arend spent most of his time either with his mother and grandfather or coming up with games for himself to play.

One of Arend's favorite things to do at a young age was to play soldier. He would grab the nearest wooden stick, and act as if it were a sword and pretend he was a soldier. Even though he had very little interaction with his father, Arend vied for his attention, seeking his approval in some form. He dreamed of being just like his father and becoming a guard. Around the ages of 7-8 Arend started seeking out friends to play with, up until now the only social interaction he really had was with his mother, grandmother, and the occasional other child he would meet while playing outside. He made a few friends here and there but none that really stuck around for too long. Arend as a child was quite socially awkward at first, but being a quick learner he adapted quickly. The more time he spent around other kids the better he got at it and he found himself always trying to fit in with the other kids.

It was also around this time that Arends' grandfather got him his first wooden sword. Arend loved this gift so much and trained with it as much as he could. His father still was very busy with his guard work, but he began becoming less bitter over the years spending a bit more time with Arend. He trained him to use his wooden sword when he got the chance, and it was finally something that Lennard enjoyed doing with his son, finally forming some kind of bond between them. Frieda was just happy to see the two finally interacting with each other. For his age Arend became quite good at using his sword, although it was only made of wood. Lennard noted how quickly Arend was picking up on everything he had taught him and so Lennard decided he should get him properly trained. Lennard got together as much extra money he could to pay for Arend to be properly trained to use a sword and shield. Arend was nearing the age of 9 at this time and this was probably the first time Lennard has done something special for him.

Arend had just turned 9 and was just beginning to take his lessons. It was at this time that Arend met one of the few close friends he ever had, Thomas Kade. Their relationship at first was a little rocky as Arend was only the son of a guard. Arend always liked Thomas however and soon a friendship was born. In between Arend's lessons he always tried finding Thomas so they could have their adventures together. Arend was happy to finally have someone he could truly call a friend and would have probably spent all his time with him, if it weren't for Thomas being a Kade, and the fact Arend had his lessons as well. Arend grew quite fond over Thomas over the years and even when they hadn't seen him for a long time, he was always pleased to be reunited with his best friend.

When Arend was around the age of 11 he decided to sneak off and enter a small tavern in Anglia. Arend was quite curious and so he stepped inside looking around at all the patrons taking everything in. He didn't get very far though when he bumped one of the local bards playing at the tavern. The bard looked down at Arend with a confused look on his face wondering how Arend even got in here on his own, but before he could say anything Arend had picked up his Lute and began strumming it. The bard turned glaring at Arend for a moment before chuckling to himself. The sound coming from the lute was nothing spectacular as Arend had never played on before but it gave the bard an idea. The bard reached in his bag and revealed a tambourine, he then handed to Arend and showed him for a few minutes exactly what he wanted Arend to do. Arend eagerly listened as he was instructed and picked up on it quite quickly. Arend began playing the tambourine as the bard showed him to and then the bard grabbed his lute and began to play. Many of the tavern patrons turned as the music started giving quizzical looks at the child playing the tambourine then looking back up towards the actual bard. Arend gleefully played the tambourine as he watched the bard play his lute. It was then the bard began to sing a simple tune and this caught Arend's interest. He listened for a bit getting a feel for the song until he started singing along shocking the bard. The bard almost stopped playing as he was not expecting the boy to sing, but he continued on and the two sang and played together for a good 15 minutes. The song finally ended and the bard gave Arend a friendly handshake asking him if he ever thought of becoming a bard. Arend just smiled up at him and simply told him about his dreams to become a guard just like his father. The bard frowned momentarily but a few seconds later regained his smile told Arend, "Well if that doesn't work out, you have something to fall back on it seems." Shortly after the two went their separate ways, Arend headed home never seeing the bard again, but he still tells the story to people from time to time and has a good laugh about it with his friends.

From the ages of 10 to 13 Arend spent most of his time either training or seeing Thomas if he was around. When Thomas was gone or couldn't see Arend, he would get quite sad as he was one of the few friends that Arend had. He typically didn't show this though, always trying to make the best of the situation. When he'd get sad he would tell himself, things like, "Just gives me more time to train" and similar types of things. He would always look at the bright side of everything, whether he was actually truly content with what he told himself or not. For these years Arend would simply train as much as he could, seeing his friend whenever time allowed.

    Teenage Years:

Arend was now 14, and his training was going very well. His teachers were all impressed with his skills with a sword for his age. Arend's constant training had led to him becoming quite strong, and just hoped that he had impressed his father for one in his life. Lennard however slipped back into a depression during these years drinking his nights away hardly paying attention to his son anymore. Arend was frustrated by this, and understood it more now than he did as a child, but as always he tried to make the best of it, and instead he would seek approval from his mother, his grandfather, and sometimes even Thomas when he was around.

When Arend was about 14 him and Thomas had a bit of an adventure. It was a night filled with one of their favorite activities, daring each other. At first it was filled with nothing but harmless pranks here and there, but eventually the dares got more and more risky until the final dare of the night. Thomas managed to sneak out some opium and the two were going to try it. Before they did though, Thomas had the idea to dare Arend to smoke it first, and to smoke as much as he could. Arend willingly accepted the dare and began smoking away. He sat their smoking almost all the opium Thomas had brought but Thomas wasn't even worried about trying it himself anymore, he was just enjoying watching his friend and knowing where this would go. Arend finally finished all the opium and at first he felt fine, but soon after he began feeling very sick and Thomas just laughed him for a while before taking him home to rest. Arend felt fairly humiliated and ever since he has hated the stuff. Him and Thomas look back on it now and joke, but Arend still refuses to use it now.

