Intro
To be honest, I'm writing this because I'm bored. But, I've always wondered what other players besides me have imagined what Massive could be. This is just a little idea, and I also wanted to share my ideas a little bit.
Ideas
My ideas for Massive lore are more magic types, like Sound, Astral, and a few others. Also some more metals, maybe fictional, or realistic, either is fine for better and beefier lore. More unique and distinct races, one of my previous threads semi-requested a race of a dozen demons that were recruited by Estel, blah blah blah. Maybe adding werewolves to the mix as a sort of disease, or having, say, a Regalian citizen who has done good deeds recruited by a god. More gods along with that, I'll be doing a post soon about more gods too :P. Keeping dragons around would be awesome, or even adding a system where your character, in OOC lore has to find an egg, have it hatch in their presence, tame them, so on and so forth along with a variation of abilities between each dragon sub-species. More types of monsters besides the bland undead, giant spiders, demons, vampires, and any others I don't know about. As said above, werewolves could be a good addition. Maybe some giant serpents, gryphons, wyvrens, and water creatures? In summary, just a BIG beef-up for the lore.

Less is more when it concerns the level of fantasy.

I feel like it makes it a bit more realistic with less, which adds a certain filter to the roleplay, but if you add more, there's more material to roleplay with. I'm one of the people who in most cases says, "Bigger is Better"

I'd just put back the Bruma yanar (winter based) and the Slayar yanar (moss based) and some form of golem race. Besides that, I really can't complain with the huge amount of lore we have.

If I had my way, Massive would be a Weird West world, with revolvers that shoot magic and trains powered by bound demons.

Well that's... Unique. But you know, it's fine. I thought people were going to reply with extremely massive changes to all the lore :P

Honestly the only thing I'd add would be totally unoriginal: essentially Vladimir and Zed from LoL. Hemomancy would be cool (I dunno if that's a word or if it's even spelled correctly) and an extension of shadow magic. If I remember correctly that shadow magic here is more of an ability to travel using shadows and cloak things in darkness (meh I'm probably wrong and thinking of the shadow travel that is done in Percy Jackson), honestly I don't even remember if shadow magic exists. But then again both of those would be vaguely overpowered. Honestly I like it the way it is, what little I know about it.

The thing I would change is lessen the power of Regalia, give dwarves, elves and the sort more power in their lands.

Another change would make magic more acceptable. Maybe as seen in Skyrim, it was feared and disliked. But nobles used Mages in battle and council.

I'd make an expansion to theatre (have the camera and film invented but in that classic 1940s vintage black and white style). And create a subrace of Humans which are all black and white along with their religion requiring them to wear only black and white clothes (any shade of black, grey, and white). Some of the race would have the Cockney Rhyming Slang speech (or Rabbit Slang), and they would have
invented the new theatre stuff.

I'd get rid of Regelia all together that way people would RP more at their factions and more people would be out in the world. They have a lot of factions with awesome buildings and towns that many people never play in. I know a lot of people would disagree but it is just my opinion. :)

For one, I would arrange for the Regalian Empire to have disassembled a few decades ago; the Regalian archipelago would be transformed into a collection of small Ailor states much like the Free Marches in Dragon Age. Various subcultures of the Regalisch parent culture (Approximations made from the geographical location + German/Dutch influence) will carve up the different islands. The city of Regalia would become a trading center and a converging point for the archipelago's politics. Oligarchs and councillors from different regions would collect in Regalia periodically to discuss the region's affairs in a grand council. Prominent citizens who are backed by political leaders are allowed to attend, therefore granting anyone with the ambition and competence the right to determine the realm's direction.

The Kades would be turned into the viscounts of Regalia, owning the city like a landed title. They would still remain the most powerful family in the city itself, as they are expected to lead councils and maintain the central city with competent administration. Rich and well-established citizens can earn the right to buy empty land from the Kades provided that they impress the family well enough, or convince the ruler of another city state to buy land on their behalf. This way, there are more estates and manors dotted around the island.

I'd also create more land in between the continents, conforming more to the idea of tectonic plates to determine the locations of waterways and landmasses. Wind and currents can also be approximated with real-world examples, so determining geographical conditions can be made easier. This could also aid in the formulation of different cultures, since geography is a large factor in societal development. The playable realms such as Fendarfell or New Ceardia would be placed in a further region from the 'lore continents', reinforcing the idea that these places are frontiers much like colonial America.

