Spoiler: Personality Questions (Optional) Personality Questions (optional) How would your character express Happiness and Contentedness? Alexis is not a particularly unreadable person when it comes to expressing joy. She will often telegraph her happiness through light laughter or a wisping smile. This is different from her more subtle displays of contentedness which usually manifest in a more relaxed posture and freer less closed off and formal speech. How would your character respond to experiencing Fear? When Alexis is in a stressful situation she is immediately seized by tight anxiety which manifests in increasingly stern and abrasive or even enraged commands towards her allies. While she has dealt with many stressful situations throughout her life her fight or flight response still kicks into overdrive during these frightening situations resulting in her decision making becoming far more likely to be flawed and impulsive. How would your character respond to experiencing Stress? When experiencing anxiety Alexis closes off and defaults to a cold and distant veneer meant to appear strong or intimidating. This has resulted from years in the orphanage of very little empathy being shown towards Alexis which has caused Alexis to develop this very defensive response to stress. How does your character view Law and Authorities? Alexis sees the emperor as the ultimate authority and sees the state under him as the center of order throughout the world. There are very few things Alexis despises more than corruption within the state with Alexis even going so far as to call out a Lord Chancellor for attempts at bribing her. How does your character feel about Races other than their own? While Alexis holds general indifference towards most races, she holds Ailor in the highest regard as the superior race out of them all. She is very proud of her Ailor heritage and stresses it through constant displays of her Calderliga Culture and devotion to the empire. Despite her indifference towards most races, she holds two races in particularly low regard, those being Orcs and Url. She views Orcs as a barbarian race unfit for much beyond physical labor and certainly not fit for any claims to a scholarly title or background. During her time in the crown city, Alexis has come to the conclusion that Urls are a race of draconic aberrant who has been unnaturally turned into corrupt only semi-human beings. How does your character feel about Religion for themselves and other faiths? Alexis views faith as something earned not given leading her to choose the faith she follows with an air of skepticism and wariness. While she believes many of the deities worshipped throughout Aloria's many faiths exist, she believes many of them (such as Estel or the Blue Crown Dragons) are corrupt and do not work for the good of the world but instead corrupt it. This has caused her to wish to see the end of many faiths based around Void, Exist, or Blue Crown Dragon worship. How does your character feel about the Arcane and Magical in the world? Alexis views all things from any other dimension as unnatural and corrupting forces which cause decay and breakdown in the natural world. This includes Void, Exist, and Primal Blue Crown Dragon-sourced energies. She has made it her life's work to remove these forces from the world and stop all who harbor them from using or accessing them. How does your character feel about their family? While Alexis views her biological parents as failures who were unable to do even their most basic duty, she holds great affection towards her mentor Karsten Magnus viewing him as a father figure. She has yet to really come to any concrete conclusions about her newly discovered sister Alex Schreiber. What is your character the proudest of about themselves? Her knowledge of the arcane and several other scholarly fields and ability to fight the arcane. She will take every opportunity she can to mention her very high aptitude in the field of magical knowledge or even state her superiority in the field as a fact. What motivates your character to move forward and better their life? Her quest to return the empire and its founding tenets so that it can return to its "Golden Age" of conservatism and dominance under the Grand Vigils Nicholas and Aletta. This has all led her to believe that the "Arcane Rennaisance" in the crown city characterized by a growing acceptance of magic and aberrancy must be stopped at all costs for the good of the empire. What is your character's biggest insecurity? That she despite her many years of study still fails to even begin to fully understand magic or the planes and she truly may be as much of a failure as a scholar and to the emperor as others make her out to be. What is your character's biggest fear? Magical corruption spreading throughout the empire and taking over. Spoiler: Weaknesses Weaknesses: Prideful-Alexis never misses a chance to subtly boast about her competence or ableness often stating it as a fact. Alexis quite literally can not accept that she is wrong in her chosen field and will continue to attempt to prove her theories despite clear evidence to the contrary. She will even convince herself that something means something it does not fitting all facts to match her point of view making her quite the hypocrite, though she is unable to realize it. Those who question her assertion often find themselves quickly struck back at. "Principled"-Alexis's anti-magic beliefs were taught to her by her mentor and will likely be with her until the day she dies. She sees all magic as inherently corrupting and perverse and any person changed by magic as having being corrupted requiring curing or elimination. She simply can not develop a healthy positive relationship with an aberrant due to these deeply ingrained teachings. This includes primal, exist, and void based magics and likely any other types she may encounter. She still finds that the Blue Crown Dragons are illegitimate and corrupted by continuous passage through human lineage which has exposed them to planar and their works perverse. This has led her to treat most draconic sites and aberrants with the same level of disdain she would treat one of the void or exist with. Scholarly-Alexis has never been one for one on one combat and if alone against a trained combatant or group of combatants is in most cases unable to do anything other than flee. She is able to use alchemy and her puretek to defend herself sometimes but is still clearly not a combatant and much prefers group combat where she can stand back and help her allies to dispatch foes. She was raised in a Unionist Orphanage along with many other rowdy children during this upbringing a small girl like herself was forced to learn to defend herself a foundation that was expanded upon later in life. They were all taught a more respectable Ailor language of the New Regalian (specifically the Calderliga Dialect) being forced to learn it in favor of any mother tongue. Any child caught speaking “in tongues” was punished harshly needless