Spoiler: expandshun ◆ Yasuke has a very youthful and feminine facial structure with a small beauty spot by his left eye. He got the good genes, due to the noble blood that runs through his veins. He could easily pass himself off as a woman, while at the same time is very clearly a male. Unfortunately, though, his lifestyle didn’t serve his appearance all that well. His nose has a small crook in the bridge as a result from breaking his nose a good amount of times throughout his life. His eyes also have noticeable bags and dark circles under them. His hair comes down to his knees, due to never cutting it, though he wears it tied up in a loose ponytail that reaches his lower back, with bangs that fall past his chin. His hair is quite soft, and has a few grey strands running through it, due to stress. His face is covered in scars, the most notable of which being two that run along his left cheek and jaw, one that cuts through his nose and crosses over his left cheekbone, and a scar through his right eye, the eyelids of which having been sealed shut after they eye itself was removed. ◆ His body has naturally slim hips and somewhat broad shoulders, and coupled with his athletic build and how he wears his robe (left baggy and open around the torso, and tied tightly around his hips with a rope belt), it makes him appear much more buff and V shaped than he actually is. He has a developing eight pack, relatively slim forearms, somewhat long and cracked fingernails, thick thighs for kneeing and kicking, calloused feet, and feminine hands. Despite his age, he has quite a few nasty scars on his body, too many to count. Though the most notable are a long jagged scar across his chest, An impalement scar on his right forearm, 10 lashing scars shredding his back, a slash across his throat, and an I branded into the back of his neck. ◆ Despite being a chi, he has a common Regalian accent, and due to his unmannered upbringing, he often slurs his words and mumbles, making it difficult to understand him at times. Personality and Abilities Choose your Character Alignment Neutral Good - A neutral good character typically acts altruistically, without regard for or against lawful precepts such as rules or tradition. A neutral good character has no problems with cooperating with lawful officials, but does not feel beholden to them. In the event that doing the right thing requires the bending or breaking of rules, they do not suffer the same inner conflict that a lawful good character would. Yasuke's moral alignment has changed over the years. When he was younger, he used his sister's lessons about self preservation to justify his selfishness, so much so that he genuinely believed he was in the right.. On top of that, thanks to some traumas he faced, he forced himself to do things he wouldn't've usually done to try and force himself to become the unfeeling rat man he wanted to be. But now he's different. The things he does are still morally questionable, but his intentions are much less malicious. He doesn't like seeing people that he deems as assholes getting away with being assholes, and will reluctantly go out of his way to assist people in need and complain the whole time. He still sees killing as a necessary evil, and only takes pleasure in it when whoever he's fighting is alright with death, like he is. Choose your Character Personality Type Logistician - ISTJ-T Yasuke's a stupid motherfucker when it comes to book smarts. He's pretty good at math, for an illiterate, neglected, orphaned street rat kid who's suffered from poverty most of his life (which isnt all that good btw), but other than that, he's not that smart. He has street smarts, though. He's good at bullshitting his way through conversations on topics he knows nothing about, he's not very good at talking but still knows which words to use to manipulate people into giving him what he wants, and he has knowledge on hunting and surviving and fighting using tactics he made up on his own from trial and error. When his mother and father neglected him during his time at the brothel in the first six years of his life, he spent a lot of his time alone, thinking and experiencing nature, and occasionally listening in on conversations. He didn't have a lot to do, so he found himself doing this often. He thought deeply about everything he experienced. The small fish and bugs he caught in nearby streams were alive, but didn't seem like it compared to other living things he'd seen before. He also spent a lot of time thinking about his own life and the emotions he felt. Then he moved to the sewers with a woman with strong philosophical views which she imposed on him. That, coupled with the horrible things he experienced down there, leads him to spending a lot of his free time by himself, simply thinking about life and the path he took to get where he is now. He never comes to any meaningful conclusion or feel enlightened by these thoughts. He just enjoys thinking. Choose your Character's Religion Unionism - 0/10 Due to his sister's views and the life he lived in general, he's more of an atheist than anything. He skimmed the creeds to avoid getting in trouble with the inquisition when he was younger, but he doesn't really believe in them. He thinks religion is a way to justify unfair discrimination, and doesn't think there's any deity worth worth worshiping. Although, he knows how important religion can be for other people, and so he respects them and their beliefs and does his best not to take any god's name in vein. Although, he doesn't appreciate people bringing foreign god's into the city and being proud of them. Not because he's xenophobic (but he is), he just thinks it's incredibly stupid to get harmed over something as dumb as religion, and it just genuinely makes him feel sad to see it