Hello. My name's Barbas. Today, I'm here to talk to you about originality in character names, specifically surnames. Over the past 2 and a quarter (!) years I've been here, names for peoples characters have always varied in originality from "Fang Darkblood" to, say, "Alexander Kade". However, it's got to the point where I can't walk into the tavern without meeting either a trademark/copyrighted name of a famous game/book/movie character like "Stephan Kenway" or some two edgy words put together like the aforementioned "Darkblood" and it's come to the point where I have had about enough.

I'm 99% sure this has already been addressed by staff a while ago, but I thought I'd just make a statement here. I know it doesn't apply to most (if not all) of the people reading this but if you are reading this, either try help people like this out or if you are like this, try do something to change. Hell, I'd be willing to help you think of a name at this point. Semi rant over, hope you take something away from this.

Thank you and happy new year. (Feel free to move this if it's in the wrong section, staff)

-makes a character called Knifer McKnife- "He likes to stab people with knives." :P

(I just realized how awesomely hilarious that name is lol)

You should try conversing with people who possess unoriginal/bland names. Offer your help with creating better names in a nice and polite manner. I think its a better alternative than throwing a message out into the ocean that is the forums. :)

Already started with a few people in my faction. Nice to see you by the way <3

Whenever I personally do my names on my own as of recent, they /generally/ end up rather unique or original, more so because it's me putting a bunch of letters together.

Generally I'd make names like Ninria Slanti, Ha'nia Alqui, or uh.. I forgot the other good names I have. But, there's also Alea's name that I somewhat regret, but I can't really change it at this point because she's such an old character. While I do somewhat regret the name Alea Ash because it doesn't sound like the most realistic of names. But, I do agree. I do think that when making names its best to be a bit more original, and avoid using /actual/ words. It's best in my thought literally to mash things together 'til it makes a somewhat legit name. ..But uh, yeah. I'm going to stop rambling now.

Don't forget me being Elsa.
Oh, I think it should be thrown out there that you can't use copyrighted named for OOC either, apparently.

I have a relatively similar problem
with the lack of new names, or the simply over used ones.
As well as people taking human names, and putting an apostrophe
in front of the second letter to make it "Kleinfolk"
No. You're just misusing an apostrophe now.

Edit: I think I'ma make a simple naming guide now.
Since I'm thinking about it.

Ooh, nice plan. Might help you on that if you want.