to say this upbringing was less than ideal though she had a sort of beacon of hope in the few books she could get her hands on specifically those dealing with magic and fantasy. Of course, those books were prohibited to the highest degree but that only added to the fun. As she grew she was able to swipe these books more and more reading them by the window in the dead of night. At age 16 she was more than happy to leave the orphanage the days of grueling labor and “schooling” being put behind her she quickly took up a job in a bookstore during the day along with a job as a waitress during the evening. While she had hardly any time to herself barely being able to sleep and eat in the few hours she had to herself she was happier than she had ever been before. She wrote to many scholars, arcanists, and hunters of the unnatural asking for one to take her under their wing as some sort of apprentice so that she could continue to delve into her fascination with the arcane. Though she was denied many times calling her “horribly inexperienced” “a woman with a hobby and nothing more” and “unfit for the trials she would face” she continued to write fervently to not being dissuaded from her passion. Finally, she found an arcanist willing to take her in The Calderliga Union a costly carriage ride between her and her dreams requiring the entirety of her savings no small commitment but her desperation for such an opportunity got the better of her and she found herself on the borders of the Calderliga Union undertaking one of the most arduous programs of study in her chosen field. No matter the difficulty she loved every moment of it taking on challenge after challenge she spent many late nights studying and long days of training. Her education in the field was shaped by the growing purist movement which would come to flourish under Justinian later and the at the time highly successful Azure Order. Alexis would go so far as to learn Modern Altalar from a local Ailor linguistic scholar so that she could delve into the sea of Altalar texts on magic and the arcane. However, while she read these texts she would come to be disgusted by their veneration of mages and Altalar superiority only growing more resolute in her revulsion towards those who worship and deify magic and its users. Once her training was completed at the age of 24 she began to serve as an assistant to her master learning all she could from his experience for 11 years. She then while continuing her studies into the arcane and acting as an arcanist in the union, began apprenticing during her nights under an alchemist who taught her many remedies and even some offensive mixtures which she made use of in her hunting of aberrants. This in addition to many texts some Altalar though she would be unlikely to admit it helped her to create a foundation in alchemy she would build upon for many decades. Despite the usefulness of her alchemical mixtures, Alexis would come to realize they worked best when paired with basic bandaging and first aid prompting her to learn the very basics of field medicine which would help her many times during her work as an arcanist. She would study in this way for many more years. Despite her success in her studies and work as an arcanist, this state of constantly living in the shadow of others eventually began to take a toll on her causing her to grow bored and apathetic. In an attempt to escape this dreary state she chose to follow the most interesting lead she could find on of Arken within the crown city something that excites her to no end. She quickly set off to Regalia hoping to find truth in these rumors and take them on. Recent Times "If you just set out to be liked, you will be prepared to compromise on anything at anytime, and would achieve nothing." -Alexis found a job at the Regalian College initially serving as a part-time lecturer on the arcane before displaying her talents in a brief on Phantasma earning the title of a full-time professor of the arcane. -Alexis continued lecturing to the general public gaining some small amount of recognition. -Alexis was appointed Secretary of the Magi along with 2 others (Valaroosta Baal'ial and Valerie Du Brierust) entering the world of politics. -Alexis served as a Secretary for the Magi for about four months. -The government was reorganized into the noble assembly resulting in the position of Secretary for the Magi being dissolved. While Alexis was shocked at first, this quickly transformed into relief as she was able to return to a less public political lifestyle. -Alexis sets her sights towards finding means and funding to investigate and destroy the arcane phenomena plaguing the crown city. -Alexis was a founding leader of the Holy Divine Inquisition who organized its structure and served as its Grand Arcanist for a whole 3 days before losing the position.
@Havsbris_ Added hobby points since she is a half Sihai and became Imperial applied the Etosian Magical knowledge cap and took the other visual arts cap while applying Imperial arts cap to musical knowledge
Claimed. Please bring 5 points from puretek weapons due to it being relatively new and 10 points seem awfully high. She also needs access to proper training ic using a puretek weapon. @KK134
@Nesstro Done 2 questions though: Are you my reviewer now and where would I get IC training if it's so new?
@Nesstro Removed +5 unarmed, +3 history knowledge, and +2 diplomatic case skill to replace it with +10 alchemy sciences to get in on that spiffy new alchemy update
Moved 5 points from Magical Knowledge to Alchemy. She now has Shatterology, Sanguinology, Dimenthism, Racialism, and Artifactism.
@Nesstro Application updated for virtuoso permission, Alexis aged up to 45. I'm asking for a Re-Review.
Moved 3 hobby points to visual arts because I've noticed Alexis keeps sketching stuff and it only felt appropriate.
@Nesstro Added optional personality questions and accidentally lost the approved tag. Could you add it back?
I have come to realize this character is very much Lawful Evil despite them thinking that what they are doing is for the good of the state and empire.
Switched to just being fully New Regalian in culture rather than Calderliga. It made more sense ultimately given her philosophy and the fact that she has been strongly influenced by the ideas of rationalism and Harte-Ziele.
@Nesstro Alexis has been attacked and infected by indyfan's Cratos Vampire. Mutations added in spoiler.
@Nesstro Proficiencies moved around in accordance with self-revocation of virtuoso permission: -5 Magical Knowledge -1 Puretek Combat Skill +3 Historical Knowledge (Dragon History) +3 Linguistic Knowledge (Modern Altalar) with blue passage added to backstory to clarify how she learned it. Requesting Re-Review!
And she has been changed to a fully Ailor Norean and subsequently aged up 10 years. 10 points distributed among: +1 puretek combat skill +3 historical knowledge (ancient history) +5 Alchemy Sciences +1 medical knowledge All mentions of Estling race removed and backstory edits in blue.
