Massivecraft Yay Or Nay

Pros: Best RP server going, passes a lot of time
Cons: Regalia. It's a mess. I admit that the things that are built look amazing and the Staff have done a great job. It just disappoints me that there are so many:
>Houses that can't be rented
>Floating buildings which look so stupid
There is also the matter of how the city looks outside of its walls, there ard hole chunks which have just been flattened and left. If this was problem that has been visible for about a week I wouldn't care but it's been months, even half a year, where Regalia just looks a complete mess. Plus whenever it begins to look finished the buildings seem to think "oh wait we need to change a whole street or make a new prison" when they are already done. It seems to just be going in a loop. I hope that improvements are made in the future which can finally make Regalia a finish city, not one that is about 1/3 done

Now that non-premiums and premiums are balanced in PvP and overall performance on massivecraft, there isn't much to complain about. Everything about MassiveCraft is good, except for a few things.

-Server Issues: In the last month or so the servers have been experiencing more problems than I've noticed ever before. Still, its above par compared to many servers.

-Policies on chat: I know that the server mods and owners work pretty hard to keep things in order sometimes, but coming from a person that was the owner of a "clan" of sorts in a game, who's website had 6 million or more hits, and had a chat that had to be regulated the same way as massivecraft's, I think that the punishments for people saying something silly or stupid need to be toned down. I know a good few examples when a lapse in judgement led to a person being permanently banned (I won't mention the names because I know that mentioning banned players is frowned upon). I for one was once muted for telling someone to stop flaming in global chat.
Otherwise, the server does a good job with how it handles punishments.

Pro: Pretty much everything except for my con
Con: Two equally awesome communities (PvP and RP) that neither think are a equal.

Pros: MassiveCraft has a great RP community, wonderfully built worlds, and some of the best staff of any minecraft server I've been on.

Cons: Character Apps are too limited (your character MUST have 4 positive and 4 negative personality traits. Hell, I don't have that many traits total!), PvP could use some fixing or an in-house plugin rather than MCmmo, and we need a proper siege plugin to replace enderpearls.

Pros:
+ Massivecraft has a community made up of very unique and helpful members. It is almost impossible to come onto this server without making one or two friends. Though keeping them is another matter...
+ Out of every community I have been a part of, Massive's is the only one where I have gotten the chance to speak to its leaders. It gives me, as a member of Massivecraft, some sense of power to know that I have the ability to reason with the directors of my in game fate.
+ The programming that has been poured into this server never ceases to amaze me. I rely heavily on it, yet I rarely verbally acknowledge its source. I'm not big on the compliments, so instead I try to return the favor by helping in as many ways as I can.
+ I used to roleplay before I came to Massive, but Massive was the site that actually pushed me into responding with more than a few sentences. I came here wanting to be the best roleplayer the server had ever seen. I still have that goal, but my focuses are directed to some other things at the moment.
+ I don't care what any of the people on the forums, the streets of regalia, or up to me in person say. Massive's PvP system is one of the most innovative PvP systems I have ever seen. It may have flaws, but in reality, it has very little flaws compared to the PvP systems of other servers (and video games in general). What matters is the potential it has to become something great.

Cons: I don't feel as though this is the right time or place to be discussing Massive's faults. Too many people consider Massive to be perfect for my words to hold any weight.

Pros: Massivecraft has a quirky mixture of people that are die-hard LOVING of RP and die-hard LOVING of PvP, as well as people that are in the middle of this divide. That being said, the server literally has something for everyone.

The architecture is AMAZING in many places. There is an incredible and dedicated staff that is committed to making the server the best possible place that it can be. There are also some pretty fun events for different seasons!

The Lore is one of the most detailed and advanced lores that have ever existed on a server and definitely more advanced than many other forms of media as well.

The little bit of PvPing that I've done has both been an incredible annoyance and yet, slightly fun. I can definitely see why people would be attracted to it. With the different stats and traits that exist in order to make pvp more specified, people can literally fight however they want! If people want to beat someone to death with an axe, they can, if they want to raise an army of dogs to do their bidding, they can! It's a great variety of skills and possibilities.

That being said....

Cons: The mixture of PvP and RP makes an inevitable and unfortunate feeling of inferiority to some people and a feeling of superiority to others. Also, people that are hardcore RP do not feel that they should be required to train skills in order to survive in their factions (factions that many times have walls that, without enderpearls, would be impenetrable). The hardcore PvP scene constantly calls them down for being "crybabies" or "p***ies" that should just suck it up and train their skills. The hardcore RP scene constantly calls the PvP scene out on being "a**holes" or "try-hards" that should just leave them alone and let them have their fun. Is either side technically right? Yes, and no. Yes, PvPers should respect the wishes of a faction that wishes to be strict RP and should leave said factions alone and yes, RPers SHOULD be able to defend in case of attacks. No, PvPers should not think any less of RPers that wish to be left alone and no, RPers should not down people for having fun in their own way. This is the divide that exists on the server and needs to be abolished before the server could be considered "perfect" community-wise. (However, if a perfect balance were to ever exist between the two communities, something else might also come up which causes a new split but meh, I like to be optimistic.)