Arend was just turning 15 when he met the girl who would eventually become his wife. She was a young girl around the age of 13 named Lisbeth Adelina. She was probably the second true friend that Arend had made in his life. The two began spending as much time as they could together, Arend sometimes even missing his training to see her. Arend balanced his time between training and seeing Lisbeth up until around the time they got married, which was about the age of 16. They were married quite young, and they were happy by this for quite a long time. During this time Arend had broken his wrist during one of his training sessions and it never quite healed the same. He was quite bothered by this but in typical Arend style he hid this from his wife, pretending that everything was okay. The marriage was going well for the most part, but Lisbeth started catching on to Arend's habit of hiding the truth about his feelings and instead opting for more pleasant ones. She felts as if Arend was very fake, and tensions grew between the two. Lisbeth would confront Arend about it, but he would insist he was fine, convincing himself that he truly was, though deep down he was very confused about his emotions. This continued till about age 18 where Arend was given the opportunity to work for Thomas. He became his personal guard at first then going onto become his Juunker. At this point the tensions between him and his wife had come to a conclusion and they split up. Again, Arend not wanting to be a downer he never even told Thomas of his wife or now, former wife. Arend trained as Thomas' Juunker for a few years before the upcoming Ranger crisis.

    Adulthood:

Arend spent most of his early adulthood as a juunker to Thomas training to one day become a knight. He was also one of Thomas' personal guards when not focusing on his studies. He trained under Thomas all the way up until Thomas was sent out to lead the forces during the Ranger Crisis. Arend came with as a soldier in the fight against the Elves and Orcs. Arend took this as a way to finally prove himself through combat. He proved to be a capable fighter throughout the crisis, and sustained minimal injuries throughout the entire 5 years he was out there. He saw a lot of death and gruesome things while out there, but Arend being the eternal optimist that he is, tried to see the bright side in everything. He ultimately convinced himself that everything they were doing was justified, and suppressed his thoughts on all that he had taken in while there.
By the end of the crisis Arend was about 25 years old, and upon returning home he continued his studies with Thomas to become a knight and also serving as his personal guard once more.

Arend tried reconnecting with his wife after the Ranger crisis was over, but due to his studies and job as a guard for Thomas he wasn't really able to see her often. They reconnected for a small amount of time even buying each other rings thinking that things were getting better for the two. However the same problems seemed to develop once again quite quickly, as Arend was unwilling to talk about anything that happened during the Ranger Crisis. He acted as if it was nothing, and soon the two would split up again, eventually officially divorcing. Arend was ashamed of his divorce and tried his best to hide it, never telling Thomas at the time. He continued wearing the ring however as he wasn't really prepared to let her go. This is when Arend found his love for alcohol, turning into something similar to his father for some time. He began caring about little, spending most of his time drinking rather than continuing his training under Thomas. He had a huge falling out with Thomas where they argued for quite a while, one of the few times Arend actually opened up about his feelings, though Arend still hid the fact that it was mostly to do with his former wife. Him and Thomas made up afterwards though, and he fully dedicated himself to his studies now. He still drank on occasion but he never let himself get back to that point again. He spent then next few years continuing to study under Thomas and acting as his guard till around the age of 28.

    Recent Years:

Up until very recently Arend had fought on the front lines as a soldier in the Regalian army fighting the Qadir in Hadravia. At the beginning of the war, Arend had left his duties as a guard to Thomas, and put his studies on pause once again to help in the fight against the Qadir. He was just a normal soldier, but he did prove himself capable in combat once again, not sustaining any major wounds and overall just doing fairly well. He would still be there but he received word that he was to return to Regalia immediately if he chose to, and when he returned he would be made Thomas' leibgarde. Arend accepted, glad to be off the front lines for a bit, and be reunited with his good friend Thomas once again. Arend has just recently arrived in Regalia and has now been appointed to his new duty as leibgarde. He has only been back for a few days and has already seen that his job is going to be quite interesting.

    I am reviewing this character!
    • Damn. I'm hard-pressed to complain about anything; this is a damn good first-go application. There is one flaw I noticed; Arend is without a doubt a typical regalian soldier working his way to knighthood. Everything, from his likes to his strengths, reveals this. I challenge you however, to point out something that differs him from that sterotype; perhaps a like, or strength, or something in his backstory, that is unique to him, that makes him more than a soldier. Does he have a softspot for gardening? cooking? Does he detest blacksmiths due to an event in his past? There must be something -more- to him, so find it. Tag me when you're done @TheScruffyLJ
    Progress: Pending!

    @Jared4242

Thanks for the review! I think that was a good suggestion and I enjoyed writing in two things that I hope helped differentiate him from just another soldier.
    • I added 1 like and 1 dislike being Music for likes, and Opium as a dislike.
    • Added two small stories included under spoilers in the Life story. The two stories explain an event that happened with Arend helping develop his love for music, and the other describes the event that caused Arend to hate opium so much.
I hope that does it, if there's anything else, just let me know!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think you can have scars from bruises.

    You can.
I've got a scar from a simple bruise.

Technically no. Scars are usually formed from flesh wounds. Bruises are burst blood vessels with clear up over time.

Where is any of this even coming from? And why does it even matter?
