Unpopular opinion but this quote by @Jackmo_Jones really hit me:
The people that are still into MC and do like to PVP with 1.9 mechanics they come to Massive and see the old spammy way of fighting and instantly say screw it that's no fun

I'll admit, back when 1.9 was in snapshot phase, I went to kit pvp servers that utilized the new mechanics. And I liked it. It was different, yes, but t also was a breath of fresh air into a system that was basically the same thing since the beginning.

I'll accept many of us still prefer the 1.8 system (darkrooming is a pain without it) but at the same time we never truly gave the system a test. We just said we didn't like it and went our own way.

Sure, a lot of servers have similar 1.8 systems, but I honestly wonder if 1.9 combat is a niche for other players.

So, I'm suggesting that we have normal 1.9 (or I guess 1.11 combat now) for a survival map in the future. I'm assuming that this might bring some niche players who are looking for 1.9 combat, but can never find any servers.

Worst case scenario, if there isn't any progress it can just revert to the normal Massive PvP setup.

I'd support this. As someone who never did much 1.8 PVP, I quite enjoy 1.9's system when I've played on friend's private servers.

I like the idea. We could have sort of a Darwinistic face off to see which style is the preferred style from all players. If 1.9 did win that doesn't mean 1.8 has to disappear you could just make a place in KitPVP that allows for the hybrid system we have now or maybe even a full map with those rules if possible.

Unfortunately Mojang decided to split the players in 2 but Massive could be a place where we bring all those folks back together under one server.

IDK how hard it would be to code all this both with staff limitations or just excessive time consuming coding being too hard to pull off but I really do think doing something like this would increase the amount of PVPers that will want to play on Massive. Also for those of us that like 1.8 mechanics we would have a chance to get some 1.9'ers to try our style and who knows maybe they'll like it too when they get used to it and vice versa for 1.8'ers.

as long as the other worlds stay the same, I'd like this. Will gives us a chance to at least test out the new mechanics on a bigger scale.

Noted as a feature suggestion, though such a thing may be disorienting for new players if they are trying to juggle between learning mechanics for multiple worlds.

I have seen the more... stupidly huge factions servers pull off way more complex differences between worlds, but I get the possible issues with confusion...

Maybe putting it in bold red at the portal would be enough, though I have seen players walk past that kind of stuff on servers before only to ask questions that the BOLD RED FLOATING GOD-WORDS IN THEIR FACE told them 10 seconds ago. But eh, if people are that dense nothing would get to them- aaand im rambling sorry >.<

Though i have to agree with @Omnomivore that it might seem very confusing to a new player who is having to learn all of Massive as it is, to then have to add "One world has different combat mechanics"