The architecture, though amazing, seems hectic and confusing. The city also never seems to be completed, I understand that the build team wants to make the city perfect, however, with ever changing views and ideas, the city can realistically never be "perfect." Instead of constantly changing and moving things in the city, focus on perfecting certain areas in the city (preferably the areas used for housing) and then when satisfied, move on to other parts.

The lore is amazing, however, the amount of detail needed to create a character (specifically one that will "make it" in the society) is almost too much. The character application form almost deters me from wanting to RP at all, mostly due to all of the nit-picking on minor details. The most difficult part of the form in my opinion is trying to match everything up with the dates already pre-set in the lore. It becomes a major hassle to try to work around the dates and times already in the lore, especially if you want to make an interesting character that's not "cliche". The other major complaint with the lore is the fact that there are parts that are completely re-written, making people who have had characters approved before the rewrites completely non-compliant. (This is the reason that I've decided to not make another character until the lore rewrites settle down honestly, one of the recent rewrites makes my character non-compliant.) The final con is more of a personal dislike as opposed to a factual one, I dislike the idea of letting a lot of people have high social standings. It used to be extremely difficult to become a noble, but now it seems like quite a few people are able to do it without having much difficulty. Once again, this part is simply how I, alone, feel as opposed to how other people in the community feel.

The PvPing is varied and, at times, fun. However, I feel like it should be brought to attention that there are wasted resources being used in the PvP arenas. Not many people actually play in the arenas, and the ones that do, often end up spending a rather large amount of time waiting for an opponent. More often than not, the person spending time waiting will often leave before finding an opponent. There are many reasons that I've heard that players don't want to use the arenas. These reasons are that the arenas are too small and the PvPers prefer the faction-based combat in the main continents.

I have some solutions to quite a few of the cons that I've listed, if enough people want to hear them, then I will consider releasing the solutions on a separate thread at a later time! If I was supposed to do that here, erm... well, just let me know and I'll edit this with the solutions! Thanks for taking the time to read all of this!

Pro's: Massivecraft is a brilliant server, with lots of diverse people, who are also brilliant (sometimes, anyway..) The admins are usually fair, and are also quite nice, and usually willing to help. Oh Yes! And @Ryciera and her, whatever the heck this is:

Ryciera fit attack? Ryciera face planting into her keyboard, never to be heard of again, because the keyboard ate her face, for being so disrespectful? Who knows.. Ahem, anyway..
Cons: One does not simply state the cons of massivecraft, without being wrong.. Anyway, on a more serious note it has a few flaws, like everything does, the lag for one, is horrible, and the random, god damn restarts, that have no warning.
I don't have much lag except in market. But the random restarts are horrible.

Wait, I'm not the only one having and realizing this problem? This is a pleasant surprise.

I've been on Massive for 2 years and 6 months now and frankly, this is the best server I have ever played on.
The RP community is something that has kept me glued to this server since the day I first joined, along with the amazing builds by many of its loyal player base. The server staff (although we may disagree at times) are some of the best staff I have seen in my time on minecraft due to their dedication & quality results that they bring to massivecraft every day. Thanks to this server, my creativity in building as well as writing has been drastically improved thanks to the community of massivecraft always keeping me on edge.

The only
negatives I can think of are the occasional lag spikes, and the amount of old griefed faction bases that need to be reset to the default terrain.

@Ryciera

Pros: Improved my creativity and roleplay skills, and it's great to have fun with others and explore on.

Cons: Quests are rather all fetch quests, and roleplay in Regalia is way to strict, disallowing some interesting roleplay events. I suppose it's because of how newbies act on the server, but we do need to make more things we can do.

Pros: Has the most complex and well-written lore I've ever seen on a roleplay server.

Cons: The fact that a lot of people think that being a vampire makes them Dracula.
If people (noobs) played vampires as if they were Dracula, I'd actually be happier. It's currently 'Edward' a lot of them think they are, and I'm sure I know which I would prefer out of the two wrongs.

;-;

Pros: Well, where do I start. Its far more superior than any RPG server I ever played on. It as rich, breath taking lore. The community is friendly and helpful. Finally, Its one hell of a thrill ride.
Cons: None, except for ERP here or there.
Scary Stuff: Vice Demons, Luthien Duchamp, and Edward Cullen.

Pro: Jeff exists on it.
Con: If Jeff didn't exist on it.

Pro: Has a cool Rp experience with fabulous people on it :)
Con: All the experienced role players make me too shy to go to the tavern where lots of people are or near any staff...*hides in corner*

pros: The idea behind the server is great, better hasn't been seen
Cons: Practicly not working like it should. I don't seem to find what is wrong though.

Pros: Interesting lore, best plugins, tons of interesting people, and fairer staff than those in most servers i've played in, wonderful art community, tons of surprises
Cons: Sometimes i feel like i cant give negative feedback twords other players, Meta gamers kill my characters constantly, twerking nagas, and some bias by other role players that has made my game play here stressful... PVP conflicts involving raptum, and lastly, lag.