happen. Spoiler: relationships ◆ Mother - mother His mother was a young chi girl who moved to Regalia from Daexi with her lover when she was sixteen. The two met and fell in love with one another, though she came from a relatively wealthy family who planned to marry her off to someone else, and he was a mostly blinded peasant. Her parents obviously didn’t agree with their relationship and so decided to run away together. They quickly realized this was a mistake. Neither were great at common, and they arrived in the city with very little money. She met another older chi man who offered her help. He was quite wealthy, and said he’d give her a large amount of money if she’d be willing to work at his brothel to pay it off. She didn’t like the idea of selling her body, but with her lover being unable to work, really, she reluctantly took the offer. She tried her best to hide it from her lover, though after a few months, he eventually found out and left her. She was absolutely devastated, but the brothel owner did not let her leave, as she had still not paid off her debt. She became depressed and careless, and accidentally had a child with the owner when she was seventeen. The child was allowed to live in the brothel as long as he stayed out of people's way, as he wasn’t the only child the owner had with the women he owned. She did her best to care and be motherly towards the boy, but she couldn’t help but feel unexplainable resentment towards him. She didn’t name him, nor did she spend a lot of time with him, but when one of her coworkers got sick and took the boy away in an attempt to give him a better life, she immediately regretted how she treated him, knowing that she would likely never have another child again. She broke down and refused to work, and after just a couple months of the owner beating and threatening her, she drowned herself in the ocean. She was twenty three when she died. He rarely let them leave. He was also quite a womanizer, fathering children with a lot of the women that worked for him. He abused and threatened the Sihai woman that refused to work for him after her son left. After she killed herself, one of her regulars did a bit of digging and discovered why. He met the brothel owner at the tavern, got him drunk, lured him to the sewers, and him and a group of his friends proceeded to beat him nearly to death, breaking both his knees and blinding him with glass. Payment for driving the chi woman to suicide. He now lives as a crippled beggar. Due to this, he sees her as the most reliable friend he has. He's proud of where she is now, and wishes he'd've stayed with her. He thinks that maybe if he went to her for help rather than running away when he was younger, his life would've turned out better. His father owned a small brothel on the outskirts of the city while his mother was one of the prostitutes who worked for him. They didn’t have much of a relationship beyond just knowing each other, and they rarely spoke to each other both before and after their son’s conception and birth. Yasuke wasn’t planned and wasn’t particularly wanted, but his mother reluctantly kept him around. She was quite absent, though, letting him do and go whatever and wherever he wanted. No one really gave him an actual name. Just cruel nicknames that he was too young to really understand at the time. An Altalar woman who worked at the brothel to pay a debt to the owner contracted syphilis. She was the one who was most involved in raising the unnamed boy and grew quite fond of him. She had an incurable disease, a neglected child, and a big debt to pay off. So one night, she decided to just take the boy and flee to the sewers to avoid the debt and to hopefully raise the child to be strong. She also finally gave him a name. ❖Childhood (years 6 to 10)❖ The woman he called his sister was severely mentally damaged from her previously mercenary life. Because of this, she developed a pretty bleak and self centered view on life that she imposed on the boy she did her best to raise, believing that her way of thinking was superior to everyone else's. She taught him that honor is for fools and he should only do what serves him and not his image. She taught him religion is for fools, especially for people in their position, as praying doesn’t solve your problems. She taught him that if he was going to risk his life for something or someone, make sure his death makes a difference. Otherwise, he shouldn’t get involved. She taught him that self preservation is a top priority and that he shouldn’t feel guilty for what they did to fools who gambled their lives away. She also taught him how to hunt with rocks and knives, how to fish with a spear, how to make rope from grass, how to skin animals, and various other helpful skills. They often worked many jobs at once to make money, using the money to buy food and medicine for her illness. Though sometimes, they didn’t make enough to get both, so when that happened they just bought medicine and went hungry. When he was ten, Yasuke and his sister got hired by a Slizzar to clear out some giant rats in a warehouse he had recently bought. They managed to complete the job, but his sister had gotten bit by one of the rats, and died from infection a few days later. Yasuke now had to fend for himself for the first time ever. ❖Teen Years (10 to current age)❖ Yasuke was completely on his own now, and he wanted to keep it that way. He didn’t want his sister to have essentially wasted her life teaching him how to survive only to go back to relying on others to get by once she was gone. And the following years (and current year) are what he considers to be the best years of his life, as he developed more skills, and began meeting quite a lot of people. Not much has really changed, other than his sister being dead. He