I'm not quite sure how recently this was added, and I don't know where to talk about it but I popped back into the Regalian lawbook to check up on something, but the whole format is different! Which is actually pretty nice for the most part, since the old laws were kind of sparse. However, now there's the whole 'religious law' thing being enacted and how many people've noticed the 'Holy Marriage' addition that criminalizes non-heterosexuality? When did THAT become a thing? It feels totally out of left field considering the old law regarding sexuality was just 'don't have sex without the consent of both of your families patriarchs.' Was this retroactively written into the lore, or is it new because of some change in the government structure? Either way it's totally bonkers to me to add this kind of thing to a relaxed fantasy world environment, on a meta level, when there were no prior laws regarding sexuality in that way.

That's been a law since the 27th of May, so about 67 days. The government, meaning the IC members and people, put that law in place a while back. I'm gay and I don't see a problem with it. It's a realistic enforcement of the Medieval narrow minded religious zealous Empire.

Then I'll raise you: Why does it necessarily have to be that painfully gritty and 'realistic'. If it's entirely necessary to the way this location us run, why is it the only option we've got. Why can't I go somewhere else in-universe, with the same mods/treatment regarding ability to RP in a city? Regalia just keeps getting more mass. It's tripled in size since I started keeping track.

I'd actually argue that it the setting is not gritty nor representative of a conservative medieval society. The setting includes quite a few races cultures and religions with different views of sex, gender roles marriage some of which would be liberal by today's standards.
Here are some quotes from the wiki:

"... Imperial culture seems to be generally more acceptant, or at least silently condoning to the existence of same-sex couples..."
"...The Nelfin have no distinction between men and women based on equality..."
"...Same-sex relations among Orcs are not very common, but they do occur..."
"Because the religion contains two same-sex unions, it is often said that Old Gods worshippers are more free thinking than other religions"

Staff builds in places where roleplayers play. It happens to be that most roleplayers play in Regalia so world staff and lore staff keep focusing in Regalia. Also, roleplay depends on player concentration, it is in the interest of staff to promote roleplay and concentrate players in one city.

Going largely off memory because I'm too lazy to boot my PC and tab swapping is annoying.

There's also:
  • The ithanians
  • Shendar
  • Partially cielothar because they're too much of hippies to give a...
  • Yanar
  • Rashaq in technicality
  • Saivalthar
  • Literally just void worship in general.
Further more it's a relatively new law by the current((?) We've had like two to three in a year), who's character, I know, completely supports it, unless it has been reworked since being wiped from record, as well as the state and dominant religion in the area, in short, read the kind of useless lore things to understand it.

Nothing said you couldn't continue to role play as a homosexual character it simply states you can't marry or be one - in a sense. I feel like this law really opens up a lot of really good RP drama moments regarding the status of a person's sexuality, and it's really an accurate prediction of what a medieval theocratic-esque government would do.

Laws don't apply to the slums, Sewers, Countryside, privacy of your (some situations), but it's not like a Guard is high tailing you around everywhere. All of my characters (bar a few I guess) are homosexual and they've never ran into any issues since they aren't going to flaunt their degeneracy in public. The law is essentially hollow, but prevents two men from making out in the tavern or holding hands in the street. How often does that even happen to straight couples? everyone does it in the comfort of their homes or in the privacy of the park where areas are secluded enough for no-one to notice.

The reality is also that the laws probably only apply to nobility 80% of the time because they have to watch their toes, while Commoners (unless for example attacking someone) can usually get away with minor things or even just an OOC comment asking for people not to interfere with personal roleplay.

The law is there to be angry about, and drive an anti-clergy narrative. Not to punish gays.

As long as you aren't making out with someone the same gender as you in the park you should be fine.

Really signs of affection in general (straight, gay, or married) are looked down on if they're in public lol

Unless your common sense has been deformed by looking at too many memes, one way to think about Aloria is to compare it to Earth. Try to look for similarities in how people behave, think, and act. The biggest similarity between the two planets is races. It appears to me that the different races in Aloria reflect upon humans located in different areas on Earth. Ailor would be British, Elves would be Spanish, gays are tolerated more on the internet than in public, etc.

This seems like the rant of an SJW. Sorry if I came off as rude but that's how I see this. I'm gay myself and don't have any problems with how the laws are. The laws have to fit the ideals of the societal norms for regalia and it's lore. Of course it's gonna seem homophobic and sexist, that's how a medieval society is.
