Victor sat gazing at his reflection in the murky waters of the puddle that lay before him. He wasn't sure what exactly stared back at him. As he sat there among the rot and filth he got lost in his thoughts of an era long past.. "Victor, come down stairs honey, or you'll miss breakfast!" Lucille cried from down stairs. Victor groggily woke up from the sound of his wife's voice, he proceeded to wipe the 'sleep' from his eyes and went to dress himself in a simple shirt and trousers and proceeded to head downstairs. Lucille was there in the kitchen with a large smorgasbord of breakfast items set out on the kitchen table. "You have been busy.." "What's the occasion?" Victor inquired perking a brow. Lucille chucked "come now Victor don't tell me you forgot what day it is, it's a very special day." Victor paused for a moment then it clicked, he had forgotten that it was his own birthday. Lucille saw that victor finally understood and she beamed at him "Come and eat, or am I going to have to eat all this food by myself?" she would start walking to the table when suddenly she started to have a coughing fit. Concern filled Victor's face he moved to be at his wife's side "Is everything alright Lucille?" Lucille paused for a moment to catch her breath "Yes Victor I am fine, its ok really." She looked into his eyes but could clearly see he was not buying it. Victor's brows furrow "How long have you been like this? More importantly why hide it from me?" Lucille offered him a weak smile "I didn't want you to worry is all.." she began to cough once more.
The following day Victor had the local doctor come in for a diagnosis "hmm I've seen this before, your wife has Pneumonia or something, I am sorry, there is nothing more that I can do." the doctor said softly. Victor was taken aback by the response "Is there nothing you can do?" he inquired. The doctor replied with a simple no and stepped out the door. Victor sent his wife to rest up in bed, he did not sleep that night, how could he? Days went by and Lucille's condition got worse so Victor went to the local chapel, being the devote man that he was, and hoped that the Imperial Spirit would aid him in his time of need. "Please oh great imperial spirit.." "If you can hear me, please save my wife, she's the most kind and caring woman to walk Aloria." "I have been faithful to you for many years and so has she." Victor sat there for a long time in the pew, he hoped that his prayers had been answered. When Victor returned home it was well into the evening, he slowly made his way upstairs to where his wife lay sleeping, Victor gently roused her, she looked up at him a light smile upon her features, "you've been gone longer than usual. Lately you've been unable to leave my side." Victor returned her smile with one of his own, "Even in such a condition you still are able to make me smile" Victor replied. Lucille looked into his eyes she paused as if wanting to tell him something but couldn't find the words. "Victor.. Remember whatever happens and wherever you may be. I will always love you." "Your a good man Victor Ellis Crowe, I wish for your happiness wherever fate ta-" as Lucille trailed off her head gently lulled to the side as she breathed her last. It took Victor a moment then he began to panic "Lucille? Lucille!" "Why! Why!" Victor would look up to the heavens tears flowing freely "Why have you done this to me! I've been nothing but devote.." "what have I done to deserve this!" he pauses suddenly becoming quite angry "Damn you! Damn you and your lies you could have spared this one's fate, yet you let her die.." "I renounce my faith Imperial Spirit for you have forsaken me in my time of need.." From this moment forth you are nothing to me." Victor hurriedly packed his things, he paused spotting the locket the Lucille had bought for him, remembering her last words he decided to take it with him and proceeded to flee into the night.. Victor was back now in the cold Regalian sewers, he removed an old rusty locket from around his neck, and opened it, there was his wife staring back at him he paused for a moment remembering her last words to him all those years ago. "I wish there was something I could have done to save you, my dear, but such is the will of fate." he slowly closed the locket and put it back around his neck. Victor sat there in the dark tunnels, cold and alone.