works, gets into petty fights, hangs out with his friends, and repeat. He’d like to join the military or guard force sometime when he’s older, but for now, he’s happy and content. Spoiler: life story but longer The brothel he spent the first six years of his life in was a large establishment on the outskirts of the city, meant for passing soldiers and mercenaries, and provided men and women of just about every race. His time in the brothel was very traumatic for him. His mother didn’t want him, and his father didn’t care enough to really know about him. When he was a baby, she often talked to him about her problems and complicated feelings towards him. She didn’t want a child, and definitely didn’t want a child with the man she had one with, and definitely definitely didn’t want a child this young. But she couldn’t bring herself to get rid of him. All these talks left the boy with a deep sadness, and he did his best to stay out of his mother’s way as he grew older. The only thing she did for him was teach him Wa’an and common. Growing up, he had a lot of trouble grasping and speaking Wa’an, but picked up on common quite easily. Which is ironic, as now that he’s older, he speaks very elegantly in Wa’an and sounds like a country hick when speaking common. When he cried as a baby and refused to eat, his mother simply locked him in a closet until he quieted down. When he was a toddler, he was deathly afraid of thunder, though he had no one to comfort him when storms happened. So he simply hid and sobbed. It may seem silly, but as a child, this really scarred him. He was never given a proper name, Everyone either called him ‘boy’, or Shutainu, a combination of sutore, which roughly means ‘lost’ or ‘abandoned’ child, and norainu, which meant stray dog. He interacted with his father for the first time when he was four. His father was drunk and thought Shutainu was a random kid that had wandered into his brothel. Shutainu naturally said some sassy shit that set his father off, who proceeded to pick the boy up and toss him down some stairs, telling him to not come back. The next morning, an Altalar who he would later claim to be his sister found the boy sleeping outside as he thought he was truly not allowed back inside. She brought him back to his mother, telling him to stay out of people’s way. As he got a bit older, his mother grew more and more depressed, and the boy could tell. He was bothering one of the courtesans, who offhandedly suggested that he should bring his mothers gifts or something, in hopes that the boy would leave her alone. And it worked. So, he took it upon himself to try and cheer his mother up, and win her love. At first he just brought her cool rocks and sticks and leaves he found outside, as he spent most of his time wandering the countryside and visiting village outskirts that were near the brothel. But these did not work. So he upgraded to bringing her flowers he found in nearby fields, and even did ‘work’ (such as just washing their clothes or bringing them alcohol) for the courtesans that lived in the brothel in exchange for a couple coins, where he then hitched a ride on his father’s carriage when he was traveling into the city to buy some things. He bought flowers from a shop, which were pretty damn cheap and low quality, but to him, they were extremely fancy. But even they didn’t get much of a reaction from his mother, other than feigned appreciation that he saw right through. He tried to catch crawfish and other small animals and fish from a nearby stream for her to eat, but nothing ever worked. When he was six, one night, the Altalar woman he came to consider his older sister woke him up and asked if he wanted to come with her to the city. Not knowing that he was never coming back, and enjoying his previous experiences in the city, he agreed happily and left with her. She took him to the sewers and gave him a faded orange haori and a pale burlap scarf, tearing the sleeves off the haori just enough so he could use his hands, as she knew he’d grow into it, which he did, as he still wears it to this day. She also did what his parent’s should’ve done, and gave him a name. Yasuke. The name and haori belonged to a Songaskia she knew and viewed as a brother. Both her and the Songaskia were raised together by Sihai as warriors, and he was given the name Yqy'ha'ksai, which was a combination of words that roughly translated to darkened, on account of his skin, and fearsome, on account of his ferocity duh. The young boy shared a lot of traits with the Songaskia. They were both neglected by their caretakers, both strong willed, and both very kind despite their poor circumstances, which could’ve easily left them mean and bitter. Though the Songaskia was devoted to his religion and honor, and ended up having his arms cleaved off in battle because of it, and died a few years later from the stress and trauma and alcoholism this event caused. The Altalar didn’t want this for the chi boy she was now raising. She did her best to teach him to stay away from religion and talk of honor, and she did a pretty good job at it. The Altalar offered to cut Yasuke’s hair, as it had grown quite long, but he was (still is) stupid, and thought that having your hair cut would hurt, so he refused. She tried to tell him it didn’t, but he was stubborn and was adamant that it hurt, and that he shall grow his hair out. After a while, he discovered that having your hair cut did in fact not hurt, though he loved having long hair, so he still refused to cut it. Yasuke accepted that he was never returning home pretty quickly, and adapted to his new life. He was scared, as he’d heard stories of what went down in the sewers, but in a way, he was also kind of excited. He had accepted that his mother just didn’t love him, but a small part of him hoped