It was midday as the sun's rays slammed down onto sparring grounds just outside of a large stone building. Boots were heard scraping against the gravel. Metal clashed together as blades connected with one another. Grunts and huffs came from the youth as he ducked and jumped around his mentor, attempting to keep up with the much more skilled of this spar.
The mentor had his long black hair tied back into a ponytail and presented a scruffy beard along with a well built and trained form. He announced his actions to the youth before he made the moves and thus the youth would counter him best he could.
The youth had darker skin and curly brown hair, only having just started to sprout more proper facial hair. Wielding two daggers, matching his mentor, he fended him off as the moves were shouted and then made. A groan of pain then escaped the youth as he hit the ground having been swept off his feet.
"Agh." the young man paused as he glanced up to his mentor; squinting due to the sun. "You cheated. You said left but went right."
"Hmph, you think an assailant will be trustworthy? No. A man looking to kill you does not care how he does it." The older man turned and stepped away "To your feet, come on."
Quickly getting to his feet and dusting off his pants, the lad took up his readied stance, peering over to his mentor with a more shocked look than anything. As the man turned to face his pupil he spoke once more, readying himself. "Honor will get you killed, Leon, know this. Remember it. Beat it into your mind if you have to for that is the most important lesson of all. There are no fair fights in this world if you wish to survive."
The last of those words faded as Leonzio snapped back out of his vision, looking over the dirt and cobble trail he walked.
