When I travel Deandroc and Ellador what do I see?
I see floating treetops from lazy lumberjacks,
I see dirt blocks floating in mid air,
I see cobble towers here and there,
I see rivers and coasts with giant sections of water missing,
I see giant squares in the ground from excavations,
I see griefed terrain.
Now the question is, what do we do about it?
I feel a need to organize a group to clean up Deandroc and Ellador to maintain
the server's beauty.
How do you feel about this project?

There's already a post for cleaning up Daendroc. Ellador isn't that bad, yet.

Something like this has come up in the past. Best way is to set up a group that is dedicated to maintaining the server's beauty, as you said. It's another way to build stats as well as feel some kind of unity between each other while tearing and fixing. Good luck.

@ Tax - Yet.

While I agree having a group of people dedicated to keeping Ellador clean, I think we need to be a tad more harsh about players destroying the landscape.

Firstly, there should be some sort of announcement concerning what NOT to do in the worlds (floating trees, buildings, non RP builds etc).
Should people choose to ignore the warning, and there is proof of them greifing the landscape, then I really think some sort of punishment should take place. Perhaps, if proof is presented of a person destroying the landscape, they could be temp. jailed, or something similar.

I don't know if the above is a good solution or not. But really, I recall the mods saying they would punish those who made non RP builds, and take them down, if they can. I know the team is ridiculously busy at the moment, but it is a very pressing issue. Ellador won't stay nice for long...

We need to clean Daendroc, we need to KEEP Ellador clean.

Well, I personally think that there should NOT be punishment for damaging the natural world. Yes, floating blocks aren't RP, but that is why you have nice people (or people with OCD) remove them and return the world back to it's natural state. If everyone who complained about these worlds would just fix it when they saw it, there wouldn't be a problem...

But if people are not going to fix their mess, it should not be up to other members of the community to take care of it. They can't keep greifing the world, they need to understand that's not liked on this server. If the threat of a jail was over the people who leave floating buildings, they may stop it altogether.

I don't like the idea of a sandbox game being regulated by such strict rules. So what if I want to make a floating city? Big whup! The magic of minecraft is that you can do that! By making rules that say you can't, you take away from the very core features of the game, and no one wants that. At least, I don't.

I have no issues with floating buildings, so long as they aren't within sight of my territories. If they are, I take them down. Simple.

Floating buildings aren't RP in most of the cases....Magic really cannot explaine why there is a floating thing up there. I would have a concept that covers this.....
  • Introduce that some magic ishappening in your place on the forums and add a forum Rp to it
  • Set up magical points where mages have to stand...
  • Make a RP mini-event where you invite a lot of factions
  • Try to higher up the landscape by magic...
  • Fail at this attempt...
  • After the people are gone, rework the landscape (make a cool whole in the ground)
  • Form the same landscape in the air somewhere..
  • Invite people again...Show this off to them telling it worked.
  • Adding chains so it doesn't float away..
  • Adding roots of trees and vines to it...
And there finally is your RP approved floating Island (maybe 30-50 Blocks above ground)!
.....but there is nothing like this usually. Most of the floating citys are build, that others can't gain access in no way. And that's not correct RP wise....

Well actually... when you think about it, the only real reason, Roleplay and Ingame, for having a floating city is either a) shock and awe, or b) protection. Why put the effort into getting up there if you don't want to be safe from attack?

As for your idea... I had a similar one to it, except my idea involved a solid 'marble' (clay) coating around the skyland with a small town on top made of marble (clay) as well. I would probably use glowstone to be the floating magics. :D

The fact is, this is a RP server. Not a very strict one (we allow non RP skins and such) but a RP server nonetheless. We can't have stuff that breaks people's immersion. If I am walking along a road, and see a floating tree, my immersion is broken a bit, and I remember I'm playing Minecraft, not some great medieval fantasy RPG. If you build ugly floating buildings, they should be taken down. And again, we really need to enforce these rules more, or at least give players a reminder that greifing the world or doing non RP builds is NOT appreciated.

The fact of the matter is that this IS a minecraft game. Not some epic midieval fantasy game like Skyrim. Minecraft. And in minecraft, mountain can float, houses fly, and trees don't need to be attached to the ground. Theoretically, the admins could install a global gravity and have it activate every 24 hours or so, but that would wreck hell with the server and tick off a lot of people.

The only reasonable way to stop this 'natural greifing' is to have it added to the entrance information. Then they at least know we don't like it. Faction leaders could help by stating as such to their new members, and perhaps an announcement could be set up to remind everyone. I do not, and never will, think that there should be punishment for playing minecraft.

I started yesterday on my own cleaning up deandroc. However it was too laggy for me to continue for long. I have money to spend on a demolition team. They can show me when, what is cleaned down to the ground and I will pay them.

I'm working on the area near me in Ellador in my free time. Just taking the gravel I find while mining and using it to fill in some massive holes in the paths. I'll probably start on floating trees in the area later.

From time to time, I'll organize a spontanious action of cleaning up. New people spawn at Ceardia, so I and some others (Zanip, openpit, maks, eramag...) have re-planted and re-designed the landscape around the northern shipping point in Ceardia.
As you can see, it gained pretty :) (it's a direct link to the location)
Minecraft Dynamic Map

Maybe make this a bit more frequently? Every weak or so?

I'm far too lazy and/or busy to do much, but I am building a few bridges, and fixing up the paths a little bit, as well as removing unwanted creations..[DOUBLEPOST=1355491456][/DOUBLEPOST]

Nice. :D

We cleaned up around our Daendroc area before we moved to Ellador. I make a big effort to keep the land around my faction clean. I frequently find that passersby have have taken down trees and left floating leaves or they have dug up dirt/sand/ice and I repair these areas as well. While I would love to clean up ravaged areas, I find it takes a lot of my time just keeping the areas near my faction home clean and pretty looking. I would love to see people clean up their messes though because I enjoy each of the lands where they aren't damaged.

A weekly clean-up team sound fantastic. I still insist players should be punished for doing this kinda stuff, but at the very least, we should try and make Ellador and Daendroc nicer.

Punishment for this kind of thing is difficult. I actively work to repair the world, but in getting resources to do this I often make places that need to be patched themselves. I do this, but it might be a day or 2 given what is happening irl. If I were continually jailed because the clean-up wasn't done yet, I would be forced to stop cleaning up. The fact is active construction or demolition can be messy, it is the end result that we need to worry about.

Heres a rule and a motto of mine that i feel gos with this page, and it is something that every noob faction that is created on the server should know.

*If at First YOU dont SUCCEED, DESTROY all EVIDENCE that it was YOU that ever tried!!!*

I used to know alot of people that went by this rule, but now they just are too lazy to take things down...[DOUBLEPOST=1356325726][/DOUBLEPOST]Stop the Ugliness! Keep our worlds Clean! Join the MassiveCraft Demolition Corps today!!!

Just thought I'd throw it out there that I would be more than happy to help clean up if we get a crew going. I'm usually on TS so hit me up if you need a hand.

there's a mod that exists that will automatically delete leaves that aren't attached to wood or that are floating. that may be an interesting solution.

I really don't care if people think they are safe in floating cities. I know how to make a perpetual motion flying machine in minecraft, so i'll just fly over and arrow them to death.