that life in the sewers would harden him and make him strong and turn him into a man that anyone would be proud to claim as their son. He wanted to eventually leave when he was older and return to his mother. But as he grew older, the hardships he faced, and his quickly maturing mind caused him to forget these hopes. His sister, the Altalar, owed a debt to Yasuke’s father, the man who owned the brothel she worked in. But her time there made her ill, and she decided to take Yasuke and flee. She took him to the sewers and slums of Old Town where her debt couldn’t follow her. Her sickness wasn’t curable, but it could be suppressed with medicine. They had to make enough money to afford both food and medicine, and sometimes, they couldn’t manage. They always prioritized the medicine over food, as they both knew how long someone could go without eating, and they could always find other ways of acquiring food. She taught Yasuke how to sneak up and catch birds and rats, how to accurately throw rocks and knives if they had any to kill small animals, and how to fish with a spear. On top of this, she taught him about special herbs that could help him, how to make rope from grass, how to tie many different knots, showed him certain trees that he could eat if he ever needed to, where to find bugs if he had no other food source available, and so on. They spent a lot of time moving around, staying in the city for a few days, then in the mountains for a few days, etc. She taught Yasuke how to skin and track, and to only kill animals when he had to (except fish because they dont have souls). She taught him the basics of sewing and stitching, a few different fire starting methods, and special locations to strike on a person if he ever got in a fight. Most notably the wrist, neck, and femoral artery. She also taught him how to painlessly kill himself if he ever decided that life was too much and wanted to end it, though she requested that he never did it while she was alive. When Yasuke was eight, he had his first encounter with a bully. His sister was off in the city working, while he was along the river, fishing. He had caught quite a few fish and was excited to return with them to impress his sister when an orphaned Ailor boy, about his age or a little younger, with a baton approached Yasuke. He demanded all the fish he had caught, and Yasuke refused, so he smacked Yasuke in the face with his baton breaking his nose. The Ailor boy continued to harass Yasuke like this for the next few weeks, waiting for Yasuke to get some food or money and stealing it from him. His sister decided this would be a great time to teach him the importance of self preservation. She told him the next time he tried to harm Yasuke, that Yasuke should kill him. He’d never killed a person before, though he has seen people die. He thought killing was bad, but she taught him that Yasuke should value his own life above those that cause him trouble. If someone attacks him, he shouldn’t feel bad for killing them. They made a choice to gamble their life away, and going out of your way to just incapacitate someone like that isn’t worth the risk or effort. Yasuke trusted and loved his sister, so he took everything she said as fact. A few days later, the boy reappeared to steal a fat squirrel Yasuke had caught and was planning on selling. They fought, and it ended with Yasuke drowning the poor child. He felt no guilt, though it did affect him. When he was nine, he witnessed a man hang himself. He only stuck around to watch because he wanted the rope, which he still has. Yasuke snuck into bars and whore houses, claiming to be the son of one of the workers so he would be let in. He spent the small amount of time he had (before someone realized he wasn’t anyone's son and just a rat) gambling and buying food on whoever he claimed to be the child of’s tab. The gambling helped him learn how to count, and overall, these experiences taught him the importance and usefulness of deception. Eventually, one establishment caught him and they beat the shit out of him, and spread the word about a lying chi rat, so he stopped doing this less often. His sister also gave him his tattoo, and pierced his ear at his request. One winter night, him and his sister were starving and came across a man near death in the slums. His sister put the man out of his misery, harvested some meat from his corpse, and cooked it up for them. This wasn’t the last time Yasuke ate human flesh, though it was the last time he didn’t do it of his own volition. When Yasuke as ten, him and his sister had acquired quite a bit of money, and decided to head into the market. He was still wearing the old orange haori his sister gave to him four years ago, but he was starting to grow into it properly and it covered him less and less, so she bought him new clothes. They met a man that robbed goods from the dead and sold them for cheap. They bought Yasuke a black yukata with a golden flower design that he still wears to this day. He also got an iron hat, which also had a golden flower insignia on the front, chain sleeves with iron strips going along the forearms and biceps, and a shortened wooden staff/sword. Though at the time, it was like a regular sized staff compared to his small body. The merchant claimed that he got the robes and gear from a dishonored Sihai warrior who resided in the sewers, waiting to meet someone who could cut him down. It seems he had met his match. On their way back to their temporary home, they were jumped by a couple of desperate robbers. One of them grabbed Yasuke and put him in a headlock while the other fought with his sister. The man that held Yasuke didn’t want to hurt him too badly, and underestimated him. Due to this, Yasuke managed to wiggle his head down slightly and chomp down on the mans wrist, digging his teeth in, and ripping a chunk of flesh out. The man fell back and went limp, either from the shock of having a chunk of his wrist torn out, or from the fact he was bleeding very heavily. Yasuke counts this as his second kill, and it’s the one he’s most proud of. He often boasts about killing a full grown man when he was just ten, though in reality, it was a starving desperate man who had no intention of actually harming them very badly. They just wanted their stuff. A few months after that incident, Yasuke and his sister met a Slizzar who had recently bought a warehouse for cheap, only to find out why it was so cheap. It was infested with giant sewer rats. The Slizzar hired them to clear it out, and so they did. They thought they were done, when a smaller one sprung out from behind a box, biting into his sister’s arm. