Alms Ministry March Report:​

It is the Alms Ministry's desire to promote trust and transparency with matters concerning state funds, public donations, and community projects. Therefore, at the end of each month, a publicly available report of the ministry's doings will be available for review.

A letter from the Minister,

With new construction underway for the Alms Sanctuary, we appreciate the continued support and patience of the people and peerage of Regalia. While some events have been postponed during construction, we have still seen use of the facilities and have continued in our mission to serve the citizenry of this city, and the archipelago. This month, I would like to express my particular gratitude to our private donors. It is the Alms Ministry's intent that, particularly while war was waging, funding for our projects should come from private coffers. So it is with sincerest thanks that I continue to mention every person or entity which funds our projects, and why I list them by name each month, so that all of us can recognize those who give charitably. ​

There is also a sentiment I would like to address, which I feel each of us may be guilty of at some time. "I don't want people to starve, but I can't afford to feed them." "I want to help the city, but I don't have the time to volunteer." "I want the people to be safe, but I don't have the strength to protect them." There is a pervasive feeling of not knowing where or how to begin, and being paralyzed by this lack of direction, hinging on postponed meetings and slowed bureaucracies that limit progress. The Alms Ministry will strive to be a nexus of action within this city, the hands and the force of good will, a focusing lens for scattered intentions. Bring your ideas forth, and watch them blossom. A person cannot do everything, but every person can do something. Idleness is inexcusable in these times, when so many have the means and the desire for action. Let no more excuses be fostered; let us be a force, together, in this city and abroad.

Initiative 8: Auction Fundraiser
Mission statement: Gather donations from local craftspeople to host a charity auction suitable for both commoners and nobility
Status: In Progress

Plan:​

• Gather donations by meeting with donors/craftspeople [Ongoing]
• Secure an event location and catering [Complete]
• Publish event details on the Calendar [Postponed]
• Host the event and collect money [Postponed]

Initiative 10: The Alms Sanctuary
Mission Statement: Establish a second location to manage our community-oriented projects, host events, and house residents.
Status: In progress

Plan: ​

• Plan with the Finance Ministry for funding [complete]
• Plan the needs and layout for the facility [complete]
• Update informational flyers about the two buildings, and the new Sanctuary Clause [in progress]

Additional efforts:​

• Create a safety plan for the sake of a city emergency
• Host an open house to show the facility to the city

Initiative 11: Restoration Efforts in Hadar
Mission Statement: To mend some of the war-damaged areas of Hadar so that the people can return to work and to their homes.
Status: In progress

Plan: ​

• Seek funding for the project [complete]
• Seek architects, carpenters, and woodworkers to join the effort [complete]
• Officialize the plan for the restoration effort, and see the people and supplies sent off [in progress]

Initiative 12: Sharpening of Blades
Mission Statement: Donate whet stones, oils, and armor and weapon upkeeping supplies to the soldiers in Sendrass, and raise morale by touching up paint of their armor and shields.
Status: In progress

Plan: ​

• Brainstorm outreach methods with staff and visitors in the Alms. [Complete]
• Gather funds and donations to amass supplies, hire painters. Coordinate the effort. [Complete]
• Send supplies to the frontlines, to be distributed. [In progress]

Initiative 13: An Invitation to Refugees
Mission Statement: Assist Duchess van Hal with welcoming potential refugees from Hadar to earn coin in Anglia, working on farms.
Status: In progress

Plan: ​

• Brainstorm with the Duchess to come up with a way to support Anglian farmers, and assist the humanitarian crisis in Hadar. [Complete]
• Raise funds for the travel and initial expenses of Hadar immigration. [In Progress
• Hire a coordinator to see to the logistics of the travel arrangements. [In Progress]
• Await the Duchess's proclamations and schedule travel arrangements. [TBD]

This Month's Events
Our events are a mix of staff-led and community-led activities
​

Guard Appreciation - Mrs. Elena Aduro, passionate about showing the people's support for the members of the Violet Order, donated supplies and skill to teach others how to craft small favors for the guardsmen.

Mead-Making - Sera Humaira Reinard has seen to using the honey from our bee boxes to teach the public how to ferment honey-mead! (Ignore that one pressurized exploding jug).

Hiring Architects! - The Alms Minister met with carpenters, woodworkers, and other interested parties to send out for a restoration project in the archipelago!

Settling a Spirit - A wayward spirit found her way into the Alms Garrison this month, but thanks to the kindness of those gathered, it passed through peacefully and was directed to the appropriate religious authority.

Cleanup in the Velheim Square - After the unceremonious destruction of two Old Gods statues in the Velheim Square, volunteers assisted the Velheim community in clearing debris and erecting small temporary shrines in their place.

Sanctuary Auditorium's First Use! - The public Auditorium in the Alms Sanctuary saw its first use, as the Regalian Theological Society met to make use of the facility. Several Brutes accompanied the meeting, along with the Violet Order, promising the safety of the religious figures gathered within.

Honneurs Lessons - Lady Anne de Piedmont, in preparation for her Commoner's Ball, hosted a lesson in proper etiquette between the commonfolk and the nobility.

These projects are more day-to-day activities, and are headed by our Supervisors. Seek them out if you are interested, or apply for a position with your own ideas!​

Duchess Eponia Eledhwen: Organizes and runs self defense training classes.
Duchess Natharia Mac Conall: Oversees the Fire Brigade as Fire Chief, and oversees the Brute Squad
Sera Humaira Reinard: Forges and repairs weapons and tools/brews mead from bee boxes
Lady Anne de Piedmont: Hosts lessons in court honneurs and etiquette for all social levels
Duchess Tuija Viduggla: Offers many lectures on various topics
Tour Guides: Are invited to sign up to show newcomers around the city!

Currently Seeking Volunteers for the Gladdamat Festival on April 2nd!

Anyone is free to jump in and stir up activity at our vegetable garden or in the public kitchen at any time! The courtyard is also a public space available for socializing. The Alms Sanctuary has an Auditorium that can be reserved for any gathering. Anyone seeking to join the Fire Brigade or Brute Squad should seek out Duchess Natharia Mac Conall! The Alms Ministry recognizes the following volunteers for particular efforts this month:​

Brute of the Month: Quin has been promoted to Brute Enforcer, for his role in halting gang activity and saving the life of a member of the peerage within the Alms Garrison.
Volunteer of the Month: Elena Aduro, for her devotion to serving the people of this city, and her constant willingness to give her time to charitable projects.

For those seeking to Volunteer, there is no application necessary. Simply engage with the Alms Ministry Safe House by showing up for day to day activities or events. (( Anyone can ping for RP in the Alms Discord - linked below))

Our ongoing projects are headed by Supervisors who bring ideas to us. The projects can have definitive goals or events, or they can be day to day activities. Supervisors should enjoy creating engaging activities for others to participate in. All are welcome to apply, with their ideas.

Have a specific project idea in mind? The Alms Minister has the right to approve construction projects, and to assemble ad hoc committees for the purpose of achieving goals within the city, and across the archipelago. Meet with Duchess Sivrid Sorenvik to discuss how to implement your ideas!
