With all the barrages of text and nobles making announcements, it's very easy to misinterpret the ongoing Anglia situation as something that is only pertinent to the Regalian nobility, but far from that. The ongoing situation is one that inevitably affects everyone, and perhaps different from previous situations, allows some more creative leeway for players. Furthermore, perhaps differently from previous situations, we've concluded that the general problem of players not feeling involved is not the players failing to show a lack of initiative, or the staff not providing of enough means, but rather just a lack of information on how to bridge that gap - how to set the first steps to finding something to be hooked into for those who are the furthest removed from what goes on in the State Council Chamber, and not all of them require noble backing or even involvement. Below follows an inspiration list - that means to say - this list is not final and it does not even cover half the things that could be done. It merely offers some suggestions meant to spark the creativity of the players and to provide a base line for those who really have trouble being creative and coming up with their own plans to do something instead of just standing on the sidelines. If you can come up with something yourself but don't know if it's doable from a lore management stand point of view, send a concise message to @MonMarty where you explain what your character wants to do and I'll give you suggestions if you cannot, and how to go about it if you can.
What can I do:
What can I do:
- Anglia has a long border, and is relatively readily accessible, even for criminals who get smuggled out of Regalia. Any individual or group can reach the Tendril Mist, and try experiments on it. You can do so by sending a pm @MonMarty with a concise list of everyone involved, and a clear list of what you are doing. Avoid verbose explanations simply state stuff like "xyz character is throwing an apple into the mist and uses a spyglass to see what happens over an amount of hours", instead of "xyz character investigates the effects of biological degradation because they have a theory blablabla too much text". Expect a simple OOC fact list response in bullet point, but this information will be released privately to you in PM to avoid metagaming and to give people more reasons to compare their experimental results together.
- The whole situation has a lot of actors who all play a specific role, with their own motivations. Letter roleplay is kind of inferior, but to many of the actors, that is the only option available. Keep in mind though, letter roleplay with the royalty and nobility of the various areas that have declared some sort of stance is unlikely to succeed to simple commoners, since many of these people have vast resources and will only deal with people who also have vast resources. To contact any of the NPC actors, PM @MonMarty and write your IC letter. For letters, wording and theme are important to dictate the response of the NPC's, even if you will receive a very robotic factual bullet point list in response (because the Lore Staff don't have the time to write an IC letter back to everyone).
- What can you do IC? Try to influence the IC actors, the players in the State Council, the new formative Kade Council, the Regent Chancellors. The lore has a whole host of capacity and abilities that allow outside influence to take place. Furthermore, silently sitting and letting things happen that are against the wishes of your character seem rather boring. Who's to say you can't organize a protest march in the streets, or do a #occupytavern or #occupyslumgate to disrupt the ongoing of public life to gather attention to your cause.
- Progression missions are a bit more open now. https://forums.massivecraft.com/forms/player-progression-report.40/respond These aren't just locked down to nobles and organizations only anymore, any group of players can try to do anything in the scope of the Regalian capital. Please be aware however, that if your group intends to be contrarian, that you will probably suffer the consequences for that unless you make good rolls.
- Regalia is in immediate peril for food supplies. Anglia contained most of the winter storage and this means that while some food is generated elsewhere, a famine is almost guaranteed if whatever happened in Anglia does not get lifted before November. This means the world has a finite amount of food available, and groups should work to secure their own food supply at the expense of others. The Imperial Guards already raided the Regalian tavern taking all the food with them. Where is your character going to secure a food supply IC? Posting about it in comments on Progression posts is boring. How about looking for food stashes in-game and role playing out your attempts to secure them.
- There are still other unnatural elements that exist in Regalia. The Hellion Court, the circulation of certain artifacts, and a variety of hidden lore that requires one to dig a bit deeper than normal. Most of this relies on in-game proceedings, so try to avoid the Progression Form as much as possible for this.
- Condemnation letters and public declarations on the forums without a clear and precise call to action.
- Talking in Discord about how boring you think whatever is going on is, without making any effort to get involved.
- Responding only to the situation over the Progression posts with single-phrase responses.
- Spending time talking and plotting about the ongoing, but never putting any of these to actions. Generally if you've spent over a week planning already, chances are if you don't press into action you never will.
