A Nightmare to Remember
It's a dark and dreary October's night and Connak lies awake in bed. The soft tapping of the rain against the attic windows is the only thing keeping him from going mad. It always feels like yesterday when he was back home in Hallonq, peering over the cold and bloody corpse of his fiance. "Alessa, I miss you dearly." He quietly whispers to himself as he clutches her locket. The Manathar lets out a soft, somber sigh as he tries to fall asleep, only to have the nightmare from that horrific October night twenty years ago. Minutes pass, and the nightmare begins. It starts off the same every time with Connak kneeling over his Fiance with a bloodied dagger in his grip, blood smeared across the bed sheet and hands, and blood splattered on his face, chest, and the walls. The second he realizes what he has done in this nightmare, he falls to the ground, breaking his sleep as he jerks himself wake into a seated fashion. As the rain picks up, Connak gently weeps as he remembers that cursed night, unable to forget it. As he swings his legs to the ground, he stops his weeping and gathers his clothing to cover his heavily scarred torso. Slow to put on his clothing, all he can think about is how he promised Alessa that he would do anything for her, even bleed for her. "Forever you said." are the only words that distantly echo in Connak's mind, the last words Alessa said to him before her death. As Connak descends down to his front door, he makes sure he has everything. "Dagger, check. Coin, check. Locket?" He quietly mumbles to himself as he tries to remember if he grabbed the locket. The rogue pats him pockets to make sure he has the only thing that really means something to him. After patting himself for the locket, he feels it in his left breast pocket. He lets out a sigh of relief as he slowly opens the door, venturing off to the dark street only to set his mind at ease.