The magic system would explore the distinction between 'void' and 'exist', categorizing all magical schools between Tearing, Forming, or Existing magics. The concept of tearing or forming plays directly with the void; utilizing destructive magics that require a full connection to the void (Hex magic, for example) weakens the barriers between the existential plane and the void, while 'forming' magics (Celestial-type magics such as light magic) strengthens the barrier. 'Existing' magic (Elemental magic, such as wind or fire or unaffilated magic such as string or lyre) would draw from the primal energies from the world and therefore do not affect the separation between the void.
When the void starts seeping into the world through the over-usage of tearing magic, demons and other such entities start to appear and manifest their surroundings by possession. A thick fog would appear in severe cases, turning locations into miniature medieval Silent Hill-esque locations. This way, there's a system to punish mages who lack restraint all the while creating a more direct possession system with demons.

That's both extensive and minor in the same sense... Jeez, some people these days don't cease to amaze me. I like the idea of categorizing magic in that way, with minor punishments in all forms. And, as said before, I totally agree that Regalia should have their power watered down a bit. That way roleplay happens in places other than the Great City.

I would suggest quoting the person you're replying to, it lets them know that it's them you're talking to.

well i joined this server for one reason and one reason only. Factions. This is by far the best factions server i have seen ever. I like the way factions cant be too close to each other. I like the no griefing rules as well as the faction tax. All of this combined makes a feeling of a clean factions server that has options for other people. Yea the RP is cool but personally, i find that boring and a little stupid. Is the server perfect? No but its pretty damn close. Does it have stuff i dont like/agree with. Yes but it is well suited to meet the needs and almost all of the wants for 99% of the people on minecraft. I have much factions experience as i have played since 1.4 and have seen a lot of faction servers, but none have had the level of epicness massivecraft has and still has. I may have been on this server of only 2 months but it has grown to be my favorite server. 9.99999/10 Good work guys.

I'd change it so that magic was either more understood in its effects and lesser used, (ie- because the overuse of it opens rifts and thus risks the destruction of Aloria) or that it was pulled from another source.

Perhaps a line between 'good' and 'bad' magic, with good being taken from the Exist and bad from the Void. That way anyone could use positive magic with little overall effect on Aloria, but the use of dark magic risked opening the way for voidlings.

Right now I'm very confused about my characters' stance on Magic, because I'd like her to be able to use evergrowth or healing, but at the same time she understands magic and does not want to endanger Aloria.

This, basically.

Well, I was kind of asking about the lore, and how you could change anything, not if you agreed with the factions. But I do admire the factions system that Massive has set up, and wish it to stay.

How about she uses the magic in only dire circumstances? Say, she could use healing magic only if the patient is severely hurt, or evergrowth if she needs to escape from danger. My character simply uses his magic with no worry, seeing as Drowda is danger enough to destroy Aloria if Regalia doesn't start trying to fix it.

I believe there is a lack of Elven structures (Besides in Teled Methen) Perhaps the way to move forwards from Regalia would be to create some sort of Elven city accessible to roleplayers of even the most basic sorts, sometimes even have outstanding structures in survival worlds where players can find a safe haven for a night whilst traveling.

I do like the theme of Regalia but one of the things I feel is missing would be a more 'dark' essence to the build, if we are to roleplay in the shadow of Qadir and such like that; then we must make the city look depressing and hard-hitting, also maybe a darker race to go with the city.

I myself have always wondered about a race of Golem-like creatures, (This would be rather smart with mpm) the concept is there and the potential, such classifications such as a rare Ice Giant could be found in Ceardia.

Another good example for a Golem-like creature would be perhaps a stone-type monster from Teled Methen, it could be seen as a vine-covered beast; very useful in war and even then Regalia could go to war or on the other hand they could have something against Qadir, possibly the Qadir could have enslaved them at one point and only now they would fight back?

My friend The_Golem has created a thread to propose the idea of a Golem creature. They were created by the Seraph as kind of a very early computer analog system to let them think. They're stone guardians who protected the Seraph no matter what, except if one attacked them. There's maybe 40-50 left from what I remember from The_Golem's post? But, that idea might actually become valid lore Infamous, I'm hoping it will be too.