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t get better from this. She got very ill, her arm began rotting away from infection, and she pretty much went brain dead. Her last words to Yasuke were an emotional jumbled mess about how he couldn’t survive without her. His sister taught him to never let his death be in vain. If he was going to die, then his death should make a difference. So, rather than giving up and succumbing to the next hardship he faced, he pushed on. He didn’t want his sister to have given her life for him, only to die the moment she was gone. When he was eleven, he attended a party in the tavern, and ended up getting drunk with a noble woman, who took her to his house. They ate food and he learned how to play the harp. When he was twelve, he found and old fisherman who owned a dingy, just outside the city. Yasuke waited til he returned home to a small shack on the river, and stole it. He sailed around the shore, offering people rides into the city in exchange for coin or food. Unfortunately, this only lasted about a month, as the fisherman had hired people to find his boat. And they did. And Yasuke got his ass kicked. So he returned to the city to find a new job. Around this time, Songaskia invaded the city. Yasuke decided to appease his new overlords and aided them in catching slaves in exchange for food. When Yasuke was thirteen, a few month after the Songaskia had left, he met an older man who offered Yasuke a place to stay. He fed him and treated him well, and reminded him of his dead sister. But the man assaulted Yasuke one day and he fled to the sewers. He had already had unpleasant encounters with men before (though not to this extent), and typically just didn’t get along with them, but this solidified it. Yasuke just doesn’t trust or like men. He also met a group of racist war veterans outside the city who were tracking a small group of Altalar. They offered Yasuke money (it wasn’t a lot, but they figured to a kid it’d seem like a fortune) to burn the elves with fire bottles, which they taught him how to make. He said yes, stayed at their camp, waited til they fell asleep, stole all their money and fire bottles, warned the Altalar of their plan, and headed into the city to sell the bottles off. When he was fourteen, he stole donation money from the cathedral, and threw an old gladius he found at the back of a man robbing a woman, which he claims to be his third kill. Though he doesn’t actually know if he died or not. He also robbed the woman, as she showed no appreciation for him saving her. Towards the end of the year, he assaulted an old man and stole his shovel, and used the shovel to dig up graves and take the dead’s valuables. This gave him a slight eye for appraisal. After nearly half a year of doing this, he eventually got caught and had the shit beaten out of him. He stopped doing it after that. When he was fifteen, he stumbled across a pair of men fighting, and a loaded crossbow on the ground next to them. Naturally, he ran by, snatching the crossbow up.A few days ago, he was wandering down a street in the slums, late a night, him being the only person around. Him and some other man, dressed up in a thick brown cloak. They were walking towards each other, down a narrow street, late at night. The man showed no signs of aggression towards the Sihai, but that didn’t stop him. Yasuke, full of fear, lifted the crossbow and shot him right in the chest. The man dropped without a sound. This was Yasuke’s fourth kill, and one he feels quite bad about. A few weeks after this incident, Yasuke was struck with a horrible fever that left him barely able to move. A mute Ithanian girl who studied medicine, a few years older than him as well, came across him, brought him to her home, and nursed him back to health. Yasuke stayed with her for a few months, and despite her disability, they felt a strong connection with each other and she ended up being his first kiss. But disaster struck, and she ended up catching the plague and dying, leaving Yasuke alone once again. He also antagonized old black out drunk war veterans until they were angry enough to spar him for money. He usually won these fights, as he made sure to wear them down before the fight. He’s grown out of this method, though. He also tried his hand at a toll bridge, but that didn’t really work out. When he was sixteen (two months into me playing him), he’d just gone temporarily blind and got a new sword. He was assaulted by a yanar guy who dressed like a woman. Yasuke, wanting to test out his new sword, cut the man’s hand off, then drove his sword through his neck. This is his top most badass kill he’s done (personally ranked by him), as he was blind when he did it. Though when he tells people about it, he claims that the yanar pulled a knife on him first to make it seem justified. In reality, though, the yanar just swing his fists at him, and Yasuke wanted to use his sword before he inevitably loses it.
